2011: The Year of Mobile Marketing

I have seen several different publications mention that they thought 2011 will be the year Mobile Marketing comes to the forefront. Here is one article that talks about it as well as covers the new Google Mobile Keyword Tool.

If you haven't used it yet, you can do keyword research based on specific device used for the search including different types of mobile devices. This can be great info if you are offering any kind of mobile marketing services for your clients.

    No problem Jodi, to be honest I haven't gotten into the whole mobile options in the past like I should have. I do see tons of potential with it though. You can create a decent mobile site fairly easily with all the different templates and tools that are out there now.

    I think what you can charge depends a lot on the business you're offering it to, but the mark up on your end no matter what should be pretty decent as the site should be fairly easy to create.

    I also think you will see more and more businesses going for it this year as they are getting more comfortable with the idea and are seeing the trends with all the smartphones. It can be a great lead in to other services as well, which is always a good thing. I think the transition from creating a mobile site and showing them how adding Foursquare and Facebook to their marketing could be a pretty easy one.

    Let me know how it goes. I am sure there are a lot of other more experienced mobile marketers on here that can hopefully help with some tips for you as well.

      Check out HTML version 5. It has a feature that has been enabled in smartphone browsers for Small Screen Rendering (SSR). This will actually make the .mobi sites redundant. All that needs to be done is update clients' websites.

        Is it time to ditch my .mobi's? I only have a few but I haven't kept up with it all. I know that we just modified our vbulletin forum with a iphone/android style chooser and it makes it fit nicely on those, so that's one down.

          Speaking of vBulletin, we will be releasing an application that will let you publish your own custom made app in the app store.

    I'm actually surprised they're saying its a "new tool"....

    I've been using it for about five or six months now, they simply didn't have it in a drop down, they had it as a "checkbox" for mobile to filter exclusively that.

    But it's a great tool.
