A restaurant made a video 6 days ago, and 600+ hits already?

Hi guys,

Just doing some cold calling around to restaurants to see if they would be interested in a service where they get a video of their restaurant online and on the first page of Google. Interestingly, one of them replied that they already have a video, and that it has 600+ hits already in 6 days and they seemed to be quite 'happy' with it.

Now, my question is: how is this possible? With a couple hundred restaurants in my city, there is a lot of competition. Is it even possible that this restaurants video (just slideshow) got so many hits in 6 days?

I checked the URL in google to see where it might have some of its backlinks, and I could not find much at all. It also is not ranking on Google for the restaurants name, etc.

Are these views being generated (perhaps to help with ranking?)

Have you seen the video itself? Is it a Youtube video, or is it posted on Facebook. If the restaurant already has a decent Facebook Page and has a lot of fans the video could have been posted there and got the hits they were talking about. There are ways to get the views without ranking well in Google.

Thats as simple as getting an automated program: Youtube Automator - post automated comments and vote on youtube

View and traffic = SQUAT until sales are generated.

    600 views + 0 sales = Meh

    10 views + 8 sales = Happy Business Owners

You want to be Option B...and educate them on Option A's false riches

    Thanks for your replies guys!

You're right Dexx, I want sales, not just views. Views are nothing without conversions.

But I guess if they are naive, then they are happy with just the views (their loss). But I was still kind of interested as to how they even got the views. Do any of you know if having more views directly or indirectly helps the video rank for it's keywords, or not really?

      I agree with Dexx,

Unless there video is converting what use is that video?

Also it is great to have video and to use it for the marketing of their business. But it needs to be marketed and placed in the rite areas for it to be of use to them...

It sounds like they have be hit with a touch of click blindness as I call it... it's a common mistake with non-marketers especially business owners who think just because they have had loads of clicks that's great.

The real trick is to use this example with the customers you are trying to get & tell them I can get you a thousand clicks but not one will convert or I could get you 100 click & 10 bookings.. What one do you think they will jump at?

I don't think views would have any effect on ranking for the videos. I say that without having done any research, other than looking at the YouTube suggestions for a search. When you do a search the suggestions do not automatically rank the videos by views, you have to force it to rank them that way.

So I expect that means it is based on keyword relevancy to the search.

Also views to their video does not mean they are unique. If the video is funny maybe the same 60 people came to view it 10 times each, or something to that effect anyway.

I agree with Dexx on the conversions issue. Check out their video and then call them back. Congratulate them on the number of views their video has achieved. Then ask them how many of those views have turned into a customer?

Now you open the door to your service of turning that video into a profit machine, and to explain how to track conversions for it.
