No Better Time Than NOW To Help Business Owners

Ya gotta admit, business owners need some help!

No matter what the media says, the economy is sluggish. And business owners are hurting right and left.

Anybody who has been in the internet marketing game for long, knows a lot of things that can help business owners online and offline. But I am not just talking offline business owners... Even the internet marketers are doing things they haven't done before.

The bottom line for any business is to reduce acquisition costs, increase profits, and stop the bleeding.

Now is the time to march in like a white knight and help a few businesses!

Are you keeping busy?

Funny that you say that. When I first came to WF, half of the things people said on here seemed foreign and I already had experience building, launching and promoting different types of websites. Now that I am half way up to speed, I could only image how Greek all of this would sound to someone with no online experience.

    Excellent....

Sometimes we confuse the ends with the means....

I forget that my primary purpose is to help others. I want to provide the best service while increasing the clients ROI. My main goal is to get the client the MAXIMUM ROI possible. Yet I jump on the forums and I find everyone trying to get new clients this... get new clients that....

Seemingly more focused on the financial aspect of the marketing game. I prefer to focus on what we are really here to do. Help the suffering business owner get the maximum return on his marketing dollar.

    Period.

The financial gains we make are a by product of helping others.

    Enough said....

Agreed, I have been marketing to Offline/Retail Businesses since April 2008. The hardest part is educating the business owner, they are used to direct mail and direct response marketing.
We do create some of that for them using lead capture pages but much of the SEO and building Social Media accounts takes time.

This is a great example of speaking the language of the prospect.

That is indeed what potential clients care about - not about SEO, Google Places or any of your other techniques.

Funny, but WHY you do this???! I mean, OK, we are hired to do stuff for them and get paid... WHY train them to do it by themselves? Am I miss something here?

An interesting thing about teaching business owners... Even when I teach them, they STILL want me to do things for them!

My job is to develop systems for them, get paid for my services and get a percentage of the growth. If I have done my job correctly, then I have a far better payday than just providing a webpage or SEO services.

Agree completely here! I always explain things in detail to clients and offer to "train" them a bit. None are ever interested, but all appreciate the transparency I provide.

If a customer does not understand the issues they will always minimize the transaction. Teach them enough to comfortably move forward and you are laying the foundation for a long term relationship.

The reality is that they don't want to do the work themselves, they just need to know that you really know what you're talking about.

You know even though I offer to teach my
clients what I am doing so that they can do
it themselves, they are simply not interested.

They like the idea of having a reliable person
to do all the work. It's one less headache.
It's one less thing they have to think about.

And it works. I let them know that if they
want to learn or have an employee they want
me to teach, I am willing to do it.

But, I haven't lost a client yet. They prefer
my service and the attention they get from
      me personally.

    You said it!

My clients want to see results and feel comfortable with me giving it to them without them having to do anything but pay me.

    It works for all.

Those of us who are mostly offline people, I own an insurance agency, actually like being offline biz owners. When someone comes to us w/an original idea we are open and even willing to pay.

The problem I see is the number of people who come to us with the same old worn out ideas and who also don't understand our business but want big bucks. Doesn't anyone take the time to learn and present a twist or two on an old idea or even have something new to show us?

BTW, for anyone wanting to sell their wares to insurance agents, be advised the companies we write for have tons of free marketing help available to us. All we have to do is grab it and run.

I tell you this because you may be thinking of going after a particular niche. You may wish to research their companies to see how much marketing help they provide their vendors/agents.

    Just my 2¢.

I'd agree Millard, mainstreet needs help more than ever. In the past, they were accustomed to an economy that dipped for a while and then rebounded strongly. That has not been the case this go'round. Reality is most small and mid-size businesses are either hurting badly or worried they may see a big drop-off in sales.

As was mentioned, if you can talk their language and relate to THEIR problem, NOT YOUR need for income, they are more responsive than ever - at least that's what I'm finding. ...and the first of the year almost all businesses set goals and expect to spend money.

    Brucerby,

One of the things that have helped me more than anything is to take an interest in what the business owner is doing.

Frankly, most business owners have been waiting for the bounce and it hasn't happened.

Typically, business owners expect a downturn from time to time and don't really do anything different. It is not until things get REALLY rough that the business owner starts to do something.... then after the hard work they grow their business... a little bit.... BUT, because they let things slide(That is they didn't do anything different) for such a long time, their business only gets to a point that is BELOW where they were before because of the continual slide downward.

I work on talking with business owners who are STILL making it and NOT on a downward spiral... of course, when a business owner is desperate, you can close them... but rough waters are ahead.

The time RIGHT NOW, is when you should redouble your efforts to go after new business... there is hope with a new year.

      Hi Millard

The unfortunate thing is the "bounce" may even go in the opposite direction and cause grief to more small businesses.

We need to help as many as we can to "stay in business" so that when the good times come they will be ahead of the pack.

      Regards

Whatever the economy its always a great time to help people. Regarding this current economy all thats happened is its different from the one we had 2/3 years ago. What made money before perhaps does not now. The economy is great we just need to be in the right market.

    Bronke13,

    Yep.

Once you can help an owner "Stay Afloat" more often than not, you wind up getting more business from them in the long run.

Again, it is a matter of taking a look at the business owner's interests and helping them.

You'll get back more than you can handle... in spades.

      Hi Millard

The other thing that seems to happen a lot is that they "tell other people" about you.

Thats when it gets really cool.

We chatted for a bit and closed a nice contract.

It's nice when people chase you.

January is often a good month to talk to new business owners too (every month is a good month of course).

Many businesses have had an injection of cash over Christmas but mid to late January business can start falling off.

So they have some money but they can also see business slowing...a good combination if you're offering ideas to help them make more sales and profits at an economical starting price.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

I know that it has been busier for me during the last five months than the whole year... and I like to work!
