How I made $1600 within 72 hours of being in OFFLINE MARKETING

How I made $1600 within 72 hours of being in the OFFLINE MARKETING BUSINESS!

Wasn't it Zig Ziglar that said, "If you help someone across the pond, you can't help but get there yourself?"

Now you know my motivation for right this super long post. Here is what I promise not to do…

I promise not to share anything other than my own experience. If I do… I will tell you about it. There is no way in good conscience I could sit here and tell you stuff that is not fact based, and/or experience based. If someone else’s experiences are shared in this report, they will totally get the credit for it.
One of the problems I see with so many of the WSO’s that are out there?
They are re-writes of someone else’s material with absolutely no experience behind them. Or… they are someone’s just straight out B.S… An opinion based on conjecture. I will not share my opinion with you in this report. I will only share my experience. Opinions are really useless unless you have your own experience behind them.

Why do I say this?

Because… I grew up in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is the middle of the Bible Belt of the United States and people from that region are essentially good. Or at least they seem to have good motives, yet fall short of their chosen ideals on occasion. Being an “okie” made me start to take people at face value. Even on the internet. Maybe it’s because I make it a point to live by the principles of honesty and integrity, that I think everyone else does too.

That being said… I took what was being shared with me at face value and later found out this guy was a hack. A professional marketer who actually only said he had the experience he was sharing with me. After a short period, I started asking myself… why is his way not working? And more importantly, why is this person telling me this?

Needless to say… This guy is no longer around.
If you want to be successful in the online/offline arena, my first words should be… just be honest.

“My Karma will run over your Dogma!”

All over the internet and all over these forums you will find all these references to the “Law of Attraction”. Like attracts like… water seeks it’s own level… however you want to phrase it. I have found that if I am honest and forthcoming, it just so happens the people around me will be the same way.

So… Who am I?

Ok… Let’s get to it… Who am I? Hi… My name is Louie. You may know me as Amir Luis on the WF. Amir is actually my first name, a Persian name meaning prince, though I am not Persian, nor a prince. Growing up in the Midwest made it difficult having a Persian name so I just always went by Louie.

I have been in the offline marketing arena for about 8 years off and on. The thing is… I didn’t even know it. Offline Marketing as we define it today is combining your internet marketing savvy and mixing it with traditional marketing for the “brick and mortar” business. Back in 2002 I started the Re-Cell Technologies Corporation. What we did, was buy used cell phones in the offline world, then sell them online. Whether it be through secret trade related websites, or through open forums like eBay.

The whole business model was based on what we call today “offline marketing”. A sort of hybrid between the old and the new.
Then I started a window cleaning company. You know… squeegees and buckets. The main focus of that company was high end residential. Follow the money. The way I grew that business 50% annually was via internet marketing. Combining the internet with the other marketing streams ofcourse. But according to my tracking and split testing. The internet is where the majority of my business came from.

Once again mixing the old with the new.

Really… offline consultants should beware that “the Phone Book” is not dead.
Why do I say this? Because I have a really good friend who is a Sales Manager for Yellow Book. What I lovingly like to call ‘Big Bird’. Yes… the print aspect of the phone book is dead. They know it. You know it. Everyone knows it.

What you may not know is YellowBook, Dexx, Verizon, Fiest, etc. Whatever you may have in your local area if not all, do 360 marketing. They give away print yellow page ads to get you to do SEO. YellowBook360 has partnered with Google. One of the 7 companies in the world that have a partnership with Google. So when algorithims change. They know. They are ahead of the curve.

So if your marketing strategy is to defeat yellow book yet you don’t want to cold call. You might be screwed. If your lead list comes directly from the Yellow Book because you know they are advertising. You might be screwed.

This is a little known secret that is never talked about in the Offline Marketing Community. Companywide YellowBook360 builds 15,000 websites a month.

You know how they do it? Cold calling… Do you really not want to cold call now? What do they do? They prospect over the phone. Set an appointment, and then make a sale. Why? Because it works!

It has been said that imitation is the kindest form of flattery. If you want to be successful, you have to do what successful people do… right?

So this begs the question…. Why wouldn’t you mix the old with the new too? What I am talking about specifically here is… if you haven’t guessed.

Cold calling.

Every person I know that is successful. Every single one…

Has the ability to do what they hate to do.

That is what separates the men from the boys.
That being said… I know a former mentor of mine, Tom Pace - who's book you can pick up at Barnes and Noble, “the Kid and the CEO” always preached....

"The most important word in the english language is... Action."

So if you are not willing to take action... I don't know why you are reading this soon to be a report in post format. I would rather surround myself around people that are successful. People that don't take action, and aren't willing to do what other people won't do... get food stamps and unemployment benefits.

I don’t know about you… but I do not want to attract an hourly wage.
In all honesty... I really don't care for cold calling... But I will damned if it doesn't work. When the chips are down... I have bills due and no money coming in.... I can pick up the phone and go get that money. I'm not even really a good telemarketer. I fumbled my way through a lot of it. Then I got conditioned to be able to make calls with ease...

The first few times were very awkward… but I did it anyway.

Thank God for thetelemarketingforum and all its members.

Those guys held my hand and walked with me until I made some money. I had $0. And some bills due... It was taking WAYYYY too much time to get a list ready using Google... Newspaper ads... and the other entire BS opinions you here put out on these forums that someone read somewhere and preach it as gold.

I sold my Blackberry on Craigslist. I got a list and a cost effective auto dialer... and went at it. Starting with nothing and having my back against the wall with no job and no foreseeable income.

Within 21/2 days I made $1600. Money in the bank!

After all the crap I had done trying to do anything but cold call.

When I just did it, it worked.

I wonder how much money the people made that were clipping ads and circling it, saying they could help, then wasting money on stationary envelopes and stamps in those two and 1/2 days?

Even when I thought cold calling, and telemarketing (mixing the old with the new mind you) wasn't working... when my mind was telling me to give it up. I kept pushing forward no matter what. On Black Friday.... I took the day off. I got a call from a guy that I contacted over a month before. He ended up giving me $500 that day and agrees to the $230 per month I am charging his credit card. $100 of that goes to the guy that is actually doing the work. All I did was make some calls a month ago.

Is it always that easy? Nope.

But.... If you keep cold calling even when you don't need to... You will fill your sales funnel. Then out of the blue someone will shoot you an extra $500 while you’re sitting on your couch watching reruns and recuperating from a Turkey Hangover.

True story

The reason I know this works….

My first day calling... My 3rd or 4th phone call was an appointment for my first $1500 client... I screwed up... I sold him the farm for really cheap. Originally I sold him a website at $1000 with all of the bells and whistles.
Really… I was nervous and full of fear. I really didn’t know what I was doing. I just walked into the appointment with nothing but a smile, and walked out with a check. Knowing before I went in… “I got this!”

Then after working together for a little while and letting him see in live action my attention to detail. He said to me, “We will gladly pay you $1500.” Now… I don’t know if this is because I try to live my life by good principles… But if you ask me… the “law of attraction” was at work here.

Under Promise... Over Deliver...
not...
Over Promise... Over Deliver....

We all have to learn somehow....

So DAY ONE of my cold calling Rags to Riches Success Story....

200 dials.... 70 intros.... only a few actual pitches... No hard closes over the phone.... 3 appointments set...

One guy didn't have the time but repeated himself and I quote... "I would be VERY interested in you coming by and talking to me about this."

I bolded that to represent the inflection in his voice... yeah... that's a deal on lockdown in my book.... Out of all the calls made I never had anyone hang up on me. Or say anything negative at all really… But that one… I got goosebumps over...

That was the guy I sold the website to for $1500…..

So how much money do you make now?

I actually have been averaging about $1,500-$2,000 per week. How? Selling websites to small business owners as a “loss leader.” Really that is a low ball figure. Sometimes it’s $4,500… Sometimes it’s $1,500. Yet never less than $1500 though… I could do more… but a part time effort gets part time pay.

I usually get so caught up in the Technical side of things that I just forget to call... Then I get my back against the wall and start dialing my heart out.

Set a few appointments...

Get a sale...

Then focus on the techie crap that I know nothing about.

When I first started in offline marketing, I had only made websites for me.... now I am a bona fide pro...

This is why I sell websites with initial contact of a potential client.

Really offering a website is the best way to sell SEO. Selling a website or a re-design opens the door and gets them started and presold for other Offline Marketing Products. You are given the opportunity to start them with a good "On Page Optimized" site that is ready to rock once you add some "Off Page SEO". Making your job so much easier on the back end. As we all know… 80% of your business comes from 20% of your customers.

So you can develop the relationship from start to finish. What started me using this approach is…

When I called offering SEO or anything else IM related, they would say… “I don’t have a website.” When I called offering a website, some said they had one. Others said they didn’t. It kept the door open… making an opportunity out of every phone call.

This way, when you initially call... if they already have a website you can go straight to SEO or Social Media. This gives you options to at least go out swinging with each and every prospect. I figured this out after about 2 days (1/2days I’m lazy) of calling...

So I started offering Social Media and Email Capture Services. I thank God for the forums. (Thanking God is my thing. I don’t mean to offend. If you don’t like that… you can thank whomever you please.)

The reason I am thankful to the forums is I am too busy to do SEO myself. So I can offer services I know nothing about and flip it to a trusted source on the forums! Yepper..... a no brainer. 50% of something is better than 100% of nothing.

So what do you say if they already have a website?

"That's great ________ I am glad you are happy with it. What's your web address and email? I'll take a look at your website and send you a free report on any possible marketing improvements that might be beneficial to you."

Send a report, wait 24 hours, then call back and offer SEO and Social Media Packages....

That's just what I have been doing... So far so good.

By the way...

You will get alot of people that say they have a website and when you go for the SEO, they balk. I am pretty sure they are lying about having a website.
One thing you have to remember about getting offline clients!

Remember, getting offline clientele is sales. You have to sell your services to those in need. Anyone who has ever been in sales knows. BUYERS ARE LIARS! Straight up. We are offering a solution to their problem and they are lying or in complete delusion about what the problem is. Then people say salespeople are liars.... while there are some. For the most part.... we are good people. The Buyer is the one doing all the lying. We are just here to educate and inform while providing a solution. That being said… Now let’s move on…

So Let’s Talk About the Numbers….
Let’s say… the only thing you are offering in your offline consulting business is websites. Set aside for the moment all of the other aspects of your internet marketing skills. Even if you don’t know how to do websites and you are a killer SEO or Social Media person. I have a solution for you there too.
I go into every call with the primary purpose of selling a website. If other opportunities arise, then I pursue that avenue.
But for now… My unique selling proposition is marketing oriented content on direct response websites.

Anyone can build a site... but is it worth cost of hosting? Is it bringing in new business?

Let's say you didn't get greedy with your web design services....

Let's say you only charged $299 + $29.99 per month hosting and maintenance for a 5 page website... You outsource it to someone for $200.
Why? Because you want someone with a solid and proven marketing background to give you a Unique Selling Proposition compared to the other web guys out there.

What do you get out of the deal?

You get $100 from every sale after you outsource the work, which you can use to pay yourself or other proven telemarketers. You also get $30 per month for “hosting and maintenance” from here on out. That's $360 per year. Per client! You wouldn’t believe how fast this adds up.
Putting the money aspect aside…

This is what you really get.

You get more time to focus on what counts... bringing in more clients and helping the ones you have. The more websites you sell, the more you get in residual income from hosting, and the more warm leads you have for other marketing services. You aren't in the web design business. You’re in the hosting and internet marketing business. Website sales are just a way for you to get paid… to find qualified leads.

You have established that you are their "Web Specialist" when they need ANYTHING internet related. They will call you. Or you can get proactive and call them.... immediately after they are completely satisfied with their new online presence. You can call back and let them know...

"Hey Bill. Glad you like your site... Now you and I both now, it isn't going to do you much good without TRAFFIC... Did you know Google just changed the algorithm which tells them who to put at the top of search results?"

BAMMM.... Google Places and SEO listings SOLD! More money for you. All because you gave them a good deal on a website.

EDIT: The second half of this is further down the page if you want to read more.... Script included.

so your giving away your WSO for free?

That's dope. I honestly think there should be a sticky thread in this forum with WSO's that are free that have been posted here.

Brenden (DrivenForMillions) posted one a while back that was grade A material.

Thank you for starting this thread and sharing your story. It is helpful. Although I'm an accomplished designer, marketer and publisher, I've struggled to make web design a profitable part of my business. That's not easy to admit. I can talk it all day long, plan a site strategy for content and marketing in minutes, get the contract out and add them to our online ticket system to submit their content but putting it in a proposal, selling it and then dealing with the hand holding to guide them trips me up.

9 times out of 10 a prospect does not know what they want, let alone know what they are even purchasing and I'm asked for a quote without any defined scope of services. If they want to compare my package and price with others they require too much time to educate.

What's attractive about what I've been reading here (not the cold calling) is the "system" and monthly fees small business can afford. It helps me to think how I can improve the product.

Really... just between you me and the tree...

I don't really care for doing web design....

For everything that you mentioned Creative Girl. I have moved in a different direction where I still sell them if I have to, or I can give them away if they take my other packages.

Don't get me wrong.... webdesign is what gave me a start in this business. I didn't really know to much about web design when I started either.

You really don't need to with sources like wordpress, and some practical experience.

Taking the Costco approach to web design has opened several other doors for me.

I mean... a website isn't going to do you any good without any traffic right?

I am in the traffic gettin' business. The money I make off of websites is just a bonus. Oh... and the $30 a month doesn't hurt my feelings either.

What a way to get a lead... Get paid.. to get leads.....

    That's just good business.

I get most of my business from cold calling. Yes it sucks at first, but after you get used to doing it, it's not so bad. Thanks for this post, it has also given me some new ideas. I would love to know when you post your new stuff.

Its a little uncomfortable but it is SUREFRE!

Its the way that you KNOW you are gonna make some money.

I have been desperate before and Cold calling saved my butt when I didnt have anything but a pad, a pen, a telephone book, and the warrior forum to find a webdesigner to fulfill the sales...LOL!

If you read the "What to do if you're desperate" thread , you will see that George Wright used the same idea when his back was against the wall and pulled it through, only he did it door to door.

There are more than a handful of warriors here who did the same thing when their back was against the wall and pulled themselves out of desperation and into prosperity... aside from NUMEROUS stories of people on my forum who came when their utilities were all looming and mortgage... They all started cold calling small business, and miraculously pulled through before the fat lady sang on them!

They Said "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO"! You will not sing on my family!

...and they picked up the phone and decided to do something about it! Something NOT hypothetical!

So its not exactly the most well kept secret on the warrior forum that flipping a couple of offline deals can save your ass when everything is closing in you... I personally think you have a lot better chance making a few thousand like that from a "phone booth", than you would trying to build a list from nothing to pay your electric bill in a crunch time...

Cold calling has proven for more than a few warriors to be the BEST advice, when they were desperate and needed to generate money fast.

      Anyway,

Luis is a master at it... he has the same story I do, it pulled him out of a desperate position when his back was against the wall... and he just kept going and going and didnt look nack! Truly an inspiration.

Cold calling for offline business is the only SUREFIRE way I know, that even if you dont have ANTHING but a phone and a phone booth, you can pull yourself up from desperation to prosperity virtually overnight.

I know alot of people get tired of hearing me "Yapping" about this, but since I have been quite a few people have went from a bleak desperate outlook to a bright prosperous opne...

So I am gonna keep telling people what works, and despite the skeptics, I am gonna keep seeing new people rise to prosperity everyday while others are still living in a hypothetical dream world!

      Luis is the same way.

He wants to see people set free from failure... so he talks about what ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT FAIL!!!

      Great post Luis!

      AWESOME!

Now that you have one person interested... the best thing to do is get three more. And then three more, and then three more....

Here is why I say that.... first off... three is not an insurmountable task. It's a small number.

Also... if you count on one deal you have working, you will be disappointed if it falls through. But if you have 6 deals working at any given time.... you won't care if 4 of them fall through.

      Why?

Because you got the two that didn't. It is purely a numbers game here.

The best time to get the second is right after the first.

As far as those feelings... I can totally relate. That is how I felt to the T. Just based on the fact that you did it. You walked through those insecure thoughts and fears of the unknown.

I KNOW you have what it takes to be successful.

The good thing is.... now that you walked through those temporary feelings. It is ALL down hill from there. You will never have to feel that way again.

A Long time ago as a young TM manager... the owner of the company asked to see my to do list for the day.

I proudly handed it to him thinking he would be impressed. I had 20 things on it!

        He said "What is this"?

Im like " Thats all the stuff I am gonna do today".

He proceeded to explain to me how HE saw my list.

He said "If you have that much to do, then you havent been getting anything done...".

He proceeded to give me a lesson, on how you should only have a few things on your list each day that are "key" things and focus all your energy only on whats most important, and that anything beyond 7 things on your list is probably "busy" work.

I learned from that, and today I never have more than seven things on my list.

Usually its three, which brings me to the point of this post.

        Luis is right

So.........for all the skeptical people out there, check this out:

-made about 13 calls (very bad I know and will IMPROVE).
-made 2 appointments for tomorrow (website creation)
-1 person wants me to calls back after 3 weeks as they formulate their marketing plan
-1 person wants an email with more information

Rest of the calls were not my target as they were not interested, owner was not there, and phone numbers were out of service.

All in all I'm happy and looking to knock down a $1000 tomorrow with $50 in recurring fees for hosting. I will also fill the funnel extensively tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to my appointments and another learning curve for me!

Man this stuff works! Luis and John know what they are talking about!

I'm not in a position to give any advice but if their is one: JUST DO IT! Stop thinking to make everything perfect and JUST DO IT! Stop searching for the best script or the best pitch and etc.

If someone REJECTS you, just say "Well not a problem but if you ever want to make MORE profit, give me a shout! Have a nice day.

I'm a postman in the UK and today I met a lady who's very friendly, posting leaflets.

She saw me first and started to chat. She is in the health and beauty business, and she asked me if I wanted a leaflet for my wife, or for myself . I asked her if she had a website? To which she said "No". I said I can help you with that.

She is interested and I need to make contact with her via Facebook to keep the interest alive.

This post is very encouraging and I am hopeful that it will happen. Not sure how to open it up for long term but contacting her is the first step.

Thanks Amir for this post, I hope I can do the business (All advice is welcome - BIG TIME!)

So How do I make this grow?

So you get a few people banging the phones... You are selling 10 websites a day... but you really are not making that much money on each one... SO what?

With 5-6 TM's which are easy to find on Craigslist. And they average 2 a day (if they don't their fired).... Your sales costs are covered... But you have $300 per month coming in from that ONE DAY of sales.

Now there is an average of 20 working days per month. So... month two of covering your costs, and not trying to get instant gratification with a high ticket item. Gives you $6000 and you get your costs covered from all the sales you are making this month.

Month 3 is $12,000 pure profit.... because your costs are covered in the initial sale..... Now... what if you charged $599?

          You do the math.

What do you have to do? Pick up the phone call some people... introduce yourself... and ask if they want what you got...

You do the sales... and outsource the technical aspect. Straight and simple.

You have just been given a business model that works. I know... because it is what I do.

You get the freedom of only worrying about sales.... and not having to know anything about website design or development.

You get the ability to build and manage your sales team and not have to de-focus on technical stuff...

You get the opportunity to make more money while helping those in need! (business owners NEED your help)

You can relax and take it easy...... I started calling all day... then making sites all night.... do you want to do that?

I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. With the website creation services out there... you can just focus on what is important, bringing in more money for you and your loved ones.

I actually started selling websites at the $599 price point. Sometimes… just by listening to their needs and not my own. I sell $3,000 websites.

Don’t get greedy! Here is why…

You remember me mentioning that Big Bird (yellowbook) is not dead?
You can spend all day calling to make a couple of sales at $599 for a simple 5 page website. Or… you can sell them at $299 and $30 per month hosting and sell 4-5 per day. Why?

YellowBook360 gives away 5 page websites to small business owners for Free! Then they charge them $79 per month for hosting. They use free website design as a loss leader to gain the client, build rapport, then pitch $5,000 per month Local SEO packages.

What does this mean to you? You can tell your potential client that you want to save them money and beat up Big Bird all at once!

“I could offer you a free site with $79 per month hosting and maintenance (just like those guys at YellowBook) if you want. But really… I like you better than that. Let me build you a 5 page direct response marketing oriented website for $299. This basically just covers my cost. Then the monthly hosting and maintenance charge you will pay is only $29.99. Sound fair?”

“I could give you a free site and charge you $79 per month… but you and I both know that isn’t how it really works. If you really break it down. You would almost pay $600 PER YEAR extra for the same website that I can do for $299.”

“Really only $299 down saves you a lot of money in the long run. It’s a no brainer. If you would like… I can get started on that today and have it ready by this time next week. Or if you want… I can give you the option.

I can do the same deal as “YellowBook” and you can pay me an extra $600 per year, Either way, I can do your website for you. Which one do you think sounds better?”

“Great ______. I think that’s a wise choice… do you have your credit card in front of you?”

          Done… and Done…

That is the way you get your foot in the door when you have yellow page ad reps who aren’t afraid to cold call running up and down the street selling the same services we do.

Really you could take those last two paragraphs and make a whole new business model. What if you called people and said… “I can give you a 5 page website for free and $79 per month hosting?”

How many do you think you could sell in a day? 4… 5…?

At $948 per year in residual revenue… if you can afford to do the work upfront or outsource it for that matter, can you imagine $5,000 per day first year, in residual revenue that compounds each day, because you gave something away for free?

          I can.

Maybe that is why YellowBook does 15,000 websites a month.

          Moving on…

Now that you know how to beat up Big Bird, and you know the value of cold calling if you plan to be successful in offline marketing. Let’s look at the proven tried and tested script that works….

When I first started… I bought Offline on Crack / The Telemarketing War Report by John Durham. My original script came from that report. I actually am really grateful I bought that report. John Durham gave me a new pair of glasses when it came to telemarketing and cold calling.

The script I am about to give you came from the forum we both belong to. I basically cut and paste a bunch of good scripts together to make it my own. I had a girl start calling for me last week and she made two sales with it her second day. She knows nothing of web design or internet marketing, and she has never been a “phone sales person”.

So if you don’t think it will work…. I beg to differ.

          Here it is…

          Website Script

Hi Bob, this is ________ with iQ Media , you may have heard of us. We are one of the nations premier small business web development companies, offering affordable professional website packages to business owners like yourself.

I was just wondering do you folks have a website for your company already, or is it something you had been considering?

"Oh okay great... the reason I was asking was because..."

Now: 1: Go into web design pitch or 2: Seo Pitch....

          Web Design

For a limited time we are offering a discounted test campaign for small business owners to see if internet marketing could work for you... most people charge an arm and a leg for a simple web design but right now we are doing 5 page direct response, search engine friendly, and smart phone friendly websites for a one time shot for you at $599 + $30 per month for hosting and maintenance.

It's usually $899 but in an effort to earn your business and show you what we can do we are running this special this week only... It’s a fact that more people carry a cell phone with them than a computer... so this enables your customers to find and contact you in real time as opposed to waiting for them to get home and look in one of the many phone books.

Anyway Bob… I’d love to go ahead and see if we can’t get your phone ringing off the hook with new business if you wanna give it a shot… Sound like a winner?

          Bob says…

What do I need to do? How do we get started?

          You say…

Okay bob, its pretty simple let me just ask a few questions... What kind of colors are you wanting on your site? Great And What services do you want listed on your site? Okay great

And do you want us to put a form on your site so your visitors can contact you for a free consultation, or just a phone number?

Okay great… actually we will do both… And what email box to you want to form to submit?

Okay great, And by the way did you want to list any information on your site about your staff?

Alright, also, Are you going to want to offer corporate email addresses for all of your staff members, so they can have proper representation when dealing with your web customers...? Awesome, we can do that...

Okay Bob, we can write a bunch of good content based on what you’ve given me here, I think I understand how we need to approach this. Do you have any questions or comments?

Okay great. Like I said we will have you up and running within 7 days, if you want we can go ahead and get started. Now we offer two payment options...
We can do it for $499 with 30 days free hosting if you pay it all today… or… a $300 deposit at the full special price of $599, and the rest on delivery. Either one is fine…which one of those is gonna work best for you?

Ok Bob, you got a pen handy? I’m gonna give you my email and number here. My email address is ______. And the number here in the office is XXX-XXX-XXXX.

Got it? Now as far as billing goes, we prefer to handle it electronically by either Visa or Mastercard. Which of those is gonna be best for you today?”
Wait for them to answer; be silent. “Ok, great, have you got that in front of you?”

Proceed to collect credit card info with 3 digit CVV code and billing address and enter it into the form.

“Alright Bob, I think I have all I need. Listen, before I hang up I want to remind you to check your email within 20 minutes or so for important information regarding the process of your order. Ok?

Alright, well it was great meeting you. You have my contact info, so if you have any questions, comments, or concerns be sure to contact us and we’ll be glad to assist. Have a great day.”

This script you have just been given are GOLDEN.

Be sure to thank John Durham on the forum when you see him. He is the mastermind behind these. Better yet… Join TheTelemarketingForum
Then thank him there and sop up all the valuable and free resources!

A few recent objections over the phone

All of my "non-closes" this week and last week were due to one thing.
          I dropped the ball.

Every single non close has a common denominator. Me. If for whatever reason I could not get them on track with me what do I do?

Isolate the objection... "so _______, what your telling me is the only thing keeping you from letting me get started today is, you need to talk to your partner?"

"Do you have three way on your phone? Let's go ahead and get them on the horn so I can tell them exactly what I told you."

"You don't have three way on your business line?"

"What's your partners name? ummhum... and their phone number? I'm gonna go ahead and let you go ________. I'm sure your busy and I respect your time, though I may be calling you back shortly to get some more information after calling ________, fair enough?"

If you isolate the objection... no matter what the objection is... You can destroy it. If not... there are several books you can purchase that will teach you to dominate every objection.

I can’t sell… Do you think I can do this business?

“Bear in mind, if you are going to amount to anything, that your success does not depend upon the brilliance and the impetuosity with which you take hold, but upon the ever lasting and sanctified bull doggedness with which you hang on after you have taken hold."
          Quote found on FaceBook

I worked on a B movie one time in the Art Department building sets and doing stuff like that. I ran into Paul Newman on the set.... He said to me in a casual conversation...

"You know what it takes to make it in this business, Tenacity. Talent is optional."

It doesn't matter what business you are in... just keep your head down and keep going and you will get there.

When I am on the phones everyday... I close deals everyday...

          Straight up.

Then I would get large site project that was more than I can really handle...

I would be on the phone about 1 full work day out of the week. The rest I would be working on the technical stuff, distracted and guilt ridden. Knowing I should be on the phone, and losing money minute by minute.

I wish I would have discovered the power of outsourcing when I first started. Then I wouldn’t have had those lapses in my income.

There has been only two times since I first started in the Offline Business that I have ever sold less than $2,000

The point really is... you don't have to be a salesman...

The numbers will do the selling for you. You just have to do it.

If you can read… and you can just keep your head down and keep going. You will get new clients and make money this week. You don’t need to be a salesperson. You don’t need to be anything but what you already are.

The point I was trying to make above is… when I stop making calls, I stop making money. I have a person that is totally new and knows absolutely nothing of internet marketing or web design… She makes sales. So why can’t you?

The ball is now officially in your court.

Before I let you get started making money by finishing this report. If you are worried about your sales abilities… quit it. The best advice ever given to me in my short 35 years of existence…

          “Don’t think… Just Do!”

It is only by doing that I learn. Maybe I am just hard headed that way. I didn’t mind writing this report because I know 99% of you will read this and say it is not for me. Those of you that take action with the resources made available in this report… will succeed. Not a single doubt in my mind.

If you are still worried about your sales ability even though you know it is just a numbers game. Knowing that if I call 500 people consistently and not break my rhythm, I will make money! The only ability required is tenacity.

Everything else will come to you as you do it.

If you are still in doubt… then I suggest you read the best sales book EVER....
"The Selling Bible" by John Lawhorn or Lawhon… can’t remember. This book is currently out of print. But I am sure you can find it at your local used book store.

Don't mistake the newer in print version penned by some other name. Not the same book at ALL.

          In closing,

I hope you make every call with the thought... "This is the ONE!!!"

Eventually... it will be the one... and you will find, "the one call that makes the sale", comes a lot more often than when you started.

I wish you the best in all you do, and thank you for taking the time to read this report. And remember…

          Don’t Think… Just Do.

This post is worth more than many of the courses for sale online. too many times, especially here in the Warrior Forum, I read people saying that they don't want to interact with the prospect. They are looking for that magic pill that will draw customers to them without having to find them.

If that pill existed, it would have been common knowledge a long time ago.

Unfortunately, it takes WORK. And, Louie (and some of the rest of the thread) has just provided a concise training module that could/should be taken to the bank.

Thanks for the insight, Louie. It's a good refresher and a "come-down-to-earth" look at the real way business is run. We're fortunate in that we have the opportunity to sell once and get paid many times. I'd hate to be the car salesman or real estate agent that has to start over again each time they have a sale.

Thank you Luis for posting that additional information and script.

I find that as you get into you develop your own rhythm, same as selling advertising or doing research for a product or service you would use.

Question about the direct response website you are selling - do you provide the content or do you expect the customer to provide it? And do you use a contract?

Content has been such a stumbling block for customers and cheap web design does not include it. Second, I've learned the hard way to have a detailed contract and to use an online ticket system for all our web customers, new and maintenance.

How do you handle the liability?

Its best to do a questionnaire with your clients, and write their content based on that as well as keywords you pick for them. They will never get the material to you most times, if you wait on them to do it.

I don't use an online ticket system... maybe that is why I get so FRUSTRATED sometimes. :p

Yes.. John really hit the nail on the head. They never really do get around to getting back to you.

If you ask the right questions while you have them on the phone you can get it covered. The MAIN question... "what sets you apart from your competition?" What is your USP?

That is very important for writing direct response marketing oriented content. You can also have some of the Warriors For Hire right the content if you really wanted to.

The main elements are to have

an Eye Catching Headline that grabs thier attention and provokes thought.

features and benefits of what the target demographic feels good and bad.

build value while establishing authority through the USP.

a compelling offer.... one that gives them a reason to follow the calls to action.

      a Solid Guarantee...

and a MULTIPLE calls to action. Usually Hitting them in the face with calls to action right at the top converts a better ROI.

      Just sayin.

Can't over emphasize the value of the online ticket system, especially in web services. It shut down the millions of emails with non-descript subjects, lengthy phone calls and office visits. It really protects everyone, and maintenance customers seem to love it the most. We use mantis.

Thanks for your post today on offline marketing. That's exactly what I'm trying to get going on in my city. I just graduated college and obviously the market isn't that wonderful for finding a typical corporate job. Here's my question; where do you outsource your web work to? I've been searching around for 5 page static sites on places like elance and freelancer, but having been able to find anythnig in this $299 price range you're talking about. Any suggestions?

Sorry if this is a "trade secret" I'm a newbie at this stuff.

    Thanks, god bless

Well Just to provide an update on what happen after i read and decided i needed to do something to make some money. I had seen Johns thread, Then I saw Amirs thread they actually got me to get up and start doing something

    heres the result:

I ended up meeting the client and his wife at their home.

He told me about his business, what his goals were then proceeded to show me what kind of sites he liked.

I took down some notes, on what they were looking for.

    I quoted them a price of $599.99

    He agreed on the price.

I asked for a 15% deposit to get things started.

He cut me a check :

I'm sure I should have charged a lot more and and a bigger deposit...But for being my first appointment I was pretty glad I actually made something happen.

I decided to get something done after reading Amir Luis thread 1600-within-72-hours. And also reading John Durhams Thread 50k a year thread

    Thanks Amir, and John

      That is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really like that you decided to post ads too.

I am a firm believer that you should have at LEAST five marketing streams going at any given time.

That way... if one falls short of your chosen ideal. You have the others that will bring you business. I absolutely and totally respect you for taking action, and thinking outside the box.

In my experience, it is better to get at least a 33% if not %50. I generally get 50% to start working, and 33% as Good Faith to hold me as retainer so that I won't sell my services to thier direct competition in thier local market and industry.

I only say this if... they won't prepay 100%

This way... I at least have my costs covered.

      For the 50% deposit...

      Just say....
"That way I can cover my costs and put your mind at ease because you know I am going to be back for the other 50%"

Are you referring to only taking one client per niche for SEO business? Or are you actually limiting the website creation business also?

I only take one client per industry to do SEO, but now that we're going more into website building, I thought we could offer websites to more than one in the industry?

        What's your opinion on that?

LOL you know when I went to the bank with 2800 I was tempted to take a picture of the checks but I was to anxious to deposit them. Maybe next time. And I will second that again - thanks Amir!

        I know what you mean...

As soon as I get a check I high tail it to the bank...

        I mean lightning fast...

No thanks needed... I am just glad to see people actually taking action....

Whether that action is to hire other people to do the calling for them or not...

        Don't think... Just do....

Lol. Im the same way. I always intend to take pics , but once its in my hand Im usually only thinking about getting it to the bank. Its shame to not think of, especially since now we can take pics on cell phones. Should be an easy enough to remember. Me too Grin. Im gonna take a picture on the next one.

Seriously though, I know vapor isnt doing it here, but one could easily have a friend who is a business owner write them a check for 20k and take a picture of it... then tear it uip and throw it away... they could even have MULTIPLE friends do that.

So check pics dont carry much weight... but we all know vapor here is showing the real deal!

Could be worse. I was tickled to get my first consulting check last summer that I came home and ran it through my color scanner to get a copy of it...especially since it was a decent amount of money for, and I quote, "building 20 backlinks and sending you a report on how to maximize the elements on your website".

After I had done it, I looked at the check this single, late-30's man had given me, and realized that if I ever showed it to anyone...well...here, see for yourself.

Yeah...my first-ever consulting check was a real Mickey Mouse deal. Sigh.

            Hilarious...

Even worse... It was a Minnie mouse deal....

You know what I find interesting... Both checks on this page of the thread are numbered in the early 1000's...

I always start a new account at check # 1000...

So does that mean these are new businesses?

Would it mean that one just starting out would be better calling new businesses?

Actually, in the case of my Minnie Mouse deal, he had been in business for about two years at that point (a professional dog trainer, by the way).

I think the biggest advantage to approaching newer businesses is the fact that there's been less time for someone else to take a crack at them. Well, that, and the fact that a new business owner hasn't had as much time to become "set in their ways" when it comes to marketing their business.

However, I think there's also an advantage to working with established businesses. The bottom line to me is...the mindset of both the business owner and, more importantly, yourself...that's the most important thing.

I say that because I've never seen a difference in regard to the newness of a business. There are people that are open to anything that can help their business, there are those that are somewhat open to the possibility, and those that wouldn't accept your help if you had a bucket of water and their butt was on fire.

Take deposits from the first group, take deposits from the second group, and spend as little time as possible with the third group.

Mind, I'm not exactly telling the secrets of the universe here, but there it is.

                This is an absolute truth...

Get what you can and leave the rest...

A lot of new people to this concept (offline marketing/sales) seem to want to chase the ones that won't take your help if it is free....

I have fallen victim to that...

The good thing is... It's a numbers game... there are SOOOO many people that need and WANT your help. So why waste time with the ones that don't.

My primary purpose is to find the ones that WANT my services. Not convince the ones that don't.

I have wasted futile hours trying. So I speak from experience here....

There is no need to really hard sell.. or push your services on anyone.

If they don't see the value immediately... NEXT....

You are right... it doesn't matter old or new...

The biggest fear of new offline marketers is having to sell their service. But really.... we don't have to sell our services.... We just educate and inform the ones that WANT it...

                No real "sales" involved.

Finding the ones that WANT it... that's the trick....

    Amir,

Just one question, how do you take payments?

Because here in the UK, cheques are going obsolete, so is there any online merchant account which to take payments over the phone, or do we need to buy one to use while plugged into the phone line?

Well, two questions, but same connection,

    Cheers,

It's a good thing you are in the UK... The invoicing and book keeping software that I use is UK based.... and it syncs and processes credit cards through PayPal.

You may visit www.CannyBill.com for more info there.

The great thing this with CannyBill is that you can use PayPal and now one knows who your merchant services are going through. You can also give the clients a "client login" on your website and they can only access their invioces and information.

      Pretty cool huh,......

So let me ask you this one since i dont think i saw it asked. When you first started, did you have an actual business yet? no? how were you taken serious and trusted without being a legal business yet? Thanks Louie!

ps.........lots of great info in this thread!
I see a LOT of people waste time organizing their desk, organizing their business structure, getting ducks in a row.... doing this and that... everything but actually doing what they are going to be doing in this business.

I wanted to make sure that I was going to be ABLE to do this, before getting all the business stuff set up. Also... I didn't have the money.

Yes... it was only $10 to register the business name with the secretary of states office. Yes.... the EIN is free through IRS.GOV. Yes the bank account was free to set up, but I needed money NOW...

So I had my paypal account ready, just in case. Then I had my dialer and phone.... That was my business at the time.... All that other stuff worked itself out later.

I took action based on faith. I walked into my first client appointment, asked them what they needed, kept the focus on them, talked in a manner that insinuated I knew what I was talking about without speaking over their heads, then walked out with a check.

Then... Because the check was made out to the company name. I then registered my business and went to the bank and used the check to open my account and all the other stuff.

Of my first two deals, one was paid check, one was paid PayPal.

So within 72 hours I had a functional business. With VERY little start up capital or a plan....

As far as being trusted... Just act as if.

Act as if you have been doing this for years. Speak with confidence and they will not question your credibility.

          Easy Peasy....

First I'd like to thank everyone on the Warrior Forum, this site is amazing. I'm very new to all this & I'm so excited I found this forum.

The post by John Durham (newbies read this. how to make 50k...) is unbelievable and I can't believe something like that is free. The post by Amir Luis (how I made $1600 in 72 hrs) is just as good and both have an unreal amount of free info. So I'd like to thank them.

With being new to offline marketing but not cold calling I would love to get this going. I did have some questions I hope someone can help a new guy with.

1.) How and what do you set up to collect monthly payments? Could anybody help me figure that out? I couldn't really find a definitive answer on that.

2.) I remember reading on Amir's thread that outsourcing might not be a bad idea. Do you think starting out its better to make the sales, make the websites, do all the tech stuff, seo, etc etc. Or make the sales and outsource everything else?

3.) If you do outsource where do you find people to do all that for you? Make the website, drive traffic, seo, etc.

4.) If I did do everything, I don't know anything about seo. How do you make sure the customers site is worth having? Making sure it ranks, it'd getting traffic, etc.

5.) Where could I get a list of businesses to call?

I hope that's not too much and to everyone, thank you so much. I'm so excited to get my offline marketing career off the ground!

I really like these systems that take payments and also provide a swiper for an iPhone or iPad. Either way I have paypal as a merchant account, the payments are great in exchange for how simple it is to setup.

Paypal does work just fine.... and easy to set up... no waiting for approval....

If you are doing client meets... where you set the appointment over the phone and then go to visit the client. You can get a free swiper from https://squareup.com/

You have given more detail, motivation, tips, and downright good advice in this thread than a host of WSO's!!!

My hat is off to you!

You are a true role model for making things work. Your description leaves nothing to chance...

Thanks both to you and John Durham for encouragement to do the "hard" things.

Websites are come one come all....

SEO and Google Places Optimization are different animals.

It's like comparing an Apple to an Orange.

With websites there is no conflict of interest.

In the end you have to do what is right for you.

But my experience is that I do not offer my services to more than one Electrician in my area. In the next city over, or on the other side of town pending on their needs... it is still a case by case scenario there.

Once again. You have to do what's right for you. Keeping the results of your client and the your conscience in mind.

My main biz is LSEM. Google Places and such. I haven't had the exclusivity question come up, but I've decided that if it does, I'll allow the client to purchase for $1,000, an option that gives them exclusive rights to a geographic area for one year.

It will work like this. Lets say that I'm hired by a dentist whose office is located on the corner of Colfax & Grant. Once she pays for the exclusivity option, I agree that I won't accept any new dentists as clients within a 2 mile radius of her office. At the end of the year she will have an opportunity to review the exclusivity option at the current market price. But I am free to work for other dentists outside of her protected circle.

Think about it. Does television, radio, newspapers or yellow pages cap the number of advertisers that can market through their channel? Then why should we?

I guess this is something we all have to decide for our own business. The way I look at it is that I'm telling my client that I'm going to do all I can to get them to the top listing, and they may end up somewhere on 1st page. The question is, how could I try to get 2 or more clients to the "top listing"? It would be like being a coach for 2 opposing football teams - which one are you going to coach better?

So I like the approach of using the exclusivity to sell the services - it creates more urgency for the potential client. But again, to each their own. I'm not against the other approach if it works for you.

          Hi Katerina,

That is a very valid approach and question you bring up. However, I'm positioning myself more like a business coach or a swim team coach. I will do everything I can to help my client or athlete to be successful based on the coaching package that they have purchased.

If they want one-on-one coaching or a personal trainer, I'm more than happy to provide them with that premium service.

            I like that explanation, Randy.

I have been a public speaker for 6 years and have taught thousands of business owners how to market their businesses. In that case, I am a marketing coach and I teach them all the same practices. In my local agency, I provide the exclusive area packages, which is what you compare to a "personal trainer."

So both methods could be used. It's a matter of choosing what makes the most sense and profit to you.

          Katerina,
Why not use different keyword modifiers for each client if they are in the same niche? Say for example you have two dentist in Spokane, Washington. Why not get the one ranking for Spokane pediatric dentist & the other one for say Spokane children dentist. These two modifiers will be easy to rank for and each client will be happy with their ranking. Just do your usual on page & off page SEO and your good to go.

          Just my two cents worth

Thanks Louie for starting this thread, it has been a joy reading it and learning.

  • Louie, since you try to close the sale on the phone, what do you do if they ask what kind of a website they will get? Do you have a page with sample sites to send them to? I guess, if they want to see samples, you'd have to schedule an appointment for next day after they've looked at it?

I did have a site in the same theme setting.... but I am redesigning that one as we speak....

      But....

Another way you can do that is to take them to previously done websites right there on the phone.

"Hey Bob, You sitting in front of your computer right now?"

"Go to www.__________.com see that.... "

explain a couple of features and benefits. Point out the calls to action being above the fold. "Notice how the wording is directed to the target demographic?" That kind of stuff.....

"Now that you have seen that one... let's go to www. _______ .com. See how that one is similar to the other one... but totally different? Different colors, different ______ and _________ but still similar. That's because we focus on simple, streamlined designs that have marketing oriented direct response content that gets results. Yes.... they are visually pleasing, but there is not so many bells and whistles that you don't know which way to go first."

"So what I am offering you is a custom header, your choice of colors, marketing oriented content, on page optimization to make it search engine friendly, and a keyword oriented domain name so it will make it easier for you to be found. All for only $599."

"I tell you what Bob, I can do something special just for you... my manager only lets me do this for people I like... so don't tell anyone... but, I can get started with a deposit of only $299 and the balance after the site is done, or you can pay the whole thing right now for only $499. Which one of those works best for you?"

      Done and Done... Easy Peasy...

The reason I used the wording about the same frame is because I would use the Flexx theme by iThemes... Why? Because it is EASY to customize. You can put in a rotating image header with ease, and install the XML Sitemap and All in One SEO pack Plugins to take care of the on page seo....

      Easy peasy....

If you don't feel comfortable using that theme... or if you just simply don't like it...

I am currently playing with Premium WordPress Themes | Elegant Themes

These are much better looking and cost effective... if you plan on selling them though... I would suggest the developers license. I just like to keep things above board. You can do what you want.

      Why did I use WP??

Because with a www.hostgator.com or www.bluehost.com hosting account you can use fantastico to do a one click install. That way if you are not technically inclined. You can do it real easy....

The Elegant themes... seem to take a little more doing as far as installation of the theme itself but after you have watched the videos and what not you can do it pretty easy....

Does take a little FTP uploading, vs the Flexx theme just one click... but they look SOOOO much better....

    Hi Amir
Thanks so much for this post. I have a couple of questions.
If the customer is only paying $30/m what kind of maintenance do you do?

The second is about selling hosting services. Are you ever concerned that your reseller hosting company will disappear or have other big problems? I don't want to think about all those angry customers.

Finally what does "TM" stand for in this: "With 5-6 TM's which are easy to find on Craigslist"

    Thanks again

One more question! When you do sell people on a 3-5 page site, do you provide their written content?
IE: Do you say "I just need you to send me some 'About Us' information, some company goals, etc?" Or just write it for them and say "Let me know if you'd like any revisions?"

I specifically use exclusivity as a way to create urgency and close the sale. (When it comes to GPO)

    Straight and simple.

You can also use a variation of what Randy is saying... I give you a 2 mile, 5 mile, 7mile, whatever exclusive territory. Which builds value and creates urgency all in one whack...

    Easy peasy....

Great stuff Luis (Louie)! I have been doing web development as a "consultant" using an outsourcer and know I need to generate some new biz. As a life long sales person I have always hated cold calling but.....if you call 100 people you are likely to get 10 positive responses, if you call 1000 then 100, if you only call 10......

Thanks for the inspiration - translated into "kick in the bum"!

        Hello Amir,

Tremendous Thanks and Blessings for this awesome, eye opening post.
I have followed you onto the telemarketingforum and found the
Harbour Master and your services .

Here's my question- I have a great, but demanding day job- so I will need to cold call after my working hours-financial freedom is not possible as a wage slave- no matter how golden the chains.

As a result, I want to hire my first part time telemarketer.
        Thanks for the script sir.

Could you tell me more on the following:

        - 2 things that I should be looking for to short list and ultimately
        hire my 1st telemarketer

        - what remuneration package should I offer- mix of fixed salary and commission??

        - Do I let the TM close or just qualify leads for me to close or some combination of both

        Thank you so much again.

        Stay Sunny,

Dependant on the offer you are making and the price point of said offer....

Also... hiring a telemarketer and having them do the heavy lifting is great in theory.

But you have to hire 5 to get 2... Really... You have to hire 5 to get 1 good producing, show up every day.... telemarketer.

Another great thread in the offline marketing thread.

I have a method, or really was given an method from another thread, about offering a service which would make thousands of dollars a month. This can prevent a difficult financial situation for me which I see coming up over the horizon. The only problem is it involves cold calling.

I hate cold calling and am not experienced with it at all. The fear of not knowing what to say, being hung up on or coming off as unprofessional and amateurish are holding me back when I should have started yesterday, despite the motivation to do it now.

I know you just have to feel the fear and do it anyway. Afterall, you can't learn if you don't do anything.

    Hi,
This is Really great piece of work done

    Louie/Amir,

I've been meaning to post on this thread for awhile and let you know how awesome you are for sharing with the community here. Quite frankly, someone could take the information you've got on this thread and change their financially situation within a week.

In fact, you give an example of how you did just that. When you HAD to make money, you stopped worrying about getting things perfect or what someone might say to you... You took ACTION and made stuff happen.

Your action plan is great, but the biggest thing I think Warriors can take out of this is to make a plan and follow through. Reading WSOs will never make anyone a dime... Although it's been said over and over again, action is key.

I mentioned this on someone else's thread and I've also said this countless times during my training webinars, but I'll say it again...

"The more people you talk to, the luckier you'll get"...

Great thread from an awesome Warrior!

    Thanks again for sharing!

Thank you Joshua... I really appreciate the kind words...

You are right... Quit looking for the Golden Ticket in WSO form and just TAKE ACTION!

    Straight up...

The kindest words ever said to me were...

"You think too much. Don't think... JUST DO!"

    Those words changed my life.
As everyone has read here on this thread.

These are answers to a recent PM that I recieved... I had to shorten it because you can only have 5000 characters per PM

So here it is.... Hope this helps... oh... and part of the questions are related to my last WSO if you get confused by them....

    It's a 5 page direct response site - what's on each page?

Marketing Oriented Content... For more info... research Dan Kennedy and some of the other great marketing minds. Anything but a brochure website that only talks about the business. I prefer to focus on the target demographic. Not the client. It helps conversions.

Does the company provide you with the photos for the site (e.g. of them, their place of business, etc) or do you take those yourself?

A little bit of both... I only deal in my local market. There is more than enough to go around right here in my own neighborhood.

Does the person you hire to build the site also do the optimization?

Pending on what you mean... I do the onpage optimization myself. Just from my own experience and what I have learned optimizing my own businesses websites over the years.

Do you always include an opt in form or is that an upsell?

    Up Sell... fo sho...

How much is reasonable to outsource it for?

Depends on where you are... If you are just doing a couple sites a week... you could outsource to WF... Harbourmaster on TMF... or me....

Average is $149 you provide content. $200 and I provide the content.

If you're new, why should they trust you with a check upfront?

I suppose that is why I only deal local. I like to meet people... But if you are unable to do that... You can get 50% deposit and 50% on completion. If you are doing the sites yourself.... You can do $100 for a deposit. If you wanted to. Whatever to get the deal.

I found a user named "harbourmaster" but I saw nothing about web design - just a WSO on QR codes...

He is active member... and a moderator... at thetelemarketingforum.com
    Check the classifieds section.

I read through the script, but scripts fall apart when the person starts asking questions - and I'm not sure I could answer them...

Yes and no.... the most important part is the intro.

If you can't answer a question.... let them know... Be honest. "off the top of my head I am not sure how to answer that quesion... I tell you what. Rather than mis inform, let me check that out and I can call you back in a few."

Then keep going no matter what, sometimes you will answer the question later and they will have the ahhah moment.

Oh - I didn't quite get your math regarding Yellowbook costing $600 more per year - If you charge $299 plus $30 per month hosting, that's $659 - and YB at $79 x 12 is $948 - only $289 more (the first year) - perhaps you were referring to each year after that? (Probably - I get it now...!)

Sometimes I sell websites at $299 as well.... Usually not... But I do. Maybe that was where the numbers came from. I don't know... it has been so long.

Do you use some sort of contract / agreement to protect yourself (and for the client's piece of mind)?

Nope... No one even asks.... I am more of a handshake kinda guy. For SEO and GPO I do use an agreement. But I never call them contracts. They are agreements.

Okay - that was a lot of questions (sorry!)...

About your WSO - could someone non-technical like me do the Google Places stuff? Do I need my own website starting out?

The WSO on Google Places is designed to explain EVERYTHING technical. So you would actually be better off pushing that service combined with traditional SEO. I got my start in this business slinging websites.... but I really don't sell them anymore. I give them away if they do an SEO contract. There is more money and less customer complaints and contact with SEO and or Google Places Optimization.

How do you come up with $3000 per DAY of "residual income" - I didn't quite get that - later in the thread you talked about $12000 per month - so it was a bit confusing...

Any thing is possible. Right now I have enough residual income that I do not have to work. But I do. It gives me time to kick back and answer REALLY LONG PMs like this one. I am 30 minutes in so far... Sometimes the math is different because my head was in different phases of the business. Sorry for not communicating better.

Is one of your 7 methods of getting clients by using email?

    No

I am not a big fan of email at all....

Last night I ate dinner with Congressman Trenton Franks and a bunch of other Senators and Local Reps of the Republican Party. I am not political at all... But I have two new politicians as clients.

Never too many questions... I like being of service. I can't keep what I have if I don't give it away.

You have peaked my interest on the JV. I am always open to new ideas.... but have been around long enough to know if it won't work out... I just won't do it.

As far as building the site and not doing any SEO. That is just fine. That is how I started in this business. One of the best ways of selling SEO is to offer them a website.

When they say... we already have a website... go into the SEO pitch...

"Oh really? How is it working for you? Is it making you money or is it more of an expense? Well if it isn't making you any money there could be several reasons why. The most common is people put up a website but get no visitors. A site unseen is no site at all..."

      Blah blah blah....

look at the what Groupon has done to Google.

Google CEO's adamant that automated is the only way. But Groupon expands to 200 countries and has sales team calling all day long, what does Google do?

They revamp Google places and start creating sales team to get on the phones and sell the service.

Groupon is the fastest growing company in history, why? The went out and got the business.

Was just remembering an old factory job as I read your thread title here and my mind said "How I made $400 working 50 hours per week at my factory job...".

OMG, I will never go back to that. Its been many moons ago... I cannot imagine working that hard for that little money ever again, and now that I know how to produce my own, I cant imagine working 50 hours on a clock, or getting an "hourly" wage... looking back, that didnt make any sense at all. It was really like a big joke on ME.

Some wont be able to see this from my perspective yet, but some will...

Some will look back and say "What possessed me to let someone pay me 400 bucks per week for 50 hours and let someone tell me what to do all week long... Hell I cant do that much by myself and at least not have to answer to anyone, and probably make 3 times the money"!

This isnt an arrogant post its an "OMG Im relieved" one.

Get free man. Create some income streams with your noggin that God gave you to create with. I still work ALOT but I work on stuff I WANT to work on.

I just cant be a slave. Im not looking down my nose saying that either, because I used to be one... I just cannot allow the God Creator within to humble itself to begging for opportunities from an employer, and admitting that I need someone to create an opportunity for me because I cant do it for myself! I am well equipped. I have no need.

Neither do you if you are on this forum!

If you have internet access you arent too far down to turn things around yet!

I assume thats why everyone is here!!! To become independent.

I am always going to create for self, and I am going to teach my children and grandchildren the same... that they have as much creative ability as any boss!

Here's to hunting on our own thank you!!!!!

We never lack proper circumstances - What we lack is the proper "IDEA" about how to create within them.

What do I ALREADY have that I can leverage for success?

Amir, the majority of my leads come from business networking meetings. This is where each attendee gets 30-60 seconds to stand up and describe their business. It's imperative to develop a compelling 'elevator pitch' which is NOT about What you do or have achieved, but ABOUT THE BENEFITS your clients and their market receive.

I've always been cold-call-o-phobic. Maybe I'm weird, but I'm more confident speaking in front of a group or face to face. Over the phone I don't have the benefit of eye contact and body language. However, when I do pick up the phone, it often results in a subsequent face-to-face. The high ratio is partly because of the time I spend vetting my call list. (OK, I probably spend too much time vetting and fretting.)

Even armed with a compelling 'pitch', I struggle with how to get past the gatekeeper and establish credibility with the prospect at the beginning of that first phone call -- before segueing to the pitch.

What's the best way to get from A to B?

Agreed... But once there is motion... Just keep it going.

The fact that he is willing to take action means that he has what it takes. Most just get locked into analysis paralysis. So just starting with the smallest act, you move from there. Starting in motion by sending emails and seeing for himself that they are not nearly as effective. Getting the back against the wall... then grabbing the phone because the emails didn't work and I need money right now!

The focus of the compelling pitch that is included in this thread... Getting past the gate keeper. The opener is the thing that you will say the most.
There is WAY more time spent with gatekeepers than decision makers.

There is no secret sauce. But portraying in your voice. Relaxation, indifference, and confidence surely does spice up the recipe.

You are not a salesman. You are a business owner calling to offer another business owner a solution. You don't care if the gatekeeper doesn't want to let you thru. That is their loss. Not yours. You have the solution. You are in control.

The attitude of indifference has worked very well... In my dating life... I don't chase women. I establish interest, then step back.

In my business life... Yes... I cold call. Yes I put myself out there... I establish interest... then I step back. I let them decide if they want what I have. I don't push it.

      Some call it positioning.

Once interest is established.... Then I build value (features and benefits.)

      establish my USP.

      establish the risk free guarantee.

      and make an offer.

      with a Call to Action.

"To get started I just need $xxx down (usually 50%) and then $xxx on delivery. Do you want to do that with a visa or mastercard?"
(No option to say no in that question is there?)

As far as business meetings go... I absolutely concur.

Somewhere on this forum I posted where I went to the Lincoln Day Dinner (Republican Party) thing. I don't necessarily care for politics and was by far not politically motivated in attendance.

I was only there because a client invited me... He paid for a REALLY good table. Front and Center, and I had a STACK of business cards on me.

I walked out with no business cards of my own and two campaign internet marketing fundraiser deals in the making.

"To get started I just need down (usually 50%) and then on delivery.

There is no reason to discount cold calling. It is a principled action that has been working for centuries.

Business owners are all at some stage in their desire to solve a problem. Tm\m or cold calling is simply market research to start with - identify where the business owner is in his need to fix. Those that don't have a problem won't buy no matter what your solution/offering is. Those that are desperate will listen to anything and maybe buy anything. I identify those who are agitated and work with them. Leave the rest on simmer and use follow up email and TM to highlight where their competitor is taking their customers . They will move from indifference to simmer to boil sooner or later. And that's when you talk to him.

This is a great approach to TM. Many people think that TM involves hard selling, but this isn't necessarily the case. What we should be doing is establishing that your prospect has a need you can address during that initial contact, and then proceed to set an appointment to discuss things in detail for a later time. It's not about selling, but more about filling a need that the prospect has - you aren't shoving something unnecessary down their throat here.

I like your approach for following up with the indifferent prospects - so do you actually research what their competitors are doing online, and then give them regular status reports about it? This seems like a great way to agitate and make them concerned about their lack of an internet presence.

This absolutely spot on and totally the way to make things last longer and sell more. I find what starts out as a simple call that is based in curiosity, can easily turn into months or years of development into bigger things. Going for a hard sell is like a closed ended question, it just stops cold on the result.

              HA... Your are correct sir....

I personally prefer the call and set appointment approach for fast money. Don't get me wrong... you can close lots of deals over the phone. But with some finesse.

First...I had to learn how to close in person before I could close over the phone. AND.... it is easier to read the prospect visually than it is over the phone. For me... anyway....

Although..... A member at The Telemarketing Forum - Index took the script I put in the Make $699 per day with Google Places WSO and used it to have her 1st $30,000 day!

But that script is based on reciprocity. Giving... then flipping it to a fear of loss with emotional triggers that ask for the sale.

              So a little different....

Wow what a great thread. I have some newb questions. For hosting im assuming you have a reseller account somewhere and use this to host your clients sites. So if you purchase the domain and handle the hosting if the client ever decides to leave you could take the site away. Who actually owns the site than you or the client?
For clients that already have a site and want a redesign I assume you transfer their domain to you hosting? Is this ever a problem?

I use Hostgator to host... yes... the reseller account is like $25 per month... So getting 1 client pays for that and the rest is pure profit.

So if you purchase the domain and handle the hosting if the client ever decides to leave you could take the site away. Who actually owns the site than you or the client?
I use Name Cheap to purchase keyword oriented domains... that way... if the client renigs... or whatever... I can resell the site to his competitor.

Also.... at elegant themes... there is a under construction plug in that you can install.. which blocks visitors from seeing the site while you work on it... You can use that to block access and say the site is down.... then the client will call and pay.

After 30 days nonpayment... I resell the site to some one else.

Never... just get thier log in info... and repoint the DNS Nameservers to yours... Which you can find in your account info... or contact support via chat and they will give it to you.

                    Amir,

I'm a bit confused by the following:

I thought since you were charging the client/customer $299+ that they actually own the website, and that if they decided not to use you for hosting but want to keep the site that they retain the site?

Don't know how you'd be able to get away with selling the site to a competitior if the client bought and paid for it with the impression that they actually own it?

It also doesn't seem like it would go over well with clients if they didn't know ahead of time, unless you tell them upfront that if they ever stop paying the monthly hosting that they can lose the website; although they did pay a lump sum of $299 or more which still seems a bit "uncool" that they lose the site because they don't want to pay you the $30/month.

But if they didn't want to pay hosting from you or anyone else for that matter they still wouldn't have a site that could be viewed anyway so they would still have to pay for webhosting somewhere so I suppose why not make it you .

I think you may have answered your own question in that diatribe.

I can understand where you confusion may be. When someone doesn't pay, I open the lines of communication. Generally there is a personal issue or whatever. But this is VERY rare....

The ONE case where this has happened.... The guy did a chargeback on his credit card. I sold him a website for $599 and he did a chargeback, which caused other problems.

                      So I resold the website.

That post was made about the time that happened so it was fresh in my mind...

Anyway... If you do have a customer that doesn't pay... and is paid in full for the initial set up, then you can use the plug in that block veiws to the site.

Then contact the customer and see what's going on...

If they want to change hosting, there is a $50 fee to change the nameservers to your new hosting company.

Or whatever you feel comfortable with.

How? I made it on a keyword oriented domain.

That way it is transferable in case you deal with less than savory electricians.

Maybe I should have made that clear. I knew what I was thinking....

                      Jeeezzz...you can't read minds?

Forgive me for being a bit slow and not making myself very clear but what I meant is in the rare instance that they want to hire someone else/do it themselves with maintaining their site and getting cheaper hosting and just not work with you anymore period?

So in actuality they don't really own the site the way you have it set up they're just renting correct, even though they had to pay a fairly decent up front "initial setup fee?"

I'm surprised that you've only had it be an issue only once which is cool .

I just don't know if I'd feel right charging them $1,000-$1,500 (I'm going to rank sites for local keywords that get search volume on the first page of Google and then sell the site to a local business) and about $40-$50 per month hosting (maybe more).

Do your clients realize that if they stop paying hosting they'll lose the site and if they ever decide to do it themselves or go to someone else for their hosting needs and don't want to use you either way that they will lose "their website?"

Sorry for this long post...I'm just struggling with understanding what the business owner actual owns...it seems like they would be under the impression that they own the domain as well as the site since they made a decent sized upfront payment but in actuality that's not the case...you own everything, in particular the domain name.

I think you are a little confused here. There is a website leasing business model has existed for a fairly long time, this appeals to some businesses that would rather lease than buy the site outright. If they feel uncomfortable about this, you could of course offer them the site outright if they want it, and charge them a commensurate higher fee.

The business owner owns nothing with this business model - if he stops payment, you can simply go elsewhere and offer it for lease/rent to other businesses in the same category. Remember that some business owners lease this type of site in conjunction with their existing site, as they want one domain with their business name in it, and one that gets to rank at the top of the search engines and kind of serves as a conduit to their main business site.

On the other hand, you can do what Louie is detailing above. He controls the hosting if he is the reseller, so he can block it if there is non-payment or a chargeback - I don't see anything wrong with doing this. I wouldn't transfer the site to the customer's hosting (if they request it) until after 2 or 3 months (institute some kind of "cooling-off" period), so that you still have control of the site in case anything unexpected happens, like a chargeback.

They won't lose the site if it's transferred (by request) to their own servers/hosting, it's just that I advocate hanging on to it for at least several weeks to ensure that the transaction is kosher and nothing bad happens.

That is not what I said. But if that is the way you want to run your business whatever... I sell them, I don't rent them. The way you described your business model to me, it sounds like you would be better off renting them...

I'm surprised that you've only had it be an issue only once which is cool .

That was an issue where the guy did a charge back on his credit card so I did not get paid, therefore he owns nothing.

I just don't know if I'd feel right charging them $1,000-$1,500 (I'm going to rank sites for local keywords that get search volume on the first page of Google and then sell the site to a local business) and about $40-$50 per month hosting (maybe more).

Don't devalue your service. Call the newspaper and ask them how much it is to run a sunday paper full page ad. Then Half Page ad... Then ask about their readership numbers.

Now go to google and look at how many people search the term EACH MONTH. Then tell me which has more value... Better yet.... Tell me you didn't raise your prices because they didn't take you seriously. They thought you were trying to rip them off because you are TOO cheap.

Do your clients realize that if they stop paying hosting they'll lose the site and if they ever decide to do it themselves or go to someone else for their hosting needs and don't want to use you either way that they will lose "their website?"

That is not what I said.... If they stop paying hosting, their site can no longer be viewed. I put a plug in that says "Site Under Construction". When they get paid up. I remove the block. If they want to move it to another provider. No problem. There is a $50 transfer fee.

If you are using a cheesy site builder from Homestead or something like that... You will probably not be able to edit once it leaves their servers. So best of luck. Their site builders are dedicated to their servers, no biggie because they suck.

That way it is transferable in case you deal with less than savory electricians.

Maybe I should have made that clear. I knew what I was thinking....

Hey, thanks for this method, it is something which I will be starting this week, making cold calls to businesses, I am just making a list of all the businesses I want to call, with their numbers, once I have this list sorted, I will make the calls and get as many leads as possible.

However, there is one more thing, when capturing the sale, do we not need a contract of some sort for the business owner, to show them it is official, and what he has agreed too, for e.g. web design, a contract to state they ordered a 5 page website, with monthly hosting, so this is more solid, with proof etc...or do we not need to worry about this?

This is why I use the Callfire.com

It is a predictive dialer. It records your conversations. No one ever asks about contracts on web design when speaking over the phone. But if the odd chance that they do. I let them know that all of our calls are recorded.

Also.... When sending an invoice. It spells out the agreement. Also with the invoice is an information request sheet.

Do you have pictures you want used?

      What is your USP?

      Who is your target demographic?

      Etc.

Between the invoice and Email followups... you have enough to get them going. IF you have any problems... you have enough proof to say.... this is what you agreed to.

    Hi Amir,
assuming i got a client for a simple website design and i host their websites on my own hosting account and charge them monthly hosting fees, is it a good idea? Is it ok if i do this to all my clients? If this can be done, I can see massive profits as I only need to pay a few bucks for One hosting account yet i can collect individual hosting fees from all customers. Thanks

Since no one has answered this, I will go ahead. Short answer is yes.

Amir ( Luis ) used $30/month hosting as an example in one of his
posts, which is $360 a year. As you can see, after 100 clients, you have
a nice bonus stream of income i.e. $36,000/year. Not to shabby , eh ?

      Good fortune to you

        Thank you for catching that...

I don't know how I missed it... But Yes...

That is just the beginnings.. You start with a website... then you are the "web guy"... So when they need SEO or Social Media or Video ad infinitum... You are the Web Guy....

So $30 per month turns into $630 real quick...

Get 100 of those and then slow down..... Or... Do like I do.. and travel at least once a month....

When most people think of cold calling, they think of a pesty telemarketer that is struggling to push some product or service on them to buy. Now, when I read your post, it made alot of sense to me, because mixing the old with the new is not only creative, but it's also a numbers game online, on how much you can make, and who can get business out of who.

Really... I use to think that way...

But really.... It works... bar none...

What other people think of me is none of my business.

What matters to me is if I am going to be able to pay my bills.....

      Straight up...

That is pure gold right there. The worst enemy to cold calling is trying to read minds, plan to meet some imaginary danger or embarrassment.

"All I know is that I know nothing" - Socrates

I have no idea what is going to happen next and I never will. What I do know is that I know how to find out. I know how to meet whatever may come my way. I know that my attitude is everything, and that my vision of what I am and what I want is all that will define my world.

Finding out what people are really thinking by asking them and truly enjoying and appreciating the process is actually the best reward in sales. I love coming across unforeseen events.

I once ran a Photo business, and as a result I was asked to photograph a building being constructed by the architects that designed the building. Before I knew it, I was in a gondola, being hauled up by a 300 foot crane over the building. It was just really cool and nothing I would have ever imagined, but I never would have been there if I didn't just ask "Is there something I can do for you?".

I don't know what they are thinking, and I never will until I go and ask what they are thinking; I only know how I think.

I just want to add this plug for the telemarketing forum. Luis and John post some of their best material on that forum. How do I know? I am a member of both warrior and tmf. BTW, some of the stuff John posts for free in the gold member's area on TMF can literally make you a nice living. Add in Luis' comments and you have an unbeatable winning formula.

If I sound like a fan, I am. I built an insurance agency from ground 0 using cold calling so I know it WORKS if you do. These guys don't lie when they say don't be afraid of cold calling. It is a jewel among money making jewels.

I have used both - still use both - email is cheaper but less impactful unless there is a relationship. TM are harder to ignore and if interesting to talk with work great together with email as support. TM is still the backbone of all my offline local business lead generation.

Man thanks for all you do.

To the point: If I Use Manta and make cold calls what prevents me from getting in trouble with the DNC list?

I'm a newbie obviously. Cannot PM you.

Is the local calling as a b2b the key? Just one business owner to another?

I'm using skype to call and Manta but this point just doesn't seem to be adressed in the Bower pdf material or OOC stuff.

Or maybe I'm missing it. Can you clear this up?

There is no such thing as a DNC for businesses.

The DO NOT CALL list is only relevant to B2C so since you are calling B2B it does not apply.

So yes.... being one business owner calling another is the key.

Use a USB headset. Whatever you do. You want the calls to sound clear. The prong plug in headsets have crackle as they work on analog. The USB is clear and concise. Makes a big difference.

      Just sayin....

That depends on the level of expertise they display... I have a JV offer over at thetelemarketingforum.com. Where I split the net with Whoever applies and I accept.

I also have some phillipine appointment setters that I pay $6per hour (you get what you pay for... that is a LOT of money to them..) plus $30 if the sale is made... Then there are the outside sales reps... but that is a whole other story......

I know you touched on the gate keeper question, which would seem like quite a hill to climb since you know the business gets a steady stream of sales calls. My apologies I overlooked the part about the $50 transfer fee. So if the person ever wanted to get their own hosting and not use you/pay you for hosting they could take the website including the domain and host it elsewhere for the $50 fee?

Sorry brittles, I had no idea if you were a he or she, but at least now I know.

Yes, once the transfer fee is paid then the website can be transferred to the hosting provider of the client's choice (if they desire to do so). I do recommend instituting some sort of "cooling-off" period though (4-6 weeks at minimum), so that if there are any issues that crop up initially, you'd still be in control of the website.

First off.... make sure you explain EVERYTHING. Do not assume that they understand. Make them repeat back to you what you just said....

Also be VERY clear about your expectations.

Remember, there culture doesn't want to be rude... so they may say OK when they really have no clue... so... reconfirm EVERYTHING.

Also.. make them pitch you.... if it sounds wierd... offer constructive criticism.

Let them call for a day... then let make them pitch you again.

    See if there is improvement.

Let them know you are doing this as a trial run. If it works out, you will give them a raise and full time employment. If not.... Goodbye.

Also... there are a couple of other secret ninja tricks that I say.... but probably would offend some people here.... so PM me, and I will tell you.

Also... there are a couple of other secret ninja tricks that I say.... but probably would offend some people here.... so PM me, and I will tell you.
@Amir - I really appreciate the tips and the capacity with you are willing to help others, both on here and TMF.

I have a couple of applicants that seem promising, just hesitant to go forward but guess I will have to take the leap sooner than later lol

I can't pm you because I'm still under 50 posts, but would love to hear your other tips....I am not easily offended

      • WOW.
I've purchased a number of popular offline marketing courses lately, but this thread feels more ACTIONABLE than anything else I've studied so far! Thank you so much, Luis!!

Up until now, I had convinced myself that business owners wouldn't respond to telemarketing. And I really didn't want to attend business networking events (I'm not a fan of face-to-face). So I was getting bogged down in trying to figure out how to reach them online, how to establish my credibility when I'm new, etc...

This plan really feels right for where I'm at right now, and what my skills are. I'll be opening a Skype account pronto!

        Question:
Can anyone recommend a good resource for the appropriate "agreements" for all these services - such as the web design, SEO services, Google Places services, social marketing services, etc...? I'm totally clueless as to WHAT I should expect the clients to agree to.

Amir, that's when you know it's from the heart, when you re-read your own stuff and, think, "Wow, that's good!"

Truly, sir, you are a marketer par excellence and a gentleman. Hope it feels amazing to know that because of your generosity and servant's heart, the online world is a better place...and the offline world prospers as a result.

The best definition of an entrepreneur is one who empowers others to achieve their best, and why I am so very proud to be in that group with the likes of you!!

Thanks for your meaningful contribution. May you be blessed, "pressed down and running over" (more than your cup can hold!!)

Why thank you Miss Diva. Your words have touched me as well....

Agreed... about the empowerment of others.... A really good offline consultant will have that train of thought at the forefront of the mind.

"How can I help this business grow, and possibly keep people employed?"

"How can I make my clients life better/easier?"

The end result is you will have a system for everything you do that is about your client. Not you. The more you are focused on them... and not your own selfish ends. The more you succeed.

Succeed not only monetarily, but spiritually and emotionally too.

    Success isn't about money.

In fact.... if you don't focus on the financial aspect of things and only focus on the "being of service" mindset and how you can improve the lives of those around you. You will be far more successful and the Money just seems to come from all directions.

Taking a look back.... had I focused on Money... My mindset and heart would have made different decisions over the last year. In fact..... I would be doing a WHOLE lot less per month in residual revenue.

    Just sayin....

Proves the point that the direct approach is the most effective approach.

If you believe in what you are trying to sell, the client will see it to.

I could not agree with this more...

Really... The most effective form of marketing our services... Taking a flier, and walking in the front door. Every hour and a half spent doing this. A rep picks up a new client.

That is the average company wide.

So if you are wanting to make money TODAY... go print some fliers that looks somewhat decent. They don't even have to be color when starting out. Then walk in, introduce your self, let them know you can improve thier quality of life. Then walk out.

A lot of times.... The decision maker will start up a conversation right there.

Boom... You walk out with a check!

      Done and Done.

You will learn more about your market and what your customers are looking for by picking up the phone and dialing a few hundred prospects than you will by reading marketing studies.

If you decide to pick up the phone and make the calls you will soon learn what other sales pros have known for a long time - The best leads are the ones you generate yourself.

    Thanks for a great thread.

      Hello Amir,

Thanks so much for posting such great advise. What I got from this? JUST DO IT!! and.. I just started taking action. I am calling out businesses today, first 30 calls in.. just one interested but no appointment set.. I will follow up next week with him. It is ok, I will get that first client soon, I know it.

And tomorrow, I am printing out flyers and walking in their doors to offer free website and $79 hosting. My plan is to over deliver so I can get direct referrals from them. Then, I will offer them SEO services etc.

      Thanks so much

Now you know my motivation for right this super long post. Here is what I promise not to do...

I promise not to share anything other than my own experience. If I do... I will tell you about it. There is no way in good conscience I could sit here and tell you stuff that is not fact based, and/or experience based. If someone else's experiences are shared in this report, they will totally get the credit for it.
One of the problems I see with so many of the WSO's that are out there?
They are re-writes of someone else's material with absolutely no experience behind them. Or... they are someone's just straight out B.S... An opinion based on conjecture. I will not share my opinion with you in this report. I will only share my experience. Opinions are really useless unless you have your own experience behind them.

    Why do I say this?

Because... I grew up in Oklahoma. Oklahoma is the middle of the Bible Belt of the United States and people from that region are essentially good. Or at least they seem to have good motives, yet fall short of their chosen ideals on occasion. Being an "okie" made me start to take people at face value. Even on the internet. Maybe it's because I make it a point to live by the principles of honesty and integrity, that I think everyone else does too.

That being said... I took what was being shared with me at face value and later found out this guy was a hack. A professional marketer who actually only said he had the experience he was sharing with me. After a short period, I started asking myself... why is his way not working? And more importantly, why is this person telling me this?

Needless to say... This guy is no longer around.
If you want to be successful in the online/offline arena, my first words should be... just be honest.

"My Karma will run over your Dogma!"

All over the internet and all over these forums you will find all these references to the "Law of Attraction". Like attracts like... water seeks it's own level... however you want to phrase it. I have found that if I am honest and forthcoming, it just so happens the people around me will be the same way.

    So... Who am I?

Ok... Let's get to it... Who am I? Hi... My name is Louie.

The thing is... I didn't even know it. Offline Marketing as we define it today is combining your internet marketing savvy and mixing it with traditional marketing for the "brick and mortar" business. Back in 2002 I started the Re-Cell Technologies Corporation. What we did, was buy used cell phones in the offline world, then sell them online. Whether it be through secret trade related websites, or through open forums like eBay.

The whole business model was based on what we call today "offline marketing". A sort of hybrid between the old and the new.
Then I started a window cleaning company. You know... squeegees and buckets. The main focus of that company was high end residential. Follow the money. The way I grew that business 50% annually was via internet marketing. Combining the internet with the other marketing streams ofcourse. But according to my tracking and split testing. The internet is where the majority of my business came from.

Once again mixing the old with the new.

Really... offline consultants should beware that "the Phone Book" is not dead.
Why do I say this? Because I have a really good friend who is a Sales Manager for Yellow Book. What I lovingly like to call 'Big Bird'. Yes... the print aspect of the phone book is dead.

So if your marketing strategy is to defeat yellow book yet you don't want to cold call. You might be screwed. If your lead list comes directly from the Yellow Book because you know they are advertising. You might be screwed.

This is a little known secret that is never talked about in the Offline Marketing Community. Companywide YellowBook360 builds 15,000 websites a month.

You know how they do it? Cold calling... Do you really not want to cold call now? What do they do? They prospect over the phone. Set an appointment, and then make a sale. Why? Because it works!

It has been said that imitation is the kindest form of flattery. If you want to be successful, you have to do what successful people do... right?

So this begs the question.... Why wouldn't you mix the old with the new too? What I am talking about specifically here is... if you haven't guessed.

    Cold calling.

Every person I know that is successful. Every single one...

Has the ability to do what they hate to do.

That is what separates the men from the boys.
That being said... I know a former mentor of mine, Tom Pace - who's book you can pick up at Barnes and Noble, "the Kid and the CEO" always preached....

"The most important word in the english language is... Action."

So if you are not willing to take action... I don't know why you are reading this soon to be a report in post format. I would rather surround myself around people that are successful. People that don't take action, and aren't willing to do what other people won't do... get food stamps and unemployment benefits.

I don't know about you... but I do not want to attract an hourly wage.

The first few times were very awkward... but I did it anyway.

Then out of the blue someone will shoot you an extra $500 while you're sitting on your couch watching reruns and recuperating from a Turkey Hangover.

    True story

The reason I know this works....

My first day calling... My 3rd or 4th phone call was an appointment for my first $1500 client... I screwed up... I sold him the farm for really cheap. Originally I sold him a website at $1000 with all of the bells and whistles.
Really... I was nervous and full of fear. I really didn't know what I was doing. I just walked into the appointment with nothing but a smile, and walked out with a check. Knowing before I went in... "I got this!"

Then after working together for a little while and letting him see in live action my attention to detail. He said to me, "We will gladly pay you $1500." Now... I don't know if this is because I try to live my life by good principles... But if you ask me... the "law of attraction" was at work here.

Or say anything negative at all really... But that one... I got goosebumps over...

That was the guy I sold the website to for $1500.....

So how much money do you make now?

I actually have been averaging about $1,500-$2,000 per week. How? Selling websites to small business owners as a "loss leader." Really that is a low ball figure. Sometimes it's $4,500... Sometimes it's $1,500. Yet never less than $1500 though... I could do more... but a part time effort gets part time pay.

As we all know... 80% of your business comes from 20% of your customers.

So you can develop the relationship from start to finish. What started me using this approach is...

When I called offering SEO or anything else IM related, they would say... "I don't have a website." When I called offering a website, some said they had one. Others said they didn't. It kept the door open... making an opportunity out of every phone call.

This way, when you initially call... if they already have a website you can go straight to SEO or Social Media. This gives you options to at least go out swinging with each and every prospect. I figured this out after about 2 days (1/2days I'm lazy) of calling...

So I started offering Social Media and Email Capture Services. I thank God for the forums. (Thanking God is my thing. I don't mean to offend. If you don't like that... you can thank whomever you please.)

That being said... Now let's move on...

So Let's Talk About the Numbers....
Let's say... the only thing you are offering in your offline consulting business is websites. Set aside for the moment all of the other aspects of your internet marketing skills. Even if you don't know how to do websites and you are a killer SEO or Social Media person. I have a solution for you there too.
I go into every call with the primary purpose of selling a website. If other opportunities arise, then I pursue that avenue.
But for now... My unique selling proposition is marketing oriented content on direct response websites.

You also get $30 per month for "hosting and maintenance" from here on out. That's $360 per year. Per client! You wouldn't believe how fast this adds up.
    Putting the money aspect aside...

This is what you really get.

You get more time to focus on what counts... bringing in more clients and helping the ones you have. The more websites you sell, the more you get in residual income from hosting, and the more warm leads you have for other marketing services. You aren't in the web design business. You're in the hosting and internet marketing business. Website sales are just a way for you to get paid... to find qualified leads.

This is great, thanks so much for sharing!

    Hey Amir,

I think you hit a vital nail on the head in your post above, you mentioned that you sold your first client the farm with all the bells and whistles on it for too cheap due to "fear".

I think Fear is a very powerful emotion that can lead to extreme success or failure in many areas in life, but also in the online and offline marketing industries. I think any offliner worth their salt has been on the dreaded cold calls and tried to get their foot in the door only to be freaked out when the person on the other end is actually in agreement that your service may be what they need and asking what day and time to expect your meeting/appointment.

Once you get over the initial fear you can then become a lot more focused on what you're doing but I think a lot of people on the WF and in online and offline marketing fail to realise that it is fear that is either stopping them or at least making them slow down a lot. Procrastination is in some ways a sense of fear dominating your mind.

You fear the work involved or the success or failure it may bring.

Absolute kudos for you in writing that somewhat lengthy post and touching on the fact that fear is and can lead to loss of focus .

    Congrats Amir
