Your Chance To Make A Difference

A couple of years ago I made a post on the Warrior Forum about a friend of mine who is a restaurant owner.

I was talking about the fact that using some internet marketing strategies I'd shared with him he'd just had an astonishing new years eve where he could have booked every table three times over (and the price per head was substantial).

In that post I also shared the fact that if you focus using the internet marketing skills you already have on helping local brick and mortar businesses make real sales and profits you can do them a fantastic service and get paid some very good fees in the process.

Since then I have been involved with helping literally thousands of people working with local businesses selling their internet marketing services.

I've seen people go from zero to making a full time living...some making VERY substantial incomes.

More importantly we've helped some local businesses make profits when for many businesses it's been a struggle just to survive.

My friend the restaurant owner will again have his best year ever this year.

What's amazing about that is that the tourist and restaurant business in my city is not doing too well.

You can walk through the main dining areas in the city and see the for lease signs where the restaurants used to be.

Over the last couple of years my friend has gone from knowing almost nothing about marketing to being a very sophisticated marketer.

He has shared with me where most of his turnover is coming from and without the marketing strategies he's developed over the last couple of years he would almost certainly be out of business now like so many other restaurants in the area.

This is just one small story out of hundreds I could share.

And that's the point really.

This business is ALL about the small stories.

Little guys who work 50, 60, 80 hours a week and desperately need someone who cares about them and their business to give them a little help they simply can't get anywhere else.

The skills you have and the skills you can develop can revolutionize a small business.

It may not happen overnight but you look back after 1, 2 or 3 years and realize that a business, its owner and all its employees wouldn't be there without that little bit of help you can start giving today.

You have an incredible opportunity to make a huge difference.

Kindest regards,
Andrew Cavanagh

Well said, Andrew. That's one reason I'm really interested in performance based small business marketing services vs a lot of other IM money making strategies. I won't be happy if I rent a listing on a directory site but the client doesn't get any leads from it...even if they aren't aware that they aren't seeing an ROI. If I can't produce for my client, I'll find a service I can offer that does.

One of the biggest challenges is that the businesses that need it the most are typcially the ones that aren't willing to do anything or just can't understand the potential value.

Sometimes you need to change your perception of what a good prospect for your services looks like.

Many people starting out think that a business that is struggling with really poor marketing systems will make a great prospect.

In reality a high percentage of those businesses will go broke anyway because the business owners will never focus on what's really important (partly because they don't know what's important and partly because they're desperately clinging to an idea of what their business should be instead of dealing with reality and adapting to change).

On the other hand a business that is already making some effort to market effectively and is making reasonable or great profits can be a fantastic prospect.

And a business owner who is full on into internet marketing is rare but can be a great prospect too.

It's easy for them to make to the value decision.

In other words you explain how a strategy should make them a certain level of profit over what they pay you.

They've seen other strategies work like this in the past so they think great worth a try and write you a check so you can get started.

There are many businesses you can help and focusing on businesses that are doing well and trying different things can be a whole lot more fun.

Outside of that if you want easy access to business owners the easiest way to get paying clients is through referrals....especially referrals from other business owners.

So having a referral system (or several referral systems) and asking the business owners you talk to for referrals (even if they don't hire you) can be one of the most profitable things you do.

      Kindest regards,
      Andrew Cavanagh

    Hi Andrew

Great to hear a customer centric approach from another Aussie.

It's awesome that sharing some internet marketing strategies is the primary catalyst for him "still" being in business and prospering.

    Keep up the great work.

    Regards

Andrew, I agree, sometimes the businesses that need our services the most don't make good prospects. I find it hard sometimes because you see certain businesses that would be perfect for helping, but they can be the ones that would never go for what you are proposing.

Sometimes you just want to shake them up and make them see the light, but I guess with some they will never learn.

That's probably the biggest key to this business...that it's really a business about building relationships with people.

Your success working with each business is going to depend very heavily on that so if you can't build the right kind of relationship to begin with then it's not a business you can help in practice regardless of how much potential you can see in other areas.

Your ability to help a business really does hinge on the client/consultant relationship you can build.

Everything else is relatively minor in comparison.

The people who really get that early on are usually the ones who start making serious money the fastest.

        Hi Andrew

        Excellent overview.

We also find that the relationship improves when the results improve.

And, if anything changes such as a "little old Google dance" the relationship will hold fast especially if you have "educated" your client well.

        Regards

My client is a very good man that truly cares about other people. He owns a appliance repair business. He is actually quite busy except for this time of the year. Even though he is busy he tries to get more and more business so that he can share the business with other appliance repair guys that are just eaking out a living. I to want to be a giving person. Thats why I have provided a lot of my services to him at no or little charge. I know I could charge more. I just don't want to .

Currently I am setting him up on local review sites like yahoo local, yelp, merchantcircle, hotfrog etc. and then optimizing those pages and putting videos, photos, keyword optimized descriptions, testimonials etc and then building backlinks to those pages as well as to the pages on his website.

Can any of you suggest to me some of the things that you have done to truly drive people to your service related businesses. Please don't give me the fluff stuff that doesn't do anything. Please give me ideas that actually will make his phone ring.

The ideas don't need to just be internet related.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

Life is short. When im on my death bed someday I want to feel good that I have helped people and not just taken their money.

    Very inspiring post, thanks Andrew.

Always remember, succes is like a two egged sword. Succes to your client = succes to you, as a marketing consultant.

The other day, a talked to another offline consultant from WF. He and I gave each other businesscases of which, we could claim the business good condition, due to our services.

    What is just great about offline marketing consulting is;

    A) Huge market to enter, low barriers.
    B) Huge profits in supplying, if delivering.
    C) Big demand for years to come, start low key "small pops" and scals like Hiles tells.
    D) Big satisfaction for us, to help others succed.
    E) Our timeline has been put out of order, never work for 9-5 for pennies.
