Google Places Does Not Update Information

Hi All,

I did a few updates to one of my listings and the updates do not register with the live Google Places/Maps; however, they do appear correctly in my Google places account. It's been over a week now and I'm not sure what's going on.

Here's what I did:
1. Changed one word in the company name (it did not trigger re-verification) - Old company name is still displayed.
2. Changed all of the images - now my old images are gone and new images do not appear. There are 10 empty place holders in the live listing. New images are hotlinked from another website instead of manually uploaded to Google.
3. Changed the URL to a new website. Old website still appears in the live listing.
4. Old business hours, categories still appear on the live listing.

I did not make changed to the phone # or the address of the listing.

My listing had the updated information on live G Places and G Maps for about 6 hours immediately after the update and went back to old information after that. It still displays old information when I make changes to the listing now.

Has anybody seen this before?

I have a similar experience where google is not seeing all the citations created all over the web even though they are indexed in the organic search version. Its been 4 month. I have tried all the things suggested on the forum but nothing worked so far. I have a bad feeling goole places page gets updated every 6month.

Yep, I have that problem too. I'm not too concerned about it yet because I think Google factors in those citations if they are indexed. I could be wrong tho. I searched the board and I couldn't find a definitive answer for it.

The Big G will find the Citations in time and even those that are not listed seem to help the GP ranking.

Have you searched for a dupe?

Sometimes when you edit a listing, instead of changing the main listing, G creates a temporary dupe with all the new info, then at the next update (typically every 2 weeks) the 2 will merge and your new info will be updated.

To check to see if you have a dupe, search MAPS for your phone # in the format it's entered in your dashboard.

As for citations - they have not been showing up in Places very consistently, IF at all, for months now. But many of the industry leaders I've talked to about it feel pretty certain, G's keeping count, she's just not showing them on the Place page. Probably to try to make it harder for people like me to reverse engineer the algo.

If you don't have a duplicate issue going on, give the mighty G a chance to find your changes. They will.

Just like Google does not show a sites total number of backlinks, I believe it's doing the same thing with citations displayed in a Places listing. I have listings that rank well but still don't show any of the citations in the actual listing itself. I am sure these citations are being counted though.

Give it some time to show updates but don't be worried if they don't appear.

I have a customer with an issue of an old listing (slightly different business name) that Google created a second/new listing instead of updating the original one. We too can see the correct information in the account but not live. He's getting nothing from GP because of it. We're waiting, assuming it's a time issue like some other sites.
