Question About Keeping Offline Clients Happy?

Hi,

this offline stuff sounds good but I have one issue. What if you say rank a resturant for a search term of say "best pizza in new york" on the 1st page of Google and you charge $500 for that at a flat rate. But now 2 weeks the site drops to the 3rd page then what?

Do you got to figure out the problem or what? Just seems like a lot of clients could end up unhappy with things like this happening. I have some good ideas but I know I seo rankings bounce around. Thanks

As long as you can deliver on your promises; I guess you can charge the flat rate and a small monthly fee to continue SEO activities for the keyword.

Monthly maintenance is where it is at.

First, I wouldn't go with a flat rate. you need to build in re-occuring for that kind of service.

Second, re-occuring service should not be limited to SEO. Work in some direct/email marketing on a monthly basis. Even if a keyword slips, you can still show that restaurant a considerable spike in weekend receipts because of the email special that you sent out on Thursday to his entire customer base.0

better off doing a moderate monthly charge..direct email marketing is good. Help them figure out a way to get their custoemrs to provide you with their emails or facebook pages.. create away to follow up with their customers for them. Most brick and mortar people only market like brick and mortar people..ie direct mail or coupons. But if you were able to help them get one tiem customers to return to their store by collecting data from them and staying touch with them this would be huge and inexpensive for them.

set up a twitter page.. help them self promote. some of the most successful retail locations have really taken to online marketing to help their offline business.

You have to set your clients expectations right. I think the best way to go about it would be to first explain that SEO isnt science and most of the time, we just adhere to the proven concepts and everyday is a new day to discover. Maybe its temporary, maybe its not. Who knows, right?

After youve explained that, maybe you could pinpoint the reason why it went down. what happened? What can you do to get it back up. Seriously, customers require that they be kept in the know. its how we all keep business
