HELP! GOT MY FIRST TELEPHONE APPOINTMENT WITH THE OWNER LATER ON TODAY...

Guys

After making a few phone calls yesterday, I managed to get chatting to the owner of a hair salon. She explained that she hasn't currently got a website but has been quoted by another business.

I explained that I had been trying to find her on the internet after having seen her shop open a few weeks ago, but couldn't find her anywhere. I told her that I currently have a special offer running until the end of February where I am offering a 5 page website for half price...

When i said this, she was very interested and told me to call back the next day at 3pm...which is not today - i only hav a few hours left!

So, my plan...

- Offer her a 5 page website for £599
- Content for £150
- Hosting including 1 email address £20 per month? (i need some help on this...read on...)
- Images FREE

I will start off with that for now. I can talk to her about further products such as SEO once the site is done, as I don't want to put all this on her in one go...

Now, in terms of Hosting...i currently have a hostgator account where I add all my affiliate blogs and websites for my own business...I was thinking of using the same account to add her site...but a friend of mine mentioned earlier that hostgator have a reseller account for around $40 per month...has anyone used this service before? And if so, how does it actually work?

Also, what if the client asks me for a contract? I don't have one as of yet?

Would be great if I could get some feedback from you guys...

Thanks!

First off, good luck with the phone call and I hope you get the deal.

I have my own web design business and am very familiar with the industry. I was in similar shoes when I started and understand your concerns.

As far as the plan you are offering, I must admit that you charge a heck of a price. Great for you if you get the deal under the hood but my research shows that I can get a professional site created for much less. Keep this in mind as you said this would the reduced price. Especially in web design, where your competition is global, you may wanna think of hooking your customers first with an attractive price and good quality and then later on increase the price as you go on working with them.

The SEO implementation is absolute key in your work and I think it's great you offer it to her as part of your package.

The hostgator reseller account is pretty straightforward.
After signup you will be given access to the HostGator reseller control panel, Web Host Manager. WHM will allow you manage and provide your customers with their own user control panels (cPanel) which will enable them to create and modify their own web sites. Once your customer is logged into cPanel they are able to control sub domains, email addresses, passwords and much more without requiring any assistance!

You don't need a reseller account. Just sign her up for a separate, dedicated account that your directly manage and pay for (she doesn't need to know any of the details about that). This is a far more simple and clean process for you.

Hey, good luck with it all... a word of warning on hosting clients on YOUR HG Acct. That a no, no apparently under their T&C's! As Nic said, sign her up under her own acct. (I think you may even get affiliate commission too!)

PS. Good to see posts being quoted in good Ol' UK Groats LOL!

    Hi guys,

Phonecall didn't go so well, as she said she already had a website that someone was creating for her (so y the heck did she ask me to call her today? :-s). She didn't even make any sense...i asked her what her website address is and she said she didn't know? lol...then she said she wasn't going to do anything with her website for atleast a month so i should call back then...

er...think she was a little confused!

Anyhow...i've been calling more business and have more telephone appointments made. Not gonna let that phonecall get me down...I'm going to keep taking action - i KNOW i will get my first sale soon

@ Margy0110...my prices are high? really? What kind of prices do you usually charge? I have now decided to include the domain name, hosting, and 1 email address within my package.

Yeah. You gotta strike while the iron is hot.

A person might be ready to write a check one minute and do a website..., then 10 minutes later after your phone call someone walks in their office and says "We are late on our taxes look how much we owe..." or "So and So just refunded and it cost us a thousand dollars...", or "Hey I dont know why you'd want to pay for a website... talk to my son first, he'll do it for practically free...".

Now you call back in right after that meeting
... and the customer is feeling like "Maybe I dont need to worry about the website just now... I have other concerns...".

So nail em for the appointment every chance you get instead of a call back if possible.

In the end though what just happened to you WILL happen daily, as customers are fickle... It happens to everyone including me. You will get about 5 or 6 nearmisses for every HIT, its just that making a habit of trying to nail them down when they are hot minimizes it.

Good taking action!!! Go for it!

At £750 for a 5 page website, you'd be advised to have some great examples in your portfolio to show people - particularly if you really think that's half price.

Personally my standard prices are less than that for up to 12 pages fully (on-site) seo'd, google places, domain name, analytics, email set up etc. But there's always a monthly fee for hosting/support.

If you haven't got any clients yet, price your first one up so that it's a bargain for the client, then ask for referrals. I did my first 4 sites for 1/3 of the price that I now charge, gradually increasing the price as I became more confident.

Of course, you may be able to justify your proposed fees, both to yourself and to the client in which case - happy days all round.

    Tony
