Google Places - Rank First then claim?

I read somewhere where it was better to rank the website first then claim the business on Places.

Has anyone else seen this. Starting a new website for local business and will create a new places profile.

There was a theory behind this but can't remember, which was something like ranking the website, creating your citations, etc. Then after website was on page one, then claim the profile.

Or do you think its better to save time and claim now?

You input is appreciated.

I would claim straight away if I where you. There are a lot of strange people out there and if you don't claim the listing, someone else might.

The idea is to create citations first and then to activate your GP listing.

When you activate your listing, Google will search for ANY info regarding your business and would find your citations like business directories or review sites...

If you activate first and then create citations, it will take longer for Google to index them.
