What to do to keep website ranking on page 1 of Google Places (7 box)?

Hi there,

I get my client's website ranked on Page 1 of Google Places right now.

I'm wondering if there is an easy way that my client can do to keep the website ranking there without dropping to page 2 or page 3.

What he said is it is not worth if he pays me now and next week his website is dropping from page 1 to page 2 or 3.

Thanks for your advice.

Well, with the new changes that Google have made to Places, the most important thing you can do is to ensure that your client's site is properly search engine optimized, both on page and in terms of backlinks. Without proper SEO, your client's site is liable to drift off into oblivion without notice.

      Hi Paulie.

So what you mean is we have to keep building backlink to the site, right?
I'm thinking about writing article and submit it to ezinearticles or goarticles with my client's website, address, and anchor text in the resource box or submit a press release for him once a month with his website url. Does this work?

      Thanks,

Sounds to me like a compelling reason for him to keep paying you. I mean, you have proven your effectiveness by getting him there, but search results are not static thing -- whether standard results, 7 Box or any of the other Google subsets. No one can honestly guarantee to achieve a specific Google rank that will hold indefinitely. This can be easily proven to your client -- present some credible supporting material/links and work out a nominal recurring fee for you to analyse his competition's link profiles/optimisation and do what you can to keep him at or near the top.

      Hi Frank,

No, my client doesn't want to pay me for a monthly fee. That's why he asks me what he can do by himself to keep his website on the 1st page of Google. He doesn't know about internet marketing stuff like link building, article marketing etc. So I try to find an easy solution that he can do without paying me every month to do it for him.

      Thanks,

Doesn't seem like there is an easy way to do it without actually teaching your client how to do it. That is always the option that you just have him pay you one time to teach him how to do it or make a tutorial for him and buy it from you, or just teach him how to do it for free.

          That is what I'm thinking.
May be I have to sit with him and teach him how to build backlink to his site.
Not sure if he's gonna pay me for that

          Thanks,

        What I tell clients is...

I've been working with the Internet since 1997.

Internet technology changes very quickly and I
spend thousands of dollars per year to keep my
        knowledge current.

Because it changes so fast and because I have invested
a lot of money and time to develop my knowledge
I don't share it. If you would like to retain me
on a monthly basis that would be fine and I will do
my best to keep your site in the best position possible.

If you decide to go it alone and then call me back
when your listing drops the monthly retainer will be
higher and it may not be possible to get back to
        the previous position.

You have to be willing to take a stand and walk away.

Unless it's a friend I wouldn't go down this road. Say good bye and let him come back to you when he gets the value. On the flip side, you could start a coaching or mentoring program for guys like him to learn what you know, but I'd charge a premium rate because you're not likely to make anything further once you give away the farm.

I made the mistake of charging a fee to get them on page one and ranked on google places, without setting up a recurring fee to keep them there.

The reality is all the listings I did like this are still ranked in the same place some even a year later without me doing anything to them. But I sure wish I was getting a payment from them every month now that I look back at it. But they are good examples to show when people want proof of results.

Now i always charge a fee to get them there, and then a monthly fee to maintain and increase the ranking. You can also point that yes now you are on page one ranked number 5 but if you continue to do seo, they will move up and there is a big difference in traffic between the top 3 ranked sites and a site ranked number 5. Every spot you move up is more and more valuable a bigger % of the traffic.

Sounds like this guy is being cheap, like the ones I dealt with in the past. The reality is his ranking could stay where it is for the next year, or it could be overtaken in the next 2 weeks. I definately would sell him on not being cheap, and pay you a reasonable affordable fee monthly. If not like someone said before ,tell him to call you if you need me, and charge him to do it all over........But definately dont teach him seo for free, unless you are just super nice like that. If you were a large firm, he would not be asking you to do this, he is just undervaluing your services.

Also the big thing here is GET RECURRING INCOME FROM EVERYONE GOING FORWARD. if they dont want to pay you monthly to maintain their rankings and improve the ranking, then charge them more up front.

          Hope this helps

      Hi Donkykong,

Sorry if my post is a bit confusing.
Yes, I already rank my client's website on page 1 of Google Places (top 5)
But my client wants to know how to maintain the rankings in that position.
He doesn't want to pay me for a maintenance fee

      Thanks,

Besides all the backlinks and SEO. Go big on Citations/Other Directory Listings. Merchant Circle is a must have now and here are a few others. Make sure the name and address is exact on all directories.

        SuperPages
        Yelp
        InfoUSA
        CitySearch
        Yahoo and Bing Maps
There are many others as well.

By the way, how much are you going to charge for a maintenance fee per month?

Curious to know what happened here? Did the client stay with you? The only thing I would tell him is that he can build citations and build links to his current site not his place page (pointless). Other than that, I agree with some of the other folks. That is why he pays you. Additionally, the algo can change and your dedicating time and resources to understand all of this so he does not have to.

The best thing that you can do to keep the Google places ranking up there is to keep getting links back to the actual website not on to the Google places but to the website itself. Lastly, to keep getting reviews on that google places page. I think those two things will help you stay there and continue.
