As stated in a previous thread, I have :
88 trial leads from Go Leads
100 trial leads from Sales Genie
200 trial leads from Hoovers(I talked to the sales rep yesterday and he said to call back Mon to activate the trial)

This is 388 total trial leads. I will find 12 other people that advertise in the newspaper to call to come to an even 400 cold calls for the week. This is nothing b/c many of you hardcore dialers knock this out in a week.
My goal is:
400 Calls
4-6 Appointments
2 Sales
I already have my outsource guy in place. I should be able to net $1000-1100 off this formula. Possibly more if the stars align. I then plan to reinvest part of this $ into a list for week 2 calling(1k list).

Your local Business Journal is another place for leads, like Phoenix Business Journal. Haven't purchased any recently but they used to be like 10 cents each a few years ago. You can go back a year, 180 days, 30 days etc. I remember it took a little digging on their website to find it.

      1 appointment in 100 calls?

I'm no phone selling guru (have spoken out about it enough in the past lol), however I've come to accept that it is a great part of a marketing strategy and I have used some of the ideas shared on here with great success recently.

I am confused at your aim to get 1 meeting in 100 calls - this seems awfully low, even if all of the 'leads' were cold. Do you not feel that pushing through so many calls might dilute the quality of the calling experience for the business owner at the other end of the phone? It's great to go through a good volume of calls, but I think you can do so much better than 1 meeting in 100, if you pursue it in the right way.

Just wait till the legendary Mr Durham comes on and says he can close all 100 and get a free testicle polish from them!

I'm no TM wiz like John but, from what he's stated on his forum, 1 meeting out of 100 calls is actually pretty average*. Additionally, one will not dilute the quality of the call for the business owner as not everyone who answers will be interested enough for you to even make it to the pitch.

Also, out of those 100 calls, the vast majority will be no answers or you won't get through to the owner so a telemarketer typically makes upwards of 500 calls a day. Now, if you're talking about warm/hot leads, that's a different story all together but yeah, you said "even if all the 'leads' are cold" and I don't want anyone to get discouraged if they can only secure 1 appointment per 100 calls.... While John may be able to do more than this cold calling, not even he throws such figures around as par for the course.

Not trying to flame you, as I can see your post was more of a "don't sell yourself short" type comment versus a "you must suck if you think 1 out of 100 means you're actually doing something", I just don't want anyone getting an inflated idea of the results they should be getting from cold calling.

*Initially said above average... a cold call *sale* per 100 calls is above average, not appointment setting*

The dialer runs through 100 numbers per hour, and 80% of those are gonna be "dropped calls", "Disconnects"...or "you dont get the person you need"... all kinds of stuff, its just "Hello/Good bye" for 80% of that hour.

15- 20 times during the hour you get to speak with the appropriate person, 7 will not be interested, 5 will be "Call me back next month..." and one or two will be appointments...

Note: it may take more than 100 calls to get that average. Similar to PPC, where it may take a thousand impressions to get 100 clicks to get 2 or 3 sales...

If so, "thats just what it takes". Time to get real about business. Conversion doesnt matter at the end of the day as much as "results"... or "revenue generated". TM conversion is certainly alot higher than PPC.

One thing is for sure... Nothing Plus Nothing equals nothing. If you are making consistent contact with prospects, then you dont have consistent business. If not; you are just day dreaming.

The average dialer is doing 70-100 calls per hour. A telemarketer who can set one appointment per hour is pretty decent.

I dont MAKE the rules... I have just observed and proven them a thousand times.

If you want business you have to do what it takes. Beyond all the hype, thats the truth.

PS. Some TMS can do more than 1 in 100 but I always project based on low ball expectations. When you project based on average performance as opposed to stellar and you get more consistent results. Even the stellar arent always stellar and all pistons dont fire at once.
