What phone do you have?

I am a little bit behind on technology and still have a regular cell phone.

I need to upgrade soon though because it's embarrassing to want to show a client how their website looks on a smartphone and have to ask for theirs!

Any suggestions?

I use the Blackberry Torch along with the Blackberry Playbook. There are many options depending on your target market. My clients can see how their sites looks on tablets as well, and they get blown away by the demos of our other services.

Paul, are you one of the favored insiders who somehow picked up a special pre-release Blackberry Playbook? To the best of my knowledge, the Playbook isn't on sale yet.

I had a blackberry...then got an iphone....I will never get a blackberry again...it is vastly inferior.

The one really stupid thing iphone did was hook up with verizon...which has far more coverage that ATT. However there will be an verizon version iphone soon.

Droids are good ...have an associate with one...very similar to iphone and tons of apps.

You may think you wont use alot of apps ...you will ....I was never very dependent on my phone until I got the iphone ....now it is my little PDA.

I would not recommend using an iPhone when doing demos for clients. It is unable to read Flash and has a relatively short battery life. Could be embarassing.

I have to Motorola Droid. I had no idea what it was prior to purchase since i don't watch much tv. But it was a $600 that I got for free with 2 year agreement.

But I absolutely LOVE this phone, am happy I got it and don't know what I'd do without it.

I had a Blackberry Curve.... gave it to my daughter and took over my hubby's (He got the Torch) - so now I have the Blackberry Bold.

I'll be upgrading shortly to either the Blackberry Torch, or I'll wait for a bit more and see what else comes out

I absolutely LOVED LOVED LOVED My Curve. Miss it, I don't like the Bold as much, mainly because of the keyboard. (The curve is smooth, the bold isn't as smooth... I type faster on the curve LOL).

My hubby absolutely loves the Torch, and his boss at work had the iPhone. TOTALLY regretted buying it, and just a few months later, gave it to a friend and bought the Torch. He loves it too.

      The rundown is mainly this:

The Blackberry is best for business
The iPhone is best for fun / apps.

Like MYOB said, the iPhone is restricting with some things (like flash).

I've heard the new Blackberry tablet coming out is supposed to be huge and above/beyond the iPad in capabilities (for flash etc) but since I don't have one (yet!), I don't know.

    I have the Driod.

If you questions is really what is a good tool to bring to clients for demo use, it was mentioned above: a tablet pc. Either a full convertable laptop or an IPAD or the new Droid tablets. I have a Toshiba M700 that I bring around to clients and they love it. I got it on used on Ebay for $340. I just purchased the Archos 101 Android Tablet for $380 on Ebay and will be trying that out.

If you want to use a tablet pc to demo clients, you should get mobile wi-fi to bring with you so that you don't have to rely on your client having wi-fi or having to ask them for their password to get on thier network.

Exactly. Presentation is critical. I was at an electronics trade show in Las Vegas this weekend and signed up 43 new clients by demonstrating our services using my new Blackberry Torch and Blackberry Playbook, with wifi. These guys were some big name vendors at the trade show, and were absolutely awed! You can get a one call close just by being able to have access to all of your marketing material right on the spot.

If you're going to demonstrate mobile users, it's best to use an actual mobile phone. I think using a tablet PC, while easier, wouldn't convey or translate easily to what you are selling. I'm sure a lot of business owners will think that people are carrying around Tablet PCs... I think it's important to represent the experience as authentically as possible.

I agree, in this case bigger may seem better, but demos should be done with what most people will be using and that is an actual SmartPhone.

Shop for a SmartPhone with a large screen around 4 inches.

I have the HTC Desire with the Android OS as well. According to the reviews, it is the top phone in the SmartPhone market at this time.

The Samsung Mesmerize is another good choice as is the HTC Desire HD.

Be aware that SmartPhones require data plans and pricing varies significantly between providers. But it's a small price to pay for what you get in return.

          Happy shopping,

I actually just got a report on the top phones, (best sellers) etc...

            It's from millennialmedia.com:

According to the report, by Manufacturer,

            #1: Apple iPhone
            #2: Samsung
            #3: HTC
            #4: Blackberry
            #5: Motorola
            #6: LG
            #7: Nokia
            #8: Sanyo
            #9: Kyocera
            #10: Sony Ericsson

The Top phones themselves on the market and registered are:

            #1 Apple iPhone (12.45%)
#2 Blackberry Curve 6.55% (Love this phone!)
            #3 Apple iPod Touch
            #4 HTC Nexus One (Passion)
            #5 Motorola Droid

That list contains the top 30. Blackberry is on there 5 times, Apple 3. Android has apparently taken over as the "most used" OS.

The report is here: Mobile Mix | Millennial Media (Not an affiliate or anything, I think you do have to opt in for current stuff).

Um...jealous! I wanted to be there to. I followed it pretty intensely.

Post got my attention as I have been researching for a couple of weeks, took the plunge on Saturday.

I was using my Motorola Razor for the past 4 or 5 years, kept putting off upgrading as I have a dynamite "intro" rate that I am getting, now without a contract and couldn't get myself to sign again.

I got a Samsung Captivate as well and so far I am quite liking it. I have developed four mobile websites for my clients, and I knew that I HAD to get a smartphone if I am going to do any more...

(nothing like coding "blind"...glad to report that they do look pretty nice...)

    iphone4 here.

it works perfectly fine for me. I really love the face time feature. I'm now barely spending on credits. My iphone is factory unlocked, its prepaid. I just need access to free wifi around to make phone calls using face time, and just use yahoo messenger or skype for instant messaging instead of sending text messages.

I spent quite a bit to get the unit but I'm saving a lot now while I'm using it.

I have an iPhone (4), which I love. My husband bought a Dell Streak (Droid platform) - he is in love with it. It has a 5" screen and it looks like a mini tablet; might be good for showing websites to clients. However, it is rather large. Hubby is a business manager at an auto dealership and when he got the Streak, coworkers were walking by his office holding up license plates to their ears to poke fun at how big it is.

    Good luck in your search!

In my opinion, the iphone is fairly overrated. I like to beable to change out my battery if my phone is running low. Also, I use google for all sorts of stuff for my business and android integrates with it very nicely. Plus I gotta have the full keyboard.

Iphone 4 is the way to go specially if your getting or in internet marketing, there are many business and financial apps that can help you out and offically can even run your business from your phone.

I currently use the ipad for alot of my business, it keeps the girlfriend off my back for being on the computer 24/7, some app's are amazing and come quite in handy, but there is a warning that you can get carried away too much buying apps and wasting £££ in not thousands.

Having one light weight device that can show clients mind maps, ads, videos, and other documents is great.

I've got me a "HTC Desire Z" which I think is known as the Desire G2 in the US... And I absolutely love it...
It has all the benefits of a large screen/touch screen along with a pop-out keyboard and as many app's as you will ever need from the android market place.
      The benefits are
      a) It plays flash
      b) The pop-out keyboard makes it super easy to type in whatever you want (Esp good if you're not use to a touch screen)
      c) It feels like you have a phone in your hand and not a feather...
      d) You can easily upload video to YouTube & update Twitter accounts.
      e) Oh you can swap batteries & upgrade the memory card easily to.
I've even been with a customer and updated his site from it while I was there (Wordpress Site) He was amazed and it saved me a job later.
I had a Blackberry Bold before and I can honestly say this phone beets it hands down & I'm now officially converted to the "New HTC Testament" prays be the Android

Sorry Kids...I have the G2 Google Phone...my iPhone friends ask me to look things up for them. I think its better than the HTC, my battery can also last a full day without dying.

My friend just picked up a new Audi A5... it has a built in iPhone sync cable/charger.

I looked at him with this cheesy face...

      He said...

      Classy Car... Classy Phone...

      I said...

The only reason they don't put a Droid charger is because my battery lasts all day... your's doesn't.

Pretty nice phones, I'd suggest Iphone to anyone who doesn't want to customize a phone to their liking though... androids dominate when customized, Iphones are out of the box good.

iphone 3g - what i like - it's sexy (apart from the small piece of duck tape holding the top left corner together) - what i don't like - I can inadvertently mute the phone with my ear and occasionally it turns itself off mid call.

HTC Evo. Still waiting on 4G in my area. Pretty nice phone, with large screen, but it is a battery hog for sure. Just a tad large in the hand for a phone, but it's worth it for the larger screen, which makes for better presentation. and oh yeah, can't forget the handy little kick stand for watching videos or reading hands free.

Have a Dell Inspiron Duo on the way. Google it. It's a tablet PC (like Ipad), but opens up and converts into a netbook. Really clever. Saw one on display and fell in love with it. Perfect for quick presentations to offline clients!
