My Offline Sales Pitch, and how it can work for you.

Hey folks, I'm pretty new to the offline game, but I'm already signing clients left and right, and for BIG money. Here's what I do, maybe you can take my methods and use them for your own pitch.

I hate cold calling, and I hate email, so I don't bother with either of those. Instead, I find leads with the google places tool.

I pick a business that is ranking poorly, page 7 or 8 for their key terms, and they have no website. Then I actually go to that business and do my pitch.

When going to the business, I bring two things: A mind map detailing exactly what I can do, and my tablet computer. I show up in a sportcoat and jeans.

I say "Hi, I'm Aaron, and I wanted to take a few minutes to talk to you about your web marketing strategy"

"I noticed you didn't have a website, and your local business is ranking quite poorly on google. Were you aware of this?"

"Studies show that up to 95% of people won't look past the first 5 results in google, and up to 98% won't click past the first page. You're on page 7. The search term "your city your business" gets searched for (google broad search number of searches) a month. That's a huge chunk of potential customers you're missing out on"

"Here's what I can do for you"
Then I bring out the mind map, and go through all the things I do to optimize a website, and a google places listing.

Then I say "I even built a website for you already, and I can have it live TOMORROW"

This is where I bust out my ipad, and head over to the wordpress template i've created that's related to their business.

Once they see this, I get a deposit on the spot. I ask them for some details for the website, make an appointment to shoot a short video for the site, and come back later in the week and collect the rest of my fee. I charge monthly for hosting/SEO/and for not competing with another person in the same field within the city limits.

    1.) So you just show up to the business ? No appt or anything?

    2.) What wordpress theme do you use to create their site ?

    3.) What is your closing rate/ any obstacles you face with this?

      Yep, I just stroll in.

      I have a bunch of wordpress themes. Each business uses a different one.

      As far as my closing rate, I've signed more people than have turned me down.

      this line works every time: "Ok, that's alright if you don't have the money to invest in your own business. I just wanted to let you know, you're not the only (type of business) I'm talking to today. I just wanted to give you the first chance. Once they sign with me, I can't work with you. It's a conflict of interest"

      yup, that's what I do... just show up
      If you call them, they just tell you "they've got it covered"

      I walk in with my laptop and broadband card:
      while I've got the owners attention (and this won't last long) I google the keywords he should be ranking for

      I then show him and say "You're invisible", "you're not there..."

        Exactly. I don't want to have some secretary tell me no over the phone. I want to go in, talk to the person in charge, and say "your rankings SUCK"

    What do you charge for the one-time fee for setting up the website? What about the monthly fee?

      That varies, depending on the client. If it's a lawyer, I'm going to charge a lot more than I would charge a barber shop, because one client pays them a LOT of money.

      At a minimum, I'm charging $600 for the site, $400 for the places listing, and $200 a month for ongoing stuff and not signing with their competitors.

          Just google the industry you're going after, and wordpress theme. You'll find what you're looking for.

          Although it's not hard to just make a custom theme yourself, and I'm working on that today.

    Mind sharing what ways you help their page rank in detail? I know the video helps, and google places maybe help s a little...what other surefire seo for local is working great these days?

      I get them to rank organically for geo rich keywords. Like (your city) (their profession) and vice versa.

      I build them quality backlinks, and submit articles about the kinds of services they offer. Then I have a freelancer submit all that stuff to all the social bookmarking sites.

    Thank you for this. I'm hoping to land my first client. I met her delivering leaflets whilst I was doing my day job (postman) and she told me that a website was the next step, to which I said I could help.

    I know I can outsource the website, but I don't have a laptop right now so that I could do what you do

            Great post Lazy,

            Your information is straight to the point and walking into a biz you can start to establish a relationship and not be some voice on the other end of the phone or email. I would make one clarification though to your last post. I am doing it, I am doing it, I am doing it!

    Its really nice to see people posting that have been actually going out and cold calling people in a face to face situation, and having GREAT success.

    I still maintain my position that this is where the bigger accounts and bucks can be had!
