Hi There, I've been reading this forum religiously for the past month now and have finally decided to join. While initially interested in making my riches in the online marketing field, this sub forum has completely captured my attention and changed the direction I intend to take.

Instead of making off like a bandit via blogging and becoming an affiliate assassin, I'm going to spend the next year learning what it takes to make it in the online world (ex. How to make a website/blog, rank well on Google, SEO Optimize and etc.), then use that knowledge to help business owners strengthen or create their online presence.

Granted Armageddon, the Apocalypse, or any other end of world event doesn't take place in 2012, by January 1st 2013 I'll have learned enough to switch over to the offline marketing arena and dominate!

Thanks to this forum, I've got high hopes for the New Year .

    Welcome.

Looks like your plan is to learn and apply before you teach what you've learned. Excellent. (Not everyone does so.)

A year spent studying is a great idea, but don't forget to jump in (albeit cautiously where money is involved) and work what you learn as you go along. (Action paralysis is all too common. I speak from experience. )

I'm sure you've heard it before, but "ready, fire, aim!" will keep your learning and studying far, far more on track than just learning by itself.

This way you'll have firsthand knowledge of the "real" work with which to help those other businesses.

    Nice to have you here!

      nesses.

      Nice to have you here!
Oh I definitely plan on learning as I go. I've already decided to pursue six ideas/projects that I'm going to stagger as far as start dates are concerned, and exclusively work over the course of the year. I think they should give me enough breadth to be able to address the needs of my future clients since I'll be doing everything from running a personal blog to a business website to affiliate selling.

I'll also look into doing facebook campaigns and eventually start building a list (most likely towards the end of the year when I'll know a little somethin' somethin' in regards to what I'm doing).

Anyways, thanks for the kind words Nathan.

It shouldn't take you a YEAR to get a good enough understanding to activly do it. Unless you get the guru overwhelm and start jumping around from idea to new idea like some do (I was guilty if that at one point). 3 months of learning and 3 months of doing it, and activly getting clients you will be ahead of most. The forum is probably the best thing on the internet as far as support while you are learning, so you will do just fine. Wish you the best of luck with your endeavor!

Thanks for the vote of confidence SubUrbanHype.

As I mentioned in another thread, part of the reasoning behind the year long time frame is because I don't really have the time to commit to cold calling.

Also, in a way, I did* intend to go from idea to idea as you might be able to tell given the ideas/projects I mentioned I wanted to work on... Mainly so I could be Jack & Master of a handful of trades.

      * Alas, John has done it again and I'm seeing even less of a reason to master umpteen online skills when I can just find a few people who do what they do really well and leverage their talents to throw together a killer package for a client.

Setting a time to learn offline marketing will leave you forever leaving time to learn.

Marketing is always changing. New techniques, new mediums, and new niches.

I suggest to learn as you go, just ensure you do not overpromise.

Very true. This is why I just wanted to wrap my brain about how all this stuff works at ONE point in time, before moving on and outsourcing to those who are keeping up with the current trends.

"I suggest to learn as you go, just ensure you do not overpromise."

Good advice. And yet another reason why I'm going to outsource to the pros and develop my skills as necessary.

    hello to 'the kid',
all the best with your online quest i wish you great success.

Sometimes taking action is the best way forward because then you can learn from your own mistakes. What someone may tell you that works may not work for you.

Hi Kid, I just wanted to say that your attitude is awesome. So many younger people get caught up in the misconception that a job is the only way to make a living. What a load of garbage!

    I have one suggestion however....

Don't just focus on learning. Take some action and start to build yourself a solid financial foundation. Make mistakes, because failure is the best teacher, unlike they tell you in school. Internet makreting change quickly, and its difficult at times to keep up That what makes the WF such a great platform for the exchange of ideas.

If I can be of any help to you, dont hesitate to ask

The best way to make money helping business owners is to learn how to make them a profit... That should be the number one focus. If you can create or grow profit centers for business owners, then the compensation will take care of itself.

Keep in mind, you certainly don't have to be a "jack of all trades" to be successful. The skill you should focus on mastering is learning how to match up businesses with their target customers/clients.. There are a lot of ways to do that, but don't get tunnel vision and only focus on SEO, Google Places, PPC, etc.

So many people miss the boat and focus too much on how to perform and do the tedious tasks, and don't master the art of business building. That's the big difference between the people that make a couple thousand bucks per month and 5-6 figures per month.

    Best of luck to you!
