The two smartest people that I know of regarding the category heading of "Google + Local Search" are Mike Blumenthal and David Mihm.

I'll refer you to this blog post by Mr. Blumenthal to shed some light on your question.

That's weird, I haven't needed any of that and my listings rank A and my sites are dominating the first page of Google in multiple spots.

No back links required quite honestly.

I also don't need these for my listings to get an A spot.

@OP - The three you have highlighted are the most important. As long as we are on the same lines when it comes to what a "Complete listing" is.

      However, don't forget to include:
KML File : XML Sitemap : And multiple maps created by different users

reviews and a complete listing is on the top factors, though I am not really aware of the other options.

your top 3 are pretty accurate in my experience.
all else being equal, top organic listings seem to
get ranked higher in google places as well.

Yes, you are correct, though it really depends on the niche and the competition.

For example, sometimes just a well optimized GP listing will suffice for a 1st page ranking, but when the competition is stiff, you definitely need lots of citations and reviews are ALWAYS a good thing.

Notice also I said a well optimized listing as opposed to a complete listing. Think on page seo without any keyword stuffing and you'll be fine =)

So the best evasive tactic for not keyword stuffing would likely be filling tags with various keyword variations, etc, correct?

        Nice Post,

The best tactic for not keyword stuffing is: NOT KEYWORD STUFFING
Just don't do it! If you do it wrong, you could have problems with Big G
Stick with 5 keywords, and optimize your listing around those 5.
Don't try to fit 5 with 100 variations of each into your listing.

You're missing on page SEO and links. It's important for local SEO as well. Not just regular SEO.

    Wow.

Nobody's mentioned posting photos both on the GP site and at places like Flickr and Panoramio.

Or doing some short youtube videos.

Or the User Data map feature.

Or getting listed in a number of different directory listing services.

I talk about these things in my free videos. Sorry, thread owner. I just had to chime in here. I am a firm believer that there needs to be a set of industry standard for local search marketing professionals!

The title of your listing has been the most important factor for my clients. competition for your biz category is #2 and # of reviews seems to be #3.

Thank you for the compliment! As one marketer to another, what did you "learn"? I'm curious since maybe this is something I could learn from...

In oder to rank in more competitive markets, you must also optimize the client's website; both on-page and off-page. ABBL, I say! (Always Be Building Links)!

id say citations are the most important. i had real trouble with merged listings and had someone from page1listings to help me out not cheap but done the job. I have also found that keywords in your reviews seem to help my rankings so i ask anyone who will leave a review to scatter a few keywords here and there

yes those would be the top 3 as it stands today. Reviews need to come from diverse accounts and keyword's in the reviews helps allot.
