Coupons for local business?

Can someone tell me how coupons work and where to get the best ones please?

How do you offer coupons on FB Fanpages and on customers websites for - say, a restaurant?

I know this is probably basic stuff to you experts out there but I'm only just learning about offering FB Fanpages to my offline clients (one of my clients rang me to ask about FB...)

Thank You

Karen

Well it depends on your strategy for starters.

Example you could have the same coupon for google places, company website and facebook.

Or you could have a seperate coupon for each of them
Coupon 1 - only avaiable at the company website
Coupon 2 only avaialbe after they "like" the company facebook
Coupon 3 - in the google places listing
    Coupon 4- 4square/Gowalla only

This way requires more time to setup/creativity for 4 coupons but it can also help you track where you are getting customers from.

Also have you looked into yelp/urbanspoon ?

How are the coupons delivered after they 'like' the facebook page?

        Hey Karen,

There are now a few more options when it comes to coupons.

        1) You can turn it into a group deal.
        2) The coupon can either be printed or shown via mobile means (tablet, smartphone)
        3) It can be an online coupon with a promo code leading to an e-commerce store.

        There are other scenarios too.

If you're looking to set up a facebook coupon promotion, you'd use WildFire App

And if you need any help, just give us a shout- mcloughlinpromotions@gmail.com

        Cheers.

Coupons are supported in Google Places. Places pages all have a unique link you can use on Facebook or wherever.

In addition, if your customer pays Google $25 a month for a "Tag" the tag link will open to a dedicated landing page.

see Google Places tour for details on how it works: Place Page Tour : Get started - Google Places Help

Some other great ways to use coupons:

1 - Foursquare - get x% off or yyy free after 5 visits

      2 - Website email opt-in - set auto-responder to email them a coupon

3 - Mobile opt-in - set for coupon to be sent via sms after sign up

Coupons have 2 great uses - the first is obvious - get them to the business. The second is longer term - giving you a way to market to them directly in future.

        Hi Karen,

I think the term "coupon" could take one of many forms today. It could be an traditional coupon that you want folks to print out and bring into your store or as simple as saying "mention you saw this in our newsletter and save 10% on your next purchase".

        Excellent advice from Jamie here...

Special offers are a great way to build a permission based contact list and keep people interested in hearing from you on a regular basis, but I think you have to be careful and test to determine just how often you should be sending coupons to your list, as too often and you train people to buy from you only when you have a special deal to offer.

        Cheers,

        Steve

P.S. I forget where it is now, but I know I've seen some links to online coupon creators here on the forum that'll help you design a nice graphic that could be included in a newsletter, on a website or on a fan page as well. I'll post a link if I come across that again.

I was very skeptical of the google tags, but I have had a client use them and they get about 1 customer per day from them, so depending on your industry it can be very effective.

I like the auto coupon using the autoresponder. A great way for the client to build their email database and super easy to administer! If you are really adventurous you can have multiple sign up pages for different campaigns and track what works the best.
