Managing Multiple Social Media Properties... How to's

With social media being an important and prominant service to offer local businesses, I'm wondering how many of you currently providing services such as facebook, twitter, foursquare, linkedin, etc are going about setting up and managing your social campaigns.

For instance, are you setting up a system for the business owner to encourage their customers to follow all of these properties at once, or primarily focusing on just one such as facebook or twitter?

I'm probably putting too much thought into this but people are very busy or at least feel that they are I don't know how well it would go over trying to get people to like your fanpage, follow your twitter page, join foursquare, etc... All at one time.

I have ideas and am familiar with the popular ways to provide incentives to sign up or join these properties, but interested in hearing from experience the steps taken to incorporate the multiple options and choices that are available regarding the social platforms.

Thanks.

I usually create the accounts, with custom backgrounds etc. Then I teach then how to use hootsuite to manage twitter/fbook/linkedin.

I use these Social Media properties primarily as a way to drive traffic to my money site. I use ping.fm to usually blast out important notifications.

For facebook I've run enough ad campaigns to know what people will click on so I have one that only costs me .02 cents per click where I constantly build my FB fans. That plus I custom built a pretty kick ass landing page.

For twitter I built it years ago and it had a decent following just from being active. I've since resorted to software to follow/unfollow etc and that has worked very well at steadily increasing

I use a few other less popular ones but those are the main 2 obviously. I also have a youtube account which I use every once in a while. In order to really take advantage of that you need unique videos you create. That seems to be the best way to build up subscribers.

Thanks guys. Once I have a business set up with fb, twitter, etc or have spiced up their current accounts, how are you approaching the system to get people liking and following and all that.

For example, say I get the business to offer a special discount for their online customers only, or for their facebook fans only, twitter followers only, or whatever. The basic jist is to offer an incentive for customers to become fans or followers on the various social platforms.

Are you trying to get customers to get onto these sites all at once or maybe just focusing on fb for instance and then introducing something like twitter and foursquare later down the road.

I manually pick people to add as followers for their Twitter account.

I usually have them interact on their personal profile and then have people like their page by adding the links in their personal profile. When people visit their fan pg I make sure it's good valuable content that makes them come back and they will start sharing it with their friends.

I also only focus on a couple accounts first because I think people spread themselves too thin. I believe that you need to pick 1 or 2 platforms and then get them into your daily routine befor adding more.

Many times I click on people Twitter account and they may have only 20 followers and no activity and the same for FB.
