Hi Warriors,

I have a client in my city and they want to get listed in the google maps, when I filled out the form for his company, they said they would mail him the code to activate the listing anyway's I was wondering you guys do it? Do you send it to your address and active there listing or do you send it your ther addressand wait?

Also can you do it by phone? If yes do you use your phone or theirs?

Also I have done keyword research and got his keywords
4 to be exact
Do you put the one they want to show up most in title? They are all low comp high search keywords for local.

Any advice would be helpful!

Thanks

Jay

Google has taken away phone verification in a lot of locations. You have to have the card mailed to the exact address of the business. Then you enter the code.

I always use the clients phone number to get the verification code sent to. I'm pretty sure if you used your own, the next time you went to make a Places listing for someone you'd get an error message saying something like "that phone number is already registered".

I came across the same problem as some other warriors have mentioned in the last few days, that of having to choose the postcard option for a client. I was surprised as I've made quite a few Places listings for clients now and this is the first time I could only choose the postcard. I thought initially it was Google tightening up on people registering with mobiles and there's definitely something going on.

Anyway, I registered another listing for the same customer about 5 mins later, different address (they operate in two towns), and after putting in their landline, I was offered the usual 3 choices - SMS, call or postcard.

Putting a keyword in the title certainly helps and most businesses have that but this is what the categories are for really. I usually add the city they operate in after their company name for optimization. So for example, if they are called "P & M Plumbing" I would put "P & M Plumbing New York". On the ones I do this for I would then add their details to match in other directories if previously they were just listed as "P & M Plumbing".

    1. Have the postcard sent to the client's address. NOT YOURS!
It takes a lot longer than phone verification obviously, but it's not the end of the world. Plus, most locations have temporarily lost phone verification as an option.

    2. If you do a phone verification, use THEIR phone. NOT YOURS!
Just call the client, make sure they are available, and let them know that Google will be calling to verify their place of business. When they call to verify they will give the business owner a code. The business owner just needs to give that code to you.

    3. You say you have 4 keywords. I would try to find at least one more.
I use 5 keywords. The number of keywords you use is completely up to you, but the more the better.

    4. As previously stated, DO NOT put the keyword in the title unless it is part of the businesses actual name.
DO NOT put the city in the title, unless it is part of the actual business name.
The only thing that should be in the title, IS THE BUSINESS NAME. Anything else will violate Google's TOS, which could result in nothing but problems for you and your clients.
