Google Boost Ad, Google Changed Its System

Did you guys see the new addition to Google Places? They now let you do a Google Boost Ad. I went into a clients listing, changed some things, and then right before I submitted it, I was asked to possibly create a Google Places Boost AD. It says that you can be at the top of Google Places, and above it , like a PPC ad. ALso it displays your ad on the right side like adword campaigns. YOu pay by the clicks. It looks like the google places 'balloon' turns to a blue color if you choose to do this.

OMG, now what? DId we just lose our offline consulting gig?? Everyone will just pay this amount to be at the top of the Google Places listing.

Are we out of a job?

Yep, I posted about this last week. I will not be concerned until the whole front page is paid ads only. (if that ever happens) Also, the Google Boost ads don't look like regular Google Places -- no reviews or Place page attached.

"Normal" people don't know how to do it or don't want to learn - most probably vast majority will ask someone to do it.

    Just like everything else...

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

  • Yes, I suppose. But once they find out that your charging $149 per month to rank their places listing and then they see that they could get it ranked by google for $75 per month, etc.

Could you pay for boost and then also have the other listing in GP's rank high?

    Anyone have any other comments.

Search "dentist columbus ohio" and you will see two Boost ads at the top.

  • I see that now. Hidden a bit in the PPC area. Now what happens when you use your phone to text google and it sends back the top 3? Is it going to send back the PPC boost ad or just the red places listings?

I'm not too concerned. My monthly retainer is less than the boost cost for more of a benefit.

Also, I noticed that if you're running Adblock, the google boost ad shows up on the map, but not the search results.

For High Ticket businesses like lawyers and dentists, it doesn't make much sense to pay that boost fee, however you could use it in your favor. Tell your clients that for a premium, you can get them ranking on top from day one. Sell them the boost ranking, and after you finish their places page optimization and it's ranking organically, discontinue it.

  • Hi guys, what have you seen for Google BOost prices? Can you check your clients options? I live in a smaller area and my clients do not get the searches that a larger city gets. Google bases that price on searches. I have one business that Google said it would cost about $100 per month.

    What have you seen?
