Facebook sending out postcards to businesses???

One of my salespeople came back today and said when she has been trying to talk to people about custom fanpages that they told her Facebook had sent them postcards saying they had already created a fanpage for them, just log in and get started!

Anybody else heard of this?

If not, do you think it could be another company PRETENDING to be Facebook and making these to send out as a marketing ploy?

Just wondering what is going on here.

It might be a technique for these web design firms and I can say what an awesome idea it is!

Cool it's great for us as marketers if thats the case because then businesses will be looking more than ever for FBML templates.

If it is a company thats doing it who is not Facebook then i'm prety sure it's illegal. We had a business who did something like that locally and go sued big time.

I don't think it would actually be legal for Facebook to do it either. Don't quote me though because i'm no lawyer lol

If it's a US wide thing though it can only benefit us as offline consultants.

I haven't heard about FB doing this, but if they did I would imagine they'd do something similar to Google and the place pages they start and leave it to business owners to claim and personalize.

Of course it could be someone local or national claiming they're from Facebook, just like many people selling adwords and place pages claim to be from or working with Google.

Honestly, I'm surprised FB hasn't developed their own tools to custom build pages for businesses or started offering that service themselves. If anyone's got the resources to do that it would be them - but even if that happened there would still be people willing to pay someone else to set everything up for them.

    Cheers,

    Steve

That's a great way for us to build our businesses... imagine if it is not FB but an internet marketer.

Facebook is sending out postcards to businesses who have a place listing with them and have not claimed it. It's not the same as a fan page but they can set it up to act like one. Same thing Google was doing.

The way you go about using this to your advantage is explaining to the business owner that just verifying the page does not do much unless the page is setup right. You can then sell them a package to optimize and maintain that page.
