Can Using Redirects and Google Analytics Be Enough for Tracking QR Codes?

I thought of this in-house system to track the traffic to QR Codes. Does it make sense? If so, what is it lacking compared to paid third party tracking systems?

First, install Google Analytics on my WP site that has my business name. Create the QR Code to go to a specific page on that WP site, and use the “Post Links To” plugin (which also works for pages) to redirect to a mobile site.

On the mobile site itself, use GA there too to see what the visitors actually did and what action they took.

For example, say I put QR Codes on business cards, posters, and stickers, and want to track the results.

I'd create these 3 pages:
mybusinessdomain.com/card
mybusinessdomain.com/poster
mybusinessdomain.com/sticker

All would link back to the same mymobilesite.mobi or m.mobilesite.com URL though the use of the "Post Links To" plugin.

Would that work to track the different QR Codes traffic for the different media used?

Thanks

Why not just use a qr code service that has analytics? What your trying to do sounds complicated

    Jay,

You have the right idea. There is no need to pay a monthly fee as has been suggested. I'm not sure why you wish to create redirects though? Why not just create mobile friendly pages and link to those directly?

Here is a link to some more info on using QR codes with Google Analytics

I think that you are complicating it. If I have got it right, you want three different codes connecting to the same URL (your mobile site). In that case there is no need to create the web pages for that. Just create three QR codes with three different names and put the same URL in all the three of them. You will be able to track them separately.
