    You could use
    Code:
    www.freshbooks.com
Looks very professional and you can try it for free for the first 3 clients of yours.
Another option is Paypal, they have invoicing options too.

You can use PayPal as your Merchant Services and CannyBill.com which does the same as Fresh Books...

Jut doesn't make you get an Authorize.net account.

I think it depends on the number of invoices you produce each month and your billing types/details. If you only create a hand full of invoices each month you can keep everything manual, using basic invoice templates free from MS Word or Excel. If you have more volume and also need a good bookkeeping system too then Quickbooks. If you have recurring billings online, many use Paypal's subscription billing system. And there are many other options too, but I think it really depends on the business.

Xero.com is the best one I've used. They give you a full fledged accounting system and a nice looking invoicing tool for a very affordable price.

They also support auto-import from your PayPal/bank feeds. Saves you a lot of time on manual data entry.

I use Excel, it works great for me. There is a free version out there. Think the site is openoffice.org

I have been using the same template for many years and for a few different businesses.

        Cheers

          I'll second Freshbooks.

It works with Paypal so your clients can pay you right away but I love how easy it is to just input a client and send them invoice right away.

You can also set up recurring profiles so it sends them a monthly invoice if you are doing monthly SEO.

I use blinksale.com. It has a monthly fee but I just suck it up because I like the convenience and it all looks very upscale.

There are 2 types of people in this world....those who get it and those who don't. The ones that get it know exactly what we are talking about. The ones who don't are left scratching their heads.
