Ok, not sure if this belongs here, but if some of us are going to build fanpages for businesses, we might need to know some secrets.

so here is the question.

Once you have the page built for the customer, is there any real good way to promote the fanpage? I would like to know if you can just keep posting info on the new fanpage, and then possibly friends of friends who already like the page might become interested and visit the page.

I looked into the facebook ads, and it looks like you can really geo target people. You can set the clicks as .01 or so.

It would be a nice addition if we could really help our clients with their fanpages, I will be having an optin page per each client ,so then I can email them weekly or etc, specials.

Maybe it just takes a long time to gather 'likes'. doesnt happen overnight.

anyone???

You can either charge them for facebook ads service, or make the fan page interactive and interesting (such a hosting a customer photo/video contest on the fan page) if there is interesting stuff, new videos, interactive things, events, they will come back and it has chances to go viral.

Hey Tommy, you're right about Fanpages being a great option for your clients. They can be a great tool, but it does depend slightly on the type of business as far as how affective they can be. Buninesses that can offer discounts or coupons will benefit more than those who can't or don't. Also, businesses that are more interactive or have events do well with Facebook.

I have a free WSO that covers a specific niche which is one of the better options for fan pages as well as some ideas on getting more fans. It's free with no opt in at all, just click the link in my sig for the Free Offline WSO and you can find access to it if you'd like.

I had posted this the other day, but I thought it would help out in this thread as well. You can get $100 in Facebook ad credits for your clients that can help get them more fans.

head over to adcoupons.com for FB coupons to start off with for testing; it's important to have them land on a custom page that gives them a reason to join like a free offer or coupon

Some of the best ways to grow Fan Pages are with what I call Feeder Accounts. Set up a bunch of personal pages for niche or location. Build them up over time and suggest to friends. Embedding the Facebook Widget on your Blog or Website is also powerful. Lastly, for a Brick and Mortar business, encourage your clients to offer incentives to join Fan Page, have laptop or desktop in location, hand out a card, they can even text to 32665 to join a Fan Page from their mobile device.

The client needs to incorporate a "Follow us on Facebook" to all their customers correspondence/websites. Another good way is to add the "Facebook comments" widget to their blog along with the "Facebook sign in" widget so they can sign in a leave a face book comment from their blog.
Add free offers/coupons to the fan page and promote. Also a "Like it" widget.

bismarck window tinting . I dont really need an optin form, where as a bar or restaurant might, tthat way I could handle the emails to fans. Think about this:

1,000 fans. , so this week i send out 1,000 emails to the opted in fans. I send them each a coupon that gives a discount on a meal or certain drink., If only 10% want to go or make it, that is 100 people for a Thursday night, just from this one campaign.

Powerful for a business like that.

thanks for all the tips from everyone above.

If your client is just starting it is nice to make the page look a little professional. You can hire people to get you likes for a fee. I just created a page and paid someone $35 for 200 likes. I feel that gives the page a little more authority now. Plus makes the client happy as hell for cheap

Just having the "Follow us on Facebook" on all their correspondence is good but giving them a very good reason to follow on facebook is where the real benefit comes - an enticing offer could make them want to follow

Absolutely. I work with many restaurants and can say first hand that list building is essential for these businesses.

The 200 likes is good so your client at least looks popular (which can be beneficial) but are the bought 'likes' targetted that will bring real business to your client?

Thanks for the kind words, it's always nice to hear good things.

There is beginning to be a lot more information out there to help with Facebook marketing now that more and more people are fully realizing it's potential, especially for offline businesses. I feel it's one of the better options for offline consultants to get their foot in the door and to be able to get their clients results that they can see.

I enjoyed the WSO - is what you are offering on the WSO a blueprint and does it include a script? Most managers are busy, do you find them receptive when you cold contact, or do you buy a meal first?

    Hi Internetsweetie,

If you don't mind me saying, I believe Tommy started this thread about FB Fanpages. Your question/s are about contacting prospective clients & I believe also about Chad's WSO. Correct me if I'm wrong but, I don't see the relation.

    Hi Tommy,
If you don't mind me helping to answer 1 of the questions from internetsweetie.
Many of them are not receptive, but there are actually ways to get your foot in the door. I outsource to telemarketers to cold call (some even have excellent scripts).
It really helps to get a conversation with restaurant owners if you buy a couple of dishes from their menu. Then, you can do the song & dance to hook them.

All you have to do is click Hide. When something is posted on your Homepage from a Page you don't want to "De-fan", just hover over it and the word Hide appears on the right hand side, click it and it will hide all those annoying updates,

Look how big companies run their fanpages!

They constantly announce coupon deals, contests, sweepstakes, etc.

Find the fan page of Apmex on facebook and take a look at it.. Right now they are running a campaign where you have a chance to win precius metals for suggesting their fan page to all of your friends and family.

Other big businesses run similar stuff. Suggest our page, bring us new fans, get a coupon or sweepstakes entry.

Hey Tommy! This is great stuff. I am a web designer by trade and this is something I have very successfully implemented as an add on service. First to answer your specific question.

I have found are several effective ways to add fans. The trick is that your client has to give them a reason to become a fan. A discount, a coupon, something of real value, you know, free oil change, etc. Your client also has to have an understanding of how to effectively use the page once they have fans. That has been the most difficult part for me. As to adding fans, facebooks ppc is freaking awesome. The targeting you can do is like nothing else. It seems you have already looked at facebook ads and have seen that. FB ppc is my number one go to method. A word of advice, though. You don't really want to set your bid amount low. You actually want to set it kind of high. If you set it fairly high you will get more impressions and therefore more clicks. As you get more clicks facebook lowers your cost per click. When you are marketing locally your pool is smaller than a large campaign so you really want to make sure you get as many impressions as possible. Also, as I always preach, test test test. Split test all your ads to find the winners. Once you find an ad that works well runn it until it loses momentum. Then change it up. That seems to get the best results.

Another way is for you to join groups that are geographically centered on a topic. For instance, one of my clients is in Sioux Falls, SD. I joined several Sioux Falls based groups like the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society and the Walker Art Center, etc. You have to go in and contribute a little, but then you can post your link for the discount, coupon, whatever. The cool thing about facebook is that once you start building a few fans it's like a snowball effect.

    My two cents.

In my experience if you have some kind of content that only appears when a user becomes a fan and then, this content is high quality and valuable, then you will see your page growing in popularity. If you just stick to the basics and offer a good quality incentive then you will see it spreading.

Your fan page would need to be quite clear about the bonus material for clicking "like" in order to maximise the clicks. Overall though, offering content that only appears when they click 'like' has worked well for me.

I invested in FBML scripts that have viral aspects to them, like rewarding people for liking the page and sharing it with all their friends. Nice page templates, our own network of groups and pages built up, and reseller relationships with large group networks and bulk follower services. Always do SEM and videos for your facebook pages. Contests are great too.
