Is there a way to create a new Places listing WITHOUT the postcard confirmation?

Hi All,

I've built a new GP listing that I want to market with a local website that is already ranked. My intention is to lease both in a package deal to a local brick and mortar.

My question is re: the GP listing. When I submitted the listing, my only option was to get the confirmation post card and NO phone option was available.

Am I missing something? I have a dedicated VOIP # ready for this listing and want to verify through phone (since the address is bogus - until I can lease the site).

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Rob

This is the same problem I considered after reading posts recommending leaseing out a GP page that is ranking. It's very "gray" hat and Google is obviously cracking down on spam. If any warriors who have successfully found a way to get a GP listing **recently** for website leasing purposes, I'd appreciate the input also. I've heard of using a virtual address, but how does that work?

    Hi Rob

Given that you have already given Google the "postcard" instructions its simply a matter of waiting for it to turn up.

Or, kill off the listing and start again.

BUT - this time do the phone verification.

    regards

Yeah... I was thinking the same thing.... can't you just do a phone verification?

    Easy Peasy.

    That's the thing.

When I created the listing, I was NOT given the phone option. =(

I didn't miss it either, I know what to look for, it just wasn't there.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks in advance.

I just don't know... I haven't added any Google Places listings myself lately.

I just bought a WSO on optimizing my own listings that way I can do it in house instead of outsourcing. So once I get done reading... I will let you know how it works out. If I can do a phone verification I will definitely let you know.

Same issue with a new GP listing I have.

I chose phone verification, but never received a call. Hell, the only time it recognized it needed to be verified was when I chose postcard.

      Hi

It looks like they have only reverted to postcards in some areas as we still get the phone call or SMS option here.

Not sure if that helps but it is pretty typical of Google testing stuff.

      Regards

Yeah sometimes its good to be so far away from Googles primary testing grounds.

            You're right about that!

And I'm definitely in a testing ground for Google. Oh well, where there's a will...

By the way, I must add that I LOVE finding a good outsourcer. I just paid $20 to have 50 business citations created on PR5++ sites. Nice...

Yes, until you verify the listing either via postcard or telephone your listing won't go live.

The most common reason for not getting the phone call, was you were using a number that Google did not like. This is pretty common with VOIP numbers, and some of them they block entirely, in order to combat bulk listings.

There was no problem whatsoever doing a phone verification from my computer.

I live in the Southwest and I just optimized my listing.... then few a couple of social bookmarks at it.

It didn't suggest that in the WSO that I bought.... but I figure it can't hurt.

      Hi Amir

Yeah social bookmarks are good as they are simply backlinks.

Good to see you thinking outside the square.

      regards

    Lol!
I use whitehat methods and never have any issues.
    Wierd, I know....
You are trying to lease out a GP listing?
Why not just offer an on-going GP Optimization?
That way you can do everything whitehat and not worry about a postcard going to a fake address. What are you going to do when the address doesn't get verified.

Maybe offer the website for lease, then when someone leases it, tell them can also get them ranked in GP for $xxx/month.

If there was no option for the call and the post card is the only option then you have no chioce but to wait for the post card.

You could rent storage locker/mail box where they will accept and hold your mail....But that is apt to be considered black hat as googles TOS state the location has to me open to the public where you are actively doing business so to speak.

Seems that google is really shaking up the whole place with regards to google places and many listings are going through the alternative algorythem which goes through the listing like a fine tooth comb...Also herd that google hired a whole bunch of people to manually review listings.

I'm with you on this one. I only use GP listings as an up-sell item with businesses now. That way all of the information is true and totally white hat. There is no sense in wasting time trying to do things your way with Google. You will drive yourself nuts.

That's a good point Phil. What do you charge your existing clients for the GP service? One time and/or monthly? When upselling, what exactly are the services provided?

        Thanks

You have to have a listed phone number for the actual business at the business's correct address in order to verify by phone.

      You do?

I don't know if that is always the case.... The reason I say that is because I use a GoogleVoice phone number for my business phone number.

Maybe it is because it is owned by Google that they let me slide.
