Is offering e-mail marketing/list management to offline businesses only good for these types?

Hello,

A quick question for those with some experience here...

I've heard previously that some folks offer e-mail marketing and list management to offline clients.

What I'm curious about, is if this sort of thing can only really be "pitched" (for lack of a better word) to those who offer frequent sales/specials.

For example, lawyers don't really have such a thing. And in order for any e-mails they send to be of any value, I would assume the recipient would have to have some sort of legal trouble at the time.

So, would it even be possible to offer this to them?

If so, how would you position it?

If not, has anyone had any particular success with a different type of business?

Much appreciated. I look forward to your replies.

Regards,
Mike

I am indeed offering this to my local area clients.

I offer this service to local businesses which has sometime to do with sales. Like those who are selling electrical appliances, watches, etc.

In your example, you can use this to attract lawyer who is practically doing more on those things like hire purchase, conveyancing, etc. Those lawyer need more referrals in my opinion (at least that's how it works in my local area).

The key point to tell them about, is the "customer retention" thing. In IM, we call that building a list, in the offline world, I tend to call that as "customer retention" method, or a tool to build rapport relationship with their customers.

If the lawyer is specialized in any niches, such as the conveyancing niche, or realty niche, you can always use the point like, building a prospective list of customers by giving out FREE quality content about the laws in the realty niche. or something like that.

    Hope that helps

Just about all offline businesses can benefit from this service.

    Lets use your lawyer example.

Bob is in some legal trouble so he seeks out a lawyer (Lets assume your lawyer client is on page 1 of google for their term or are listed in yellow pages with their competitors etc) We are assuming here as for the purposes of this post it does not matter how Bob finds your clients site.

So he types into Google or Yellow Pages 'Lawyer in City' and he reaches your clients site. Has a browse and leaves to have a look at the other lawyers site etc etc. He might only be researching just now and not ready to make a call to any lawyer.

However, if on your clients site there is an effective opt in box that offers a free report on something like '10 things to avoid when choosing your lawyer' or '7 vital questions you must ask your lawyer before hiring him' or anything else if the lawyer is a specialist in the area.

Bob can now be followed up on in a series of emails over a week. Or maybe he was ready to make the call to a lawyer today and your cients report just built up credibility in his eyes. What are the chances now of Bob becoming your clients client? Higher than before?

Hope that gives you some food for thought
