How to Get Places Reviews

It's a fact that people who have a favorable opinion of a business are much less likely to share their opinion on Yelp or other than a person with a negative opinion. So how do we get people to submit favorable reviews to the business that are our clients?

Have the business solicit the reviews at the point of purchase, maybe even incentivize the request with a drawing or discount.
What better time to get a positive review (and give a bribe for one ;-) than when they complete their transaction or meal.

These would be inputted manually to Yelp or whatever (note the disclaimer about sharing). I would add "First Name" and "City".

That's a great idea. Well done.

For Google Places reviews, don't you need to be a google member.

And won't Google know if you are entering reviews from the same Google ID same IP address.?

If you listen to this audio at time point 2:37 into the audio.

Laura mentions a way to gather hand written reviews, and putting them onto posterous (which I use)

Does anyone know what Laura is talking about??

Posting scanned in images to posterous and allowing Google Places to get reviews?

    Thanks

Perhaps she means scanning the handwritten reviews and posting the image to posterous, possibly supported by review written in text so
it gets picked up by the search engines.

This is only a guess !!!

If you are looking for an automated solution then we are putting together a piece of software that will post the reviews to multiple citation sits through different user accounts and IP addresses.

Signed up to the lblrobot software email list, as I'm sure most on the offline forum area would have. I'm interested to see it.

Sounds like another value add service to offer the clients.

They collect all the reviews / testimonials they can get their hands on.

They pay for a service to get those reviews into Google / Yelp / Whatever

I counsel my clients to offer 10% off at the point of sale (assuming the client is happy)
you could call it bribing.. it is

    it also works

We've found if you ask a customer to leave a review, no matter how happy they are, as soon as they leave (or in the case of a service business like carpet cleaning for instance) the customer forgets to follow through

Therefore I started counseling my SEO clients to offer a discount while presenting the bill, then stay there, watch over the shoulder of the client to make SURE they leave a review. This is also done FROM the customers home/ ip address.
