Advertising with Road Signs: What's The Trick?

I was wondering if any of you use this form of advertising for your marketing campaigns. I'm sure you've seen the little 18 X 20 road signs at major intersections and at the entrances of plazas. I've noticed that some of these in my city are in their spots for months, while others get taken away or pulled down inside of a week (if lucky).

Something tells me that there's a trick to advertising with road signs because I recently had one pulled. The ironic part is that it wasn't placed on private property, and it was at a respectable distance from the nearest business. I'm thinking that maybe a landscaper got rid of it...who knows. What I do know is that I'm ready to try this again, as I believe this form of offline advert works really well! Any thoughts fellow marketers?

Check with your local county government to make sure that it is legal. Most major cities have laws that will lead to heavy fines. If it is legal, then the trick is to focus on the high traffic times and intersections.

Here in Pinellas County, Florida if that's the case then everyone is breaking the law. These things are everywhere.... But what about those having yard sales? Technically wouldn't they be breaking some county codes too?

I'll be sure to check my resources, though. Thanks, ViralSo

    Hey Kevin,

Nice to see another Warrior from my neck of the woods on here. You're right about the signs being everywhere in Pinellas County. You can get some good info, tips and methods about Bandit Signs on Youtube. Just do a search for Bandit Signs and you will find a lot of people talking and showing how to use them and keep them up. There are even some pretty cool tools for putting them up and making them harder for people to get rid of. I was surprised at how much info was on Youtube about them when I was checking them out a while back.

Hope that helps a little bit,
    Chad

Real estate "I Buy Houses" seminars that I used to go to had a strategy of putting them up on Friday NIGHT and removing them Sunday NIGHT, over and over again, claiming that the sign-removal authorities generally don't work on weekends.

Dude, this is brilliant! Now that I think about it, I really don't see these county employees on the sides of the roads on the weekends. Noted...and will certainly try. Thanks, again!

Also consider private property. The city won't take them down normally and if the property owner or renter is ok with them they will not remove them.

I think of all the marketing tactics this one has me most conflicted.
As a marketer you have to do what it takes to get the word out BUT dammit Im tired of ugly ass signs littering the roads.

It is one tactic that I have never used just because I hate to see them, even though I know they can be effective....I may turn one day, LOL
