Here are a few videos I put together to help you out. Perfect if you are a newbie. Although, even if you are more experienced you may still find some useful information.

Since I am hosting them on YouTube I had to break the videos up. I may end up putting one, full length video on my site at some point. But for now, they are split up.

Some notes: Probably have to turn your speaker volume up. I had major audio problems with these videos. Spent a long time trying to fix it but no luck. Slight buzz in the background.

I'll post reference points in the videos to help you...in case you don't want to watch the whole thing and would rather skip to certain parts.

  • Haven't watched 'em yet, but hit the Thanks button anyway, just for putting the time and work in and sharing.
  • Havent watched yet either (it's midnight here and I'm working on some client stuff) but I'll def check it in the morning!

Pre-thanks for taking the time to put together free content to help everyone succeed, hopefully the majority dont brush it off as "just free" but use 'em to get results. If not, I'm sure they'll be back asking the same questions about the same problems...or paying $47 for half the quality in some weird WSO =P

Keep up the great work VB!

  • Gene, thanks for taking the time to put this together.

    • Thanks.

Thanks, Dexx! Yes, hopefully the free aspect doesn't scare off people.

I could have easily taken 2 of the lead generation ideas in these videos, added a template, and maybe another thing or two and sold it as a WSO.

      You're welcome.

      Thanks Jacer.

The template - I didn't forget about it. I went to attach it and I couldn't since you can't attach Publisher files. So I'll have to upload it to my site or convert it to word (which would take awhile).

Still have to take care of that and upload another video or two. But got sidetracked with other things, sleep, and digging my car out of the snow we got last night/this morning.

Keep an eye out later today for the template and other video(s).

      No problem.
  • Wow, what a gift! Many thanks! Could you pm me your e-mail I have a couple questions for your wso. I cant pm yet because of post #.

    Thanks again,

    Tony

    • PM sent.

Btw, I added a download link for the publisher file. I updated the original post with it but just in case, here it is...

  • Hey Gene, thanks for uploading this. While I "know" most of this already, you pack tons of concise info in a very short time. In fact, I'd love to get my hands on the Powerpoint files you use for the vids !!!

This quote is indeed amazing :"Everything you desire is outside your comfort zone or else you'd have it already". I've read quite a few books and had not seen this one before.

The postcard method was actually a WSO, that's why I never openly discussed it as I'd feel I'd release "private" info, but now it's been months since he sold it so it's probably OK (don't remember whom as well even tough I bought it).

I've checked videos 1-3, and was about to see the "last one" but either I missed out many at first glance, or you've added more since then. Either way, this is great!

Thanks a lot. Your WSO is on my list of coming purchases. Unlike with IM, this time, I'll buy "offline" stuff only after I've made money, probably investing around 5-10% back in education. I know enough to make some nice dough, I just need to get off my butt and get after it (and I'm doing that since yesterday, as planned, so I'm halfway there)

    • PM me your email address and I'll send them to you.

I heard it from one of the guys I follow...he isn't in the sales/marketing/IM field.

Which postcard? The yellow page one or the google one?

The YP one I learned from another consultant...not on here. He doesn't sell WSO's.

The other one, I learned from a friend who just recently learned it. Not sure where he got it from, but I know it was NOT a WSO.

So if it was in a WSO, that person got it from someone else.

      I added 4 more today.

"Buy after you've made money" is a great idea. Smarter than "buy buy buy and never do anything." Always good to make money first and invest a small part of it back into educating yourself and becoming better. "School is never out for a pro." Best of luck!
      • [ 1 ] Thanks

    • I made mention of this offline marketing strategy in one of my WSO's
and on my postcard marketing website Offline Marketing Magnet:

Guy by the name M. H. It blew me away when I first saw it and Gene
(on this thread... see Video #3) does an awesome job using this principle. You basically
'tear the person's yellow page ad apart' ....

I called it "Insult Marketing" Ha-ha.

      Jim

P.S. I was watching CNBC special last night on 'Super Market' marketing...and one CEO lady said "part of success is knowing who to copy". There's a lot of Dan Kennedy-esqe stuff I copy in any marketing I do.... and a series of NO B. S. books.

  • The thing in IM is that it's so virtual that we almost get programmed to "seek out a better way". In consulting, it comes down to many tangible things we have direct and total control over, and one of them is certainly PROSPECTING. The thing we somehow want to avoid

Basically, there's no excuse. And the refinements and improvements we can get by learning new things are wayyyy higher after we've actually tested methods in the real world and earned some stripes with experience.

Anyway, thanks for everything Gene, I truly appreciate it!
  • Well both actually.
Who came up with what first anyway. Intellectual property on things like that is so fuzzy. And obviously, it's not because I learn something first from source XYZ that they did come out with it first, WSO or not... After a while, it's probably irrelevant anyway as it becomes "public knowledge" (if it wasn't in the first place and then packaged as a WSO) .

I'm just glad to see an experienced consultant as yourself favor lumpy mail and postcards as a prospecting method. It certainly validates that approach in my eyes. I intend to use that one to get entree level business small deals (mainly autoresponders and Google listings) and transform some of them into real consulting clients afterward. Do you ever try to get high end consulting deals directly for the direct mail method?
    • [1] reply
    • Using the first one (Yellow Pages postcard), the only thing that would really be the same is the headline. Every postcard will have a different ad on it and different "tips" about that ad. So it's not really the same. And if you change the headline, it's not really the same at all. Same concept but not the same ad. So I don't see any issues here. Not to mention when I learned it, the person gave it away freely.
  • Yes, I've known about that for some time.

    Great resource, Vagabond! Thanks.

    ~ Jacqui

Haha, I remember the first time I watched one of your videos this time last year (the lumpy mail set you did )...and discovered you are a man!
    • [1] reply
    • Haha, I think I disappointed a lot of male Warriors when I released those videos.

If I was female and looked like that, I wouldn't be hanging out on a forum trying to make it in IM. I'd be modeling somewhere.

That avatar is Adriana Lima, btw.

I'll triple check the link again.

      You're welcome.
  • This is great. Thank you for taking the time to put this together and post it up!
  • Again, I'm sorry to ask, but I sure would like to receive this information. I do have Publisher. Here is the message I get from the link:

I could download it ok, but it wouldn't open in Publisher for some reason. Not sure what is wrong.

But just to let you and everyone else know, I edited the webpage so you should be able to download the file from there now if you want. I tried it on my computer and it worked.

  • Wow, better then some of the WSO's I've purchased!

Thanks for the taking the time to make these videos.
  • I'm sending this back to the top as many people might have not seen this yet.

Great, concise, FREE advice on how to grow your business (and manage yourself).

  • Gene,

Loved your example about the Bostonian Shoes-- The easiest prospect to sell is another salesperson. They are just soooo easy!

  • Awesome adive, like said above you've provided more valuable content for "FREE"
Than some folks would sell for $47

Oh and by the way I purchased your mind map a couple of week back and it's a great product and I no it will prove most valuable inmy business over the coming months/years.

One last thing I would also be interested in the excel file, is this something we can get for free?

    Thanks

    ~Bryan

    • Hi Bryan,

Thanks for the kind words and thanks for investing in my mind map a few weeks back.

And yes, PM me your email address and I will send you the Excel file.
  • Thanks again for the spreadsheet. It's a wonderful resource.
I am even more grateful to you for introducing me to Paul Lemberg.
He's in my neck of the woods...so to speak. Did some research on him.
His coaching and speaking rates rival Jay Abraham. It seems like he was
    mentored by him.

The best lesson was how he has positioned himself. Getting there...slowly.

    • I'm going through your videos now, and have subscribed to your YT channel!

As for the publisher file, I don't have this particular MS product pre-installed, thus besides upgrading/buying said product, do you know of any free alternatives that would allow me to view the file?

  • Respect dude!!!

What a contribution... you could have easily made that into product, and its actually much better than most products and with more marketing principals than most "offline marketing courses" out there!!!

And thats why eventually most people fail, they have a system handed to them but no knowledge about its foundations.
