Social Marketing for Art Gallery

I finally got started in offline marketing and posted a simple ad on Craigslist stating I'm offering my offline services to small businesses. I got several inquires within a couple of hours and am working with an art gallery that needs help with their social marketing plan.

They have a Facebook Fanpage but not many of their friends seem to be active and they also have a YouTube account and are posting videos without many views. They're seeking to get more media exposure and said they want "mass media" exposure.

I'm thinking of driving traffic to these pages because they have interesting art but I'm not sure if traditional online marketing methods would work for what they want.

Has anyone worked with a gallery owner or with a similar business?

There is a lot you can for this gallery. Sounds like they want a full PR campaign. So you identified the need for Facebook marketing and video marketing. What about their website? Do they have a blog? Press releases are a standard not only for online but to local media. You can search for local tv, radio and newspaper outlets to put on your list for distribution.

Can you share with us about your CL ad? Getting immediate hits is great!

Creativegirl gave you some great options to think about. I'm going to add my thoughts to the mix.

I'm no expert on art galleries but I do know they have artists who display art and customers who view and purchase art so I'm wondering if they're attracting artists who the public finds interesting? If not that's a great place to start. Focus on making the gallery a place where successful artists want to be seen.

On the customer side of the equation I'd suggest using good old offline media. TV stations are always looking for human interest stories. If you can give the gallery an attractive angle you might be able to get some coverage. Don't forget about the local papers as well as those that specifically cater to the art/music scene.

Video marketing is a good idea. Put videos be both on their site and you tube. Use a video site map and properly tag. Makes it easier to show up in search results.

Here's some other ideas. How about a podcast? Maybe something along the lines of teaching artists what they need to do to get into a gallery.

How about offering art lessons?? Get's the local community into the gallery (in addition to bringing in additional funds) and increases exposure.

These are just a few ideas from the top.

      Hope they help.

I am working with a Gallery owner as well in Socal. I set up blog, facebook, twitter, youtube, etc.

Basically the startegy for him is to do a video blog feauturing a different artist and him talking about the art he is selling. Kinda like a QVC online for art. Using bookmarking, classified ads, videos, etc will drive raffic to his site to sell more art. Think like Gary Vaynerchuk from Wine Library TV but for art: Wine Library TV: Gary Vaynerchuk's daily wine video blog
