Client Site Down - Odd

One of my client's sites is down. I noticed because I have some emails set up in Outlook from when I was sorting out some email problems they had.

A few months ago a similar thing happened -turns out that they hadn't renewed the domain name. I got them to do so, at least I assumed that they'd successfully done so.

Whois is showing their info as the registrant but has nameservers as dns1.name-services.com up to dns5.

Have phoned the client but no reply at the moment.

Don't like going to clients with problems, would much rather be saying - "here's the problem and here's the solution"

Anyone point me in the right direction please?

Tony

Just to add - when I type in their url I get a page that says "under construction" and the dns was previously set to point to my hosting account.

When a domain expires, the nameservers are automatically changed to those of the domain registrar. When renewing the domain, the owner must point the nameservers to those of the hosting company.

Have the customer change the nameservers to those of your hosting account.

Makes sense, the thing I hadn't taken into account, given that the renewal was done a few months ago, was that the dns would change now.

Yes Moxil is right, you need to change the nameservers pointing back to your clients hosting.

Don't panic if you don't see the website back as you change the nameservers as it can take upto 4-48 hours to do so. The time taken is to propagate the nameserver through the internet.

Yes, I get that, just didn't understand how it got changed without either myself or my client initiating it.

Turns out that the domain is blocked currently. The client was emailed a few weeks ago to respond to a fraud allegation on the account and asked to pay $200 to re-instate the domain. The email was in their spam folder.

Apparently there was a transaction on the account of $200 at the end of December which was subsequently charged back. Client knows nothing about it - I know them well so I'm certain that's the case.

Still trying to get to the bottom of it.

It's not - it's the same company that I always use and have had no problems with.

What was the client doing that his account got flagged for fraud?
