    Mario,

Do you have direct download links of your videos? Reason is, it is unbearable to watch the videos as they cut out a lot because they cannot load. I have a 50mbps line so that is not the issue, but I can't watch these vids using your server/provider?

That "truth about bla bla bla" bull is getting pretty old.

Seriously folks, just like the method of cold calling and saying "CONGRATULATIONS, YOU'VE BEEN RANDOMLY SELECTED TO GO ON A CRUISE" used to work, but got worn out quickly. It's not going to work for beans anymore.

I still see people making websites for clickbank and putting in the title tags stuff like "The truth about auto money x" or something.

People have caught onto that. Stop using it. It's stupid.

As Dan Kennedy said, the principles never change, but the techniques you use do and should.

You think I don't know why you're busy making videos "teaching newbies how to succeed"?

You are making these threads to get more popularity and get the word out about your product. These newbies are supposed to figure out that you know what you're talking about and buy your WSO.

          There.

You're the one who can't do what you preach so you figure you'll write a little pdf and teach it instead.

Kirrybows, I have been doing what I teach for 20 years. You didn't bother to respond directly to anything that I posted in commentary to your similar, snide rebuttals in my topic about Getting Bigger Deals. Remember that? The topic where, as an inexperienced person trying to figure all this marketing stuff out, you likened yourself to my competition. ROFL

For a person with such a distaste for marketing, you sure do spend an awful lot of time hanging out in a marketing forum.

Maybe if you stopped complaining and started paying closer attention, you'd figure out how to actually make some money instead of trolling around with your pearls of cynicism.

Instead of insulting members here, why don't you adopt a similar strategy for yourself and start making "subject matter expert" videos to attract the kinds of clients you also wish to sell your services to. You do want to attract clients don't you? That's why you hang out in a marketing forum, right?

Just be sure that you let me know where you publish those videos because I want to show up and post a comment like "Hey, you just want to make videos so people will think you're actually good at what you say you're good at so they'll buy stuff from you."

Sadly, I'm quite certain that you'll spin your wheels trying to be a marketing professional, overthink everything looking for the better mousetrap technical solution that you think the world will instantly recognize as something superior and unique, and beat the path to your door because you've discovered it.

You seem to be more of an engineering mentality trying to figure this marketing stuff out, but can't quite get the real hang of it.

Online marketing isn't what I'm trying to do. I'm here for offline marketing. That's why I'm in this subforum. It's getting hard to weed through some of the users' promotional "help for newbies" threads though. They have a way of superficially teaching without teaching anything. A smart way of getting people to buy their stuff.

What I value is the rest of the people here who don't mind conversing freely about the techniques that work for them in OFFLINE marketing without holding back the methods that work for them and simply establishing authority as a way of pre-sale.

You mean the way that I do and have been doing?

But you also criticized me for doing so, astounded that someone would turn have a detailed, open conversation about the topic. You didn't seem to be expressing much sentiment of appreciation or recognition of value then - rather, you did more of the same... taking multiple potty dumps in my topic.

Here you are crapping in someone else's topic.

You say that you want free information and conversation, but then when you get it, you criticize that as well, claiming that anyone who provides any depth of conversation is simply pre-selling with a sales pitch.

So which is it? I'm not real sure what it is that you really want, as you seem to be full of contradiction.

You want value and informative discussion, but then you complain when you get it.

And if you're trying to learn how to get people to buy YOUR stuff, whatever that "stuff" is, then why would you criticize other people who are, in your own words, "a smart way of getting people to buy their stuff"?

So what if they are using the discussion to sell something anyway? You're in a marketing forum, bitching about someone selling something. Pretty ironic actually.

University professors write papers and appear at academic conferences.

Industry professionals publish books and speak at tradeshow or seminar events.

You think they do all of that for the flipping fun of it?

There's an old story that tells the tale of an expert electrician who was called into the GE plant in an emergency to fix a problem that had stoppd the production line.

He walked over to some panel and drew an X on it, and then submitted an invoice for $10,000. The itemization was:

Marking an X on the right problem panel: $1
                Knowing which panel: $9,999

People who are experts deserve to be paid money for their expertise.

Maybe if you quit complaining so much, paid attention a little more, and then applied what you learned to your own business, you might find some growth without even spending a dime.

And I'm not talking about paying attention to the "WHAT" that is being said so much as "HOW" it's being said.

I'm in the process of launching a FREE MEMBERSHIP SITE with lots of videos about this stuff. You've got to join a list and sign up to the site to get access to the stuff, but I'll constantly be sending more and more, so there's ongoing value.

You think I am going to just send people cool videos to help them with their business and then once in a while some cute pictures of my kids or something? I fully intend to market to that list, and everyone who signs up for it knows that I am going to do so over time. But because I build a reputation and a relationship with the group, they understand that I am front-loading with value... much in the same way that a tax consultant might give away a free seminar series teaching real information.

You're in the information business my friend - whether you realize it or not. And the best thing that you can do for yourself and your "offline" career is to learn how to package and sell information services - because a whole hell of a lot of people are doing the same thing you are, and unless you're bringing something of value to the table, you're another lemming in the Sea of Wannabe, soon destined for the next shiny thing to come along when you aren't cutting the mustard.

The old saying goes, "Salesmen who are afraid to sell have skinny kids."

no, he clearly had an issue with me as well when he started the same garbage in my topic "Get Bigger Deals" a couple weeks back, casting the same kind of attitude.

He want's discussion, but when he gets it, instead of actually engaging int he discussion, he starts accusing people of only carrying on the discussion for the purpose of selling something.

And so what if they are.

Is he not in control of his own wallet?

Or does he just assume that he's got some special stature, and that everyone around him should just educate him to his beckon and call for free because he doesn't want to spend any money on the skills that he intends to use to create an income?

                Good luck with that.

Try carrying on a conversation with even non-internet marketing, marketing professionals like Jack Trout or Geoffrey Moore. They'll tell you to buy the book, come to the seminar, etc... You think they're going to have a conversation with you about their business just for the heck of it?

If I remember correctly, at one point, Jay Abraham wouldn't even take you on a consulting client if you hadn't purchased his entire suite of information products, because he didn't want to cover ground that had already been discussed in one of his products that were already available through Nightengale, et al.

Does that mean teachers add no value? How about consultants?

Knowledge is valuable. The right client will pay for knowledge and handle the execution themselves. Don't be such a downer.

Hey Mario I have a question.

Today I saw the most weirdest thing. I searched in Google a phrase like e.g Landscaper Manhattan.

The seven pack comes out and the first spot is by a company, No Verified Listing, No Complete Information, No Videos and no reviews.

2nd company has 15 reviews, Verified Listing, and Complete info with Video.

Now I check if the 2nd company is closer to what Google considers to be Manhattan and the 1st company is more distant.

What is the cause of that? Is his web more optimized than the 2nd company?

    Thanks for your help,

    Diego

    Mario,

I've been saying this stuff for a long time on this forum and I totally agree with you that people tend to believe for some reason that they can build a successful business in the local market without any person to person contact.

There's only a handful of large players in this space that are meeting business owners face to face and I know for a fact their services are a total joke and so hyped and they charge 1000's per month!

One of my buddies who is a contractor I have been slowly bringing him into this century over the past few months in regards to marketing his company online.

He got his feet wet and let me do 3 places listings for him and because I've known his family and have been an integral part of his companies success personally I gave him a deal pricing wise that would probably make you upset with me. lol Well sometimes love and friendship is worth more then the money. = )

Anyways to drive my point home, he was approached by some ReachLocal rep last November and he called me up and asked me if I'd sit in and listen to their presentation over the phone while the sales rep was there in his office.

After all the coaching and stuff and even against my advice to use them, he fell for it.

Well fast forward 3 months and his regular corporate site still no where to be found in the search results while my little optimized WP sites still sits on page of of Google. He spend thousands of dollars only to return to tell me I was right to begin with and he's wished that he'd put those 1000's towards the larger plans we'd been talking about.

So guys...people like Mario, Michael, Brian and I, along with many others on this forum have either provided great products and even advice and answers on this forum which is more then enough to help you have a firm foundation to deliver a GREAT service to small business owners.

Stop making excuses! Stop trying to reinvent the wheel, put on your nicest phone voice or a nice suit and get to talking with these business owners.

Are you gonna get shut down and told no? YES
Is it going to be a walk in the park for most of you? NO

But nothing that's worth having is easy so stop trying to find easy. The quicker you realize that you can leverage how hard it is to your advantage if you keep working at it and it will much sooner become easier.

With the negative posts aside, Rus, Mario and Michael, thanks for the great posts! Regardless of what the title of this post is--that's irrelevant to the important point being made here--if you want to do offline marketing as many newbies say they do, all they need to do is take action and move out of their comfort zone (yes that includes talking to business owners). This is a B2B business that just happens to leverage the internet as a tool to connect and provide the end service.
