Although this is a tool I have created for my own purposes to use while doing keyword research for my clients, I just thought of sharing it in the Marketers spirit that this forum brings out in us all.This free Google Places software tool lets you determine whether Google search returns Google Places / Google Maps results on the first page of results or not, for all your target keywords in one go.

I actually didn't even give a name to the software coz I just used it myself, until I decided to share it for free. So it is now named "Google Places Pack Finder".

So this is how I use it - I am basically a local business seo guy working with Google Places, so I collect hundreds of custom keyword combinations for the niche that my client is in. I first filter the keywords out based on search volumes and I secondly filter the keywords out based on which keywords are returning Google Places results on the first page for the country in question. After determining the appropriate search volumes, I simply paste the keywords into "Google Places Pack Finder" and it simply spits out the results for me in a matter of seconds. The software returns all the keywords that result in 0 / 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 10 pack listings on google, so all the listings are well covered. The last time I used the tool, I was researching several niches and I put in just under 500 keywords and the results came out blazing fast. Now I would have gone nuts trying to do all of this by manually checking each keyword by typing it into google.

For those of you who know how to convert 2 pack listings to 3 packs or if you know how to activate a Google Places listing on page 1 for search keywords, I am sure you can see how quick and easy this can be for researching other areas where the listings are active. Just plug in all your researched keywords and hit the "Extract" button! I don't want to turn this post into a course for converting 2 pack to 3 pack and activating places listings of page 1 - but PM me with your email address if you want to know and I can explain.

      I have responded to your contact form email with an explanation. Anyhow, I have also pasted a quick summary to this thread too.

      Quick reply: Use the free pack finder to find keywords that show 1 or more packs - umm!! nah, let me illustrate with an example (this is a fake example I have made up on the fly, so may not be correct if you check in google)

      Lets assume you are wanting to activate the 1 pack for your target keyword hair dressers glendenning (obviously there is no pack showing up for this keyword right!). Now load the pack finder and put in hair dressers locationname for all sorts of locations that are near glendenning (pick the locations from google maps). If there are none showing at least one pack, forget about it. If some are showing at least one pack, take a look at the place pages for these carefully and compare to what is unique in the place pages for your target kw. I have just made these little changes and wala, there was the one pack in no time. This is not a 100% science, but it has worked for me. Good luck.
