General Contractor Keywords

Ok guys. So I don't typically do any offline prospecting but I get local business contacts who want to copy what I've done for my own businesses and build a strong online presence as well. I just got a general contractor and I was wondering what keywords you would use besides just 'general contractor + city' or 'contractor + city'. There is such a range of services they offer that I want to rank them all.

For local SEO is there really any difference for building links for 'keyword + city' versus the reverse of 'city + keyword'?

Typically, I find the business is self explanatory. Using a chiropractor for example, there really aren't that many keywords or keyword variations. However, in this case, I don't want to leave out any of their sub-niche services.

What keywords come to mind for you for a general contractor?

I just want to make sure I'm not leaving any out and the Google keyword tool doesn't seem to be all that helpful in this particular instance. Thanks in advance for all the awesome warrior help.

You want to be pretty specific with your keyword research. I've done some for a previous client and found that things like remodeling contractor, bathroom remodeling contractor work well. Can they get more specific what they specialize in...?

Same here. Residential Remodeling is one. If they like to specialize in bathrooms or kitchen + remodeling can be a popular. So...

    kitchen remodeling city state
    bathroom remodeling " "
    residential remodeling " "

    Hope that helps.

I would ask if they specialize in anything, or what's their highest paying type of jobs.

Example do they like bathroom remodeling, kitchen remodeling, pools and backyards etc.

Thanks a lot. I hadn't even thought of the very obvious remodeling.

My battle testing is showing the business owner gets more calls when the keyword phrase syntax is Keyword + Geographical Area.

Sometimes we can rank them for Geographical Area + keyword phrase... and it ranks, but generates fewer calls (and leads are what they're paying us for, they're not paying us to simply get em to rank, the whole idea from their perspective is they want the damn phone to ring)

    general contractor keywords?

I've found it easier to rank for what I'll call a "peripheral keyword phrase":

case in point... it was near impossible to rank for "home remodeling frederick md"
HOWEVER... ranking for "custom home painting frederick md" netted us an easy kill, What surprised the hell out of me is that doing so, helped or made much easier the ranking for "home remodeling frederick md"

(Google is gonna see this and this WF post is gonna show up in SERPS... that will be both good and bad for me)

Maryland is the richest state in the US, Montgomery County Maryland is one of the few counties in the US where property values actually went up when the rest of the country went to hell in a handbasket.

Even so, home remodelers income plummeted, I know competent contractors who used to build custom houses that are now doing handyman work: the home remodeling consumer can cherry pick a contractor.. big difference in pre housing crash and post housing crash
