Mind-mapping

In my other thread I mention mind-mapping as tool to show a prospect your vision etc.

If like me you did this on the hop then your drawing skills may leave a lot to be designed.

I just did a mind-map in more detail for my client and I'm using Free Mind it's free and it allows you to make a png/jpg and pdf as well. I like it so far so just wanted to pass it on to those who are interested.

Cheers,

  • Awesome tool. Just downloaded it. Thanks.

  • I use mind maps all the time - for everything! I find they are great for losts of tasks including mapping out my own personal goals and milestones, structuring a book or long article or even building idea lists.

I use Free Mind too. It is simple but gets the job done nicely.

    Another good alternative is Xmind.
  • Been using mind mapping for years and so many benefits to it.

I use Mindmanager which is a paid version with lots of good business tools built in. Latest version 9 now has project management tools built in that look really good to prospects when you show them. You can break down your proposal into work packages, then tick em off when you get the job. Can show the project as part of map, and as standard Gannt chart (bars). Really cool stuff.
  • I love using mind maps. Helps me to see things more clearly.

Just a heads up if you like mind maps, fellow Warrior member vagabond007 sells a mind map on here. It's gigantic, full of plenty of great information!

    • Thanks for all the new links added to this thread. More things to investigate.

Also another thing I did was format the mind map to a jpg file and then cut it into sections and add them to the report. That way sections were more targeted for the client to see the strategy. This worked really well.

      Thanks all.

  • The latest .9 release candidate 10 version has added attributes to nodes, meaning you can set up your own data fields and values that are associated with your map nodes... turning it into a hardcore data powerhouse.

Plus it will now export the map to a java/flash applet that can be embedded into an HTML page. Way cool.

    • Michael I don't know how I can cope with all this geek porn but I'll give it a go.

That sounds very interesting. My eyes popped with the export function. The more ways to export data the better.

      Thanks for sharing.

    • This looks interesting. I liked the some of the models listed. Very detailed. Thanks for sharing.

Mmm the only thing with free mind is that if your mind maps are very extensive and you want to export to print and place in a word doc it can be way too big and bulky.
