Is Mobile Marketing Really Hot, or Not?

I am new here and I am surprised about how little discussion there is in these threads regarding mobile marketing, particularly here in the Offline forum. I would have thought the subject would get more posts. I have done searches and there are some threads and a few WSO's, but not as many as I would have thought. Are you offliners implementing mobile (SMS, QR Codes, mobile squeeze pages, etc..) in your marketing or are businesses just not into it yet? There are 8 million mobile marketing websites out there and you hear that mobile is all the rage, but I also don't see much evidence of it when I'm out to local businesses. I'm curious to know what the feedback has been from your clients. Thanks.

  • Mobile marketing is really hot.
And you don't need to know how to make a mobile website to get started in that business

    • We are seeing very little competition nationwide for specialty services in this niche such as interactive SMS texting, website optimization, near field communication technology (NFC), pay by mobilephone, voice powered technology, mobile apps sales, and propietary mobile commerce tools. According to some reports I've seen there are now more mobile phones in the market than computers. So, yes, it's starting to get a bit hot.

Get ready for the mobile phone slog in the next few months with new android apps more cell phones, iPhone 5 (dual GSM/CDMA), quad service for droids, etc.

    • I don't think it will be "hot" until later this year, it's "heating up" now though.
  • Mobile marketing is hot.

I don't think a lot of online marketers have picked it up yet however the offline world is clambering for mobile sites to be built.

If you have a normal site it is true you can see it on a mobile however lots of scrolling etc.

Building a good mobile site makes reading your info a lot better and if you ask people most say if they see a site that looks like it is not mobilized they quite often click away.

Which would you prefer to read.

  • I have not got into this yet, but I am doing my research. I think it's going to be huge withn the next 6-18 months.

I use my phone for everything and i know I am not the only one.

    • So what would be the best thing to do when one wants to start mobile marketing?

  • I've had limited success with mobile sites. I'd say only 5% of my small business clients see the need for an app or phone friendly site...and even then it takes convincing. I feel like the sites that need to be mobile friendly need to be something that a person would reasonably need on a phone, eg food ordering, ringtone sites, etc.

    • Hi,

2011 will be the year of mobile applications. Online access via mobiles will make a difference especially

      Thanks
  • Mobile phones and tablets are the future. People want portability in the era of global connectivity we live in. I think those who go into mobile marketing are smart, where else will it go besides mobile? I've seen some good WSOs on mobile marketing around here
  • Hey stealth I dont know when you saw your customers last but with all the press re mobile smart phones etc we hit all our clients up in the last few weeks and got a nearly 80% conversion wanting a mobile site.

These are everything from tires to window cleaners up to corporate etc.

    • Don't waste your time with trying to convince businesses to use it, or mess around with the little mom and pop type businesses. Ride the wave of businesses that have already heard about it and provide them with the services.

For the past two -three years we've been hitting up all the fast food franchises, trucking companies, moving companies, hospitals, large real estate companies, car rental, security companies, etc. Some of these exclusive contracts are into six figures. We have not been having hardly any competition at all for years.

Also recently l have my sales reps travel the country providing seminars on mobile marketing. We go to most of the chambers of commerce, Rotary, and other civic groups. The reception we're getting shows the need for this service is huge, and that is a significant source for our leads.

A good talking point to prospects is that for example is the wide publiciity for Starbucks rolling out a pay by cell phone app for iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones where you simply wave your phone to pay for that latte.
  • no doubt, mobile marketing is very hot in these days.
I think its good to go with mobile marketing.
future of mobile marketing is very bright.
  • Pay by phone for your latte....that is really good. I like that a lot. That must make an impact when you mention it and let them imagine the possibilities for their business
  • Pay by phone could rule the market in a flash. I've been somehow involved with a company that has wanted to build this since 2006-2008 (don't remember exact date). Let's just say Interac, Visa and Mastercard didn't help them out... But with apps, it could be much easier. The system I'm talking about would have been universal - hence its power, and its powerful enemies.

As for QR Codes/Mobile Sites, they ARE here. It's time to get them. I bought Quentin's tutorial on mobile sites and it's a good one.
  • text message marketing is extremely powerful, much higher visibility rate......only problem is its pretty expensive. But I realized people don't overlook sms-es unlike emails.
  • If you think Mobile Marketing is hot, try mixing Mobile and Local Marketing .....lets just say swwoooooo they will be knocking down your door
  • Thats exactly what I started doing a couple months ago and its been working well. Its tricky to stay ahead of the curve, let alone not get overtaken by it. I believe putting some eggs in the mobile basket can only help as technology get more and more mobile.
  • Mobile marketing can refer to one of two categories of internet and for me although it is not really well known but it is a very nice marketing approach. It is hot in short.
  • Mobile marketing is huge in some regions, but in the ultra-conservative midwest, it's STILL lagging. They'll get there eventually, but it's usually 3-5 years behind the curve in coastal trends for "main street".
  • Which is why they are such a good reason to target. Very easy to become an authority in the region, and you have the luxury of not much competition. Your biggest hurdle is convincing the client of the value of your services. That is always best done by actually giving them results!
  • Interesting topic, still looking into this myself, still very new to the concept really
  • You're right, it is quite remarkable the quantity of posts, or rather lack there of, here concerning mobile marketing. However, with that being said, I think with the amount of replies your subject has earned is testament to the potential.

I'm awaiting approval from Admin on a short white paper we wrote on Performance-Based Mobile Advertising. Once it's up here you may find some benefit in reading it.

I think Myob is spot on with his positioning of mobile. The thing that strikes me as absolutely brilliant is that his salespeople are out and about evangelizing the concept. They are not hiding behind a keyboard somewhere, there out there on the front lines of commerce... good for them!

"Mobile Marketing" covers many, many functionalities. SMS; MMS; Apps; NFC; LBS;... the list goes on and on and each line item on the list represents about a billions in global spend.

    Thanks for creating this post.

    • Ummm... We're not exactly just "evangelizing the concept", we are getting some very large contracts with fast food franchisees ie McDonalds, Carl's Jr, etc and trucking companies, manufacturers, retail chains, hospitals, moving companies, large real estate companies, car rental, security companies and even government contracts. This is not something "new"; but we've been doing this for 2-3 years now. There is virtually no competition anywhere.

  • As someone else has said, it all depends on where you are. We (in the UK at least) are 2 years behind the Far East in terms of mobile marketing. Its a lukewarm market, but one that is going to start heating up rapidly - which offers some fantastic opportunities for those slightly ahead of the curve.

I think the market has been waiting for an enabler - in the same way that broadband enabled the growth of e-commerce. The success of iphones and ipads over the last couple of years has now created the perfect environement for mobile maketing - and the wonderful thing is that, as with all other Internet-related developments, businesses have no clue about how to impliment or the potential commercial benefits. Just position your expertise and ride the wave...

  • is extraordinary mobile plugin for Wordpress. Here is the short description:
If you use this plugin, you don't have to learn anything about mobile development, otherwise you just waste money and time.

  • so I don't want to hijack this thread but I am really interested in mobile marketing... Where do you warriors recommend someone can learn how to get started and become successful in mobile marketing?

Anyone know of a successful website and/or blog that teaches mobile marketing? or maybe some products? (preferably free information)

I'd really appreciate if someone can point me into the right direction so I can get in to this because it's burning hot right now.
  • Can anyone recommend a good SMS based software or service provider that will allow for the management of such campaigns?

    • I heard the company in my signature can do that... and a few other cool things local businesses love.
