My Offline Marketing Quest - Daily Journal

Hi everyone, thanks for taking a moment to have a look at my thread, a couple of days ago I started interactiong on a superb thread started by John Durham ----> http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...knowledge.html

Basically after reading and interacting on that thread I decided that this would be too good of an opportunity to pass up so I have decided to jump right in and give it a go.

Over the course of about 2 days I started gathering as much information as possibel to ensure I knew exactly how to go about it, and all of the info I recieved is in the thread above. As well as John there was another guy giving me lots of valuable information Amir Luis, this guy actually let me contact him via skype and let me share some of his secrets (very greatful by the way) I asked him for a script as part of this whole process involves calling businesses and selling them services, and he pointed me in the direction of his wso -----> http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...marketing.html

And I must admit it's great not only is there a great script, well 3 actually but he also outlines a superb system that can and will make you some real money. I would strongly recommend anyone looking at having a go at this offline stuff to have a look.

No on to how I am going to start, today is my first day, basically I am going to start calling local service providers in my area and offering them a website, now instead of jumping straight onto the phone book I have looked through the local free circular for businesses with decent sized ads who arent actually displaying a web address. (basically I am going to tell them that they are missing out on a valuable opportunity. Since if they are paying so much for ad space they should consider a website to build relationships with clients)

By the way, these are companies which will have repeat customers.

Then once I had written down my list of businesses, It was over to google to do a quick search to see if in fact they do not have a site. And low and behold most of them don't. So once this post is finished i am going to start calling.

I am going to do everything on my own first of all, then when I build up some capital and have an idea of how this system works I will roll out phaze 2 as outlined in Amir's wso and start to work my way up to a couple of thousand pounds per month in residual passive income.

Anyway as soon as I have made my calls I will come back on and update.

    Lots of people read stuff and do lots of planning and thinking but never seem to get round to DOING.

    The first sale is the best.

    It's like winning the lottery when you get your first clent.

    Ok guys, here's a little update. So far I have called about 10 businesses, (not many i know, my one year old is awake and being a pain in the ass), out of that 10 I have 4 possible leads one of which sounds very promising

    One wants me to call back after 5pm
    Two are going to call me back
    And one wands me to email her a few templates, which is fine because I will be building my sites with webplusX4 and it comes with a few professional templates.

    I am in the same boat you are. I just started last week as Amir Luis called me out. I am using his scripts in his WSO because they are killer.

    I Skype with him on a daily basis and he is a great mentor! I owe a lot to him and we all owe John Durham a huge THANK YOU!

    I'm looking forward to how this goes out, you seem to be doing everything right and the topic you linked too has quite a lot of information. The money you make from creating the websites isn't going to be a lot, you want to start building up recurring incomes from each client, you can easily get $10-50/per month for web-hosting, then get creative with other services you can charge them every month for.

    I have been having a problem explaining to them exactly why they need a website, and why you can have me do it cheaper than Yellow Book. The people I have contacted are comfortable with paying Yellow Book $5-8k a month for the same service. Or even worse, they just say they are not interested in a website at all, even though they have nothing, or even worse are having people look at their terrible website that doesnt even convert, and think nothing is wrong with that. I am blaming this on the fact that I don't make 100-500 calls a day, I would most likely have somebody by now, but I am averaging about a little over 50 calls a day. And I might not be correctly expressing the value of a website to them.

    Did you get the million dollar script?

    Here's my advice. Stick to the script.

    Good luck!!!!! We're all rooting for you. If you need a commercial call list let me know. Since you are bold enough to do this in front of the whole world I will be glad to donote one... just tell me the area you are calling.

    Seriously. Dale carnegie say that "millions of dollars are created every single day by the simple , effective turn of a phrase".

    If someone shows you a million dollar phrase... dont re invent the wheel.

    As copy writers can tell you, the subtle nuances in a proven headline make all the difference.

    If you actually get an appointment... when you run the appointment, you will be less scripted.

    But on the phone, stick to the plan.

      Hey guys, thanks for all of your kind words of encouragement.

      Here's a little updat for you all, had a really hectic day today and only managed to make about 15 calls, I have been calling on hair salons,

      I have run into a lot of gate keepers over the two days I have called, managed to get around a few of them. So from todays calls I got about 5 straight no's from actual owners and about 10 gate keepers who said that they would pass my details onto the boss.

      Out of all of the ones who had my details passed onto them one guy Gary actually called me back, he runs a chain of 5 salons, he said that he was greatful that I had called and that he has been thinking about getting a website for quite some time now, told me he was calling me between clients and had to keep things short.

      So I told him a little about what I offer and one of the things i like to emphasize to the salons (well the two I have spoken with properly) is that any person who visits their website will be able to opt in for special internet only offers.

      Plus as well as just casual browsers who happen to find their site on google they can also direct each and every offline client who they deal with to their new site who can also sign up for the special internet only offers.

      After I have explained that, I then tell him that this can really be great when times are hard and business is a little slow, he can send out a one off mail with a really great offer (e.g 25% off hair colous) which could literally fill their diarys over night.

      He sounded really pleased, and asked me to give him a call on monday morning at 11am.

      @John Durham - Hey john I downloaded your free audio's and boy am I glad I did, I only wish that i'd have gotten it before I had spoken with Gary because instead of calling him on monday I would have been sitting in his office, lol.

      The script you are speaking to me about, is it the one in the audios, if so i got it, and just to tell you after listening i feel so confident. I know that tomorrow i am going to be on fire.

      John, I have only just got online but I am heading straight over to the telemarketing forum to sign up right now.

      Also can you get me a list that is local to my exact town in the Uk?

    Actually I dont currently have any UK lists... Strictly U.S.

    But I'll tell you what, if you do what it said on the seminar... you will absolutely nail this... you have to have a direction, you have to know what you are trying to accomplish on the phone, and where you are trying to go... Your "objective"... and

    A: Plant Seeds
    B: Keep covertly directing the prospect back in the direction that leads to you close.

    Thats what they call "ABC" always be closing. How can you close, if you have no idea where you are trying to end up or how to direct the conversation there?

    You know how to do that. I bet you will too.

    Advice:

    Try to do a 200 call session and you'll get it, using the techniques demonstrated.

    Examples:

    1: "Oh okay you already have a website? Great. Hows that working for you? You getting any customers from it"?

    "The Reason I asked is because... (Redirect them back in...) "we also offer..."

    2: Oh Okay, already have an seo guy... let me ask...you ever heard of face book marketing?

    The reason I asked is because...alot of our clients are saying social marketing is their number one traffic source... we offer social marketing packages starting at ______... they include_______, tell you what Bob is this your office number? Okay great... Whats a good time to catch you on it tomorrow? (Start setting the appointment) Oh okay, well Im actually out that way... I could stop by for a few minutes between one and two if you want to talk about this...which of those would be best for you?

    3: Have you folks got a google listing...?

    The reason I asked is because... (redirect them back in)

    "alot of business owners say they are getting more business from that than any other single marketing action...."

    Oh you have one? But it isnt working for you?

    Are you on the first page?

    The reason I asked is because... (redirect them back in...) usually if you arent getting traffic from your google listing its because you arent on the first page... its easy enough to get there usually just a couple of tweaks... let me take a look at that for you... tell you what, I'll do that this evening and I could actually come by your office tomorrow for a few... I have an 11 oclock and a 12 open tomorrow, which of those would be best for you?

    ABC "Always Be Closing".

    A: Ask A Question
    B: Justify the question
    C: Redirect them back to the pitch.

    Lead them to the close...

    "I'll you what, I have a one and a two open tomorrow... which one of those would be best for you"?

    You can do this.

    I am using the script John gives in the WSO. Its a great script, the only problem I am having with it (and my friend who is currently working at a call center who has been critiqueing me on my calls) is that it seems too long. Because when I have been doing it, some people tend to cut me off and want the "bottom line" so they can tell me "no", and I try to get them back on track with the script and they just don't cooperate. And I know you are going to get people that don't cooperate with the script because that comes with the game, and its not going to work 100% of the time, and its mostly a numbers game and I need to increase the volume of my calls. But what do you suggest for that the next time it happens? Just try my best to keep them on the script, and if not move on?

      Well if at any point you find they arent interested let them go... you dont want to waste your breath on people who dont want to talk to you... if they are interested they are answering your questions... if you sense any lack of interest... "NEXT... Not my Market...Moving on..."

      The script is made to find interested parties... you move them through the script until they arent interested or until you close them... usually lack of interest can be picked up within 10-15 seconds... if they are irritated, let them go, I dont even say bye half the time its just like "Click" dont want waste either of our time with long good byes... move on... they are glad you clicked...

      How many numbers did you dial today? Just out of curiosity? And what program are you working? Appointment setting...? Giving away a free webpage?

      I can help with more detail. Lets train here for real.

      Exactly. Keep the positive momentum going. Get into a "love vibe", in your "groove"... and dont let the machine get stopped up with head butting... you sense that someones energy is not harmonizing...let em go... throw em back like a fish that wasnt the right kind...and keep going...just spreading great, energy as you go till you hear that guy say "Hey, Im glad you called! Yeah! I was just talking to one of my staff members about that the other day"!

      Ps. Treat each prospect like they are your first call... remember, you may have just said this 20 times in a row (and you perfected it more each time btw) but its his/her FIRST time for hearing it.

      That's the key to success in calling up businesses. As a matter of fact, the majority will not be remotely interested in what you're offering, so your job is to quickly discern their interest in your services, and to immediately move on if they're not. The less time you spend on these "uninterested" calls, the more time you can spend on the business owners who are actually interested!

    Today I made 73 calls to lawyers & doctors offices I got off of manta.com that had claimed the listing, and I saw did not have websites or had sites that were not updated/optimized. I don't have an autodialer so I am entering each number. I am giving away the free web pages, attemting to offer ongoing seo as an add on after the site is up. This week I have landed one person (a wedding photographer) who happily accepted the site and agreed to the hosting terms (and deposited money). So my spirits are up because at least I got somebody, so it is working, I am now looking at ways I can do better for next week.

      I listened to a local SEO webinar earlier this evening. It sounds like this particular program already has a script and all, but a learned a couple creative approaches from the webinar that might work as well.

      Put together a package and donate it for a local nonprofit fundraiser. I guess people bid on it and the ones who didn't win often call back.

      Call a business like you're interested in what they offer, and ask them for their website "because I couldn't find it."

      If they don't have a website, say you'll come by to pick up a brochure. Mention that you provide SEO services and stop there.

      Just a few tips I heard. Not sure if this works with the program you're following or not, but wanted to pass along the info.

      Okay PERFECT. So you tried the Million Dollar Idea Aproach Then, and you made a sale.

      Now we have a plan.

      So Lets look at this.

      You made 73 dials over the period of one day and landed one monthly residual paying customer. 73 dials is about an hour of calling, or an hour and a half if you go slow.

      Telemarketers make 500 dials per day... and decent ones can land 5 or 6 of those per day.

      Now do you see what I mean?

      If you call 2 or 3 hours per day you will create 10 - 15 monthly paying customers next week, and your conversion ratio will increase even beyond a decent average!!! 1 out of 73 calls is average.

      You landed a customer within 73 dials! Good Job. You are fine, now just increase your out put.

      There isnt anything wrong with your numbers at all. You are already right on track as an decent average performer. If you could get one sale out of every 73 dials then in a call center you could keep your job. Nice.

      Congrats thats more sales than some people make after trying IM for 2 months believe it or not!

    Ok so today I have called about 30 people with no luck, most were too busy to talk aslo got a lot of straight no's, I also called about 10 solicitors and left my intro and name and number.

    I guess that saturday is probably not the best day to make calls, going to leave it to monday morning firtst thing, (they won't be busy then lol)

    Anyway atleast i got to practise my intro a bit, sometimes I got a little tongue tied but it's getting there.

    I will have my first sale soon I know it.

    Also a friend of mine put me intouch with a guy who is an "experienced telemarketer" so i have proposed a deal with him where by if he closes any sale for me I will pay him £100, but only for every completed sale.

      Yeah, you got some practice thats good. 30 calls isnt a significant enough call session to really make any determinations at this point. They were probably 50% no contact... Monday will be more productive. Also if you arent focused on independent business owners strictly... You are experience a lower pitching ratio because it will be mostly gatekeepers. Next week we will try to hook you up with a list. Im out of internet til monday afternoon, because we moved to a new house. Im at an internet cafe right now just checking up.

      Suburbanhype above made 73 calls before getting a sale... and he's doing about average for the type of thing he's pitching. or you and the program you are pitching I would figure setting 3 appointments out of 200 dials, which means about 40-50 actual "contacts".

      Once I get back online monday we will work it out and get you cranking bud!

      Just so you know (and I'm sure you do already), you're probably going to have to call a lot more than just 30 prospects in order to see results that will keep you motivated. Ideally, you'd want to call at least 100 prospects per day if you can manage it. It's good that you got many straight no's, because this means you can quickly move on to the next prospect. I hope you can see now that you'll probably have to go through a lot of no's to get a yes, and I feel that calling just 30 prospects per day isn't really going to yield any tangible results.

      Hello New Guy may I suggest that you rehearse the script you've got until you don't even have to think about it, so that it comes like part of your natural speech.

      You're in the UK like me. Did you see the disaster in Coronation Street on the TV? It looked so real I almost felt for those people.

      But guess what!

      It was a script. They had all learned and rehearsed a script over and over until it was perfect.

      You need to do the same, sometimes the person on the other end of the phone can pick up on hesitation or uncertainty in your voice, it will put them off dealing with you.

      Rehearse your script and make it sound as natural as possible.

    Good to see you're journaling this endeavor. It'll give hope once you start being successful and newbies like myself can see that the road to success wasn't exactly paved with gold.
