What do you say on the phone to get to the owner? Also, how do you start off, and what do you tell them to keep them interested?

techlover - Scott gives his phone script on pg 26, post #1280. If you take the time and read through the thread, you will find all the info you need to go out and start making sales and build the sites. There is a wealth of knowledge here.

Thanks for the feedback. When I search on my android phone say for example "hair salon city" and click on the sites on pages 1-2 none of them seem to have a mobile version since I get their regular site on my smartphone and no m.domain url. Of course this means I have more prospective clients to call and try to sell them a mobile site, but since none of them have a mobile site already I can't show them a competitor's mobile site to compare. How should handle that? Should I use one from a nearby city if they have a mobile version? Any insight?

Just thinking out loud here but.....

With the newer Smart Phones -- don't they have a build in app or one that is free to download that will automatically re-size a website to view on a mobile phone with NO scroll bars?

Is this basically what this software does....re-size the website or does it rebuild a smaller version?

Please let me know -- Thanks

Tom

Thanks! long time in the making!

Our program is only $25/mo for hosting, platform access, qr code generation/management, short url services, themeing tools and no coder necessary UI and CMS --- our resellers and white label partners sell the mobile sites they build using our platform for anywhere from $300-$1000 depending on the complexity of course -- we don't stop our reseller from making a grip of cash... we just have some great tools to help them

Hmmm great tips actually --- im going to meet with my developers today. We're going to add a feature that makes that easy and make sure it works on all phones!

Just resizing the site will still leave it difficult to read and navigate plus it won't have one of the main benfits of a customised mobile website...1-click /tap call and email buttons.

Hi Tom

We build custom mobile websites. While there are some apps etc that resize it is going to be hard to read or even worse you have to change the whole site so that it works.

I have tried apps etc and most of them work fine if you have a one column website. Unfortunately this is not the case for many sites and I am sure you would not want to redesign a site when you can just build a new one that takes advantage of the mobile phones features.

I think the best approach is to show them a sample mobile site in their same industry, even if it's from another city. Major cities like New York have tons of businesses with mobile sites so it shouldn't be a problem to find one.

Focused so hard on setting appointments over the phone that I had no clue what to say once I showed up...And got tossed out pretty quickly on my first two appointments...have to laugh I guess.

Anybody got scripts or presentation outlines for mobile sites they use?

Do you take visuals in with you or just show them stuff on your mobile.

Thanks for the help...

How I found my way to getting clients was cold calling...where I found it easiest for me was calling companies that have placed offers from Living Social, Gilt City ect..I go after restaurants, hair salons and jewelery stores...here is my pitch

"my name is Scott Herrera and I'm a local business owner, I saw your website this morning, but noticed you don't have a mobile website.

I would like to share with you how mobile marketing could enhance customer accessibility to your business and provide you with potentially hundreds of new and returning customers every month."

I will create a home page of your current site for you that is mobile ready all I ask is for a 10 minute meeting to share the value of mobile marketing."

My main agenda is to get 10 min appointments..I make 20 calls I get 1-2 meetings...I do it 4 times a week Mon-Thur out of 5 10 min. meetings I get 2 closed.

When I go to the meeting I bring a one page mock up of their site...that visual works seeing their site on a smartphone vs the mock up..they are taken back...and quickly realize they need it.

Now I am getting referrers from my clients..So not having to cold call as much...

I will assure you that mobile marketing is goldmine untapped in our local market.

Hope this helps,

ScottH

Are there any posts on this thread regarding mobile redirect scripts? The one I am using is a simple javascript code, but I recently learned that it does not work on some mobile browsers. Anybody here using codes (free or paid) that can detect the lion's share of mobile browsers out there? Care to share? I'm a code newbie...

Quentin's tutorials are very good. He takes you step-by-step, explaining and showing you exactly what you need to do through the use of video. Even if you've never built a mobile site before, it's not difficult at all with Quentin's teachings.

Thanks Quentin!

First of all, I really like this method. I'm not doing this but may need to start.

Second, I know it goes without saying, but doing this and doing online affiliate marketing are a totally different skill set. This requires true face to face selling, and that's something that very few people can do well.

Next, and you may have mentioned this or do this already, but this is a TREMENDOUS opportunity to sell the Groupon type services also mentioned on this sub forum. You may be able to exponentially increase your income and referrals by doing this.

How would you do it? Easy. Once you've established the relationship with the business owner and delivered the mobile site at a really good value, you could do something like this:

"while I am here, there's just one more thing. Your mobile site is going to be a great asset to you and really shoe you it's value over time. But if you really want to unleash the power of your online presence, have you thought about a living social or groupon deal? Lots of people have totally filled their book of business with it, and I can get you going for no cost to you up front. Would you like to hear more?"

It is unwise to trust all you read on the internet.

Hi "PC",

Both Quentin Brown and WillR have WSOs that contain very good redirect scripts and a ton more great stuff, besides.

Buy either, or buy both like I did...they're both really smart, really helpful guys and their both practically giving you a business model on a plate for next to nothing.

Between the two you'll spend the price of a nice meal for two (speaking of plates), but you will get a wealth of good ideas and techniques....can't go wrong!

Good luck,
GerryLee

This is most likely a stupid question, but what is the easiest and fastest way of finding companies that have used groupon and living social etc?

Thanks Gerry, but I already bought a different WSO with great mobile site building software. I have no problems building great looking sites, but the redirect script included was a bit lacking. I found a link to a free php script on a different thread that looks better, although the client's PC site would have to be written in php. Many are still html. All I need is a good script.

Just go to the websites (groupon.com, livingsocial.com, yelp.com) and contact the businesses you see listed. A lot of them are open and responsive to mobile since they already know the value of online marketing.

This thread is on fire! Some really good stuff here.

Scotth, since you're using Quentin's script to build your mobile sites with, how exactly are you choosing your keywords to add to the code? Keywords, Description etc.

How can we ensure that you are properly search engine optimizing their site? When you first meet with clients for that 10 minute meeting, do they as about SEO?

How can we ensure that visitors are easily finding these mobile websites we have created?

Appreciate your feedback. Thanks!

Mobile SEO can be a multi-edged sword, for me i believe the "rules and guidelines" are far from set in concrete and are still changing and will continue to do so, my own testing has given me my own theories on how SEO for mobile works - both myself and Will and a few others contributed to this thread on mobile seo....

http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...-websites.html

i would personally read everything you can from as many resources you can, so as you can see the different perspectives on the subject, dont take just one persons word on it, check your sources, test, experiment, test again and then decided for yourself what works best for you and gets you the results you need - just like regular SEO, what may work for me may not work for you SEO has never been completely black and white and sometimes thinking outside the box can either make or break you....

in all honesty unless you really get into the nitty gritty of it all your probably better off focusing on optimizing the main domain/website - the odds are stacked against you trying to get your actual mobile url/subdomain listed in the SERPS, however if you main site ranks it shouldn't matter so much since you should have some kind of mobile detect and redirect in place.

hope that helps and good luck!

Interesting but from experience this is not really the case if you are offering something of quality.

When I open Google search facebook, videos etc it can take longer than 5 sec to load and as a mobile user I am used to that.

When I look at my analytics my bounce rates are a lot lower than my desktop sites and I know they take a little longer to load than my desktop sites.

I also notice they stay longer.

Lots of people work on the premise that mobile users are just looking for information so create text based mobile websites which load quicker however I paid a lot of money for my mobile phone so I want an experience rather than just an ascii looking site.

Remember back when screens for computers were monochrome and you had to have basic text sites.

Then they bought in color and windows and all of a sudden sites started to change. Even though we were on 56k modems we wanted to see things in color etc. Some people went overboard but it made the Internet a lot more fun.

There are still people who say websites should have all text and that's fine but again I want the experience not just the information.

It is a fine line between to much and not enough however I believe in providing an experience plus information and this philosophy shows in the stats and has proven great for me and my customers.

That's a great find A. This could be shown when you go to an appointment.

I also agree with you Quentin, i also want experience when landing an mobile website not just text and hard to touch buttons, <<back button links and and hard to navigate sites ... and if the pages size stays within the 50kb that's great also. That's why i got your script and i build my own custom designs and i help others too with whatever i can ... as long as the client is happy and the site's level of mobile-friendliness it's average than you're just fine.

If your talking about mobile web design...Quentins Shrink to Fit Script or WillR Mobile design Templates both are good and perfect for mocks and of course full design!

My bad ---- not a good question, let me try again:

I want to show a (mobile site) prospect how bad their current site looks on mobile and what it could look like -- without designing a complete mobile site for them.....just a mock view.

I want to send it to them via email and bring them a printed before and after graphic. I would also like to sent them to a simulator I could install on my site that they could enter their URL and see it live.

Are any or all of these options possible?

Thanks again

Tom

First you can go here and use this iphonetester.com for a simulator to put on your website go to Quentin he has it I think its like $10 or something.

As far designing a 1 page mock, I just used the script it takes me 10 minutes for a one page mock up.

Dont know how you can get around it with out software or templates. But I never looked b/c this works just fine for me.

I noticed Lynda.com just posted a 6 hour course called "Mobile Web Design & Development Fundamentals". Looks to be extremely in depth.

I go right to the business to show them on my cell phone. And I show them what their regular site looks like on the phone as well. I do the mock up using Quentin's product.

I recommend telling them about the possibilities of mobile marketing and SMS messages and QR codes. These are some of the hottest technologies that businesses can use to set themselves apart from the competition. Pull out all of the stops, and start marketing these services heavily. The business owners will hear the buzz and be knocking down your door to get the service when they hear their competitor just signed up!

Hello Everyone,

Just want to first start by saying this is a fantastic thread that is filled with a ton of great information! Thanks for starting it Scott! While I have been a lurker here for quite some time, I'm going to change that! It's great to meet you all and I will be active here from now on!

My question is, I'm looking for a simulator that I can use to create screenshots of how a regular site looks on a cell phone, but can't seem to find one that fits the site down to the screen like a mobile phone does. Does anyone know of one that can be used for regular sites? The Mobilizer one is fantastic as screenshots can be exported easily, but doesn't display regular sites properly. I searched the forum, but didn't seem to find anything that fits what I'm looking for.

Scott, I noticed that you take an invoice with you to the meeting. Do you print everything out in the fields on the invoice ahead of time, or do you take a blank one and write it out with your client? Or do you use one of the invoice booklets with the carbon copy? If you take a blank one and don't use a carbon copy invoice booklet, how do you have a copy for your records? I created a nice invoice template and was planning on taking it to meetings printed out with the price and everything, but if they wanted additional services or pages, then the price would have to be crossed out and I wouldn't have a copy of the updated invoice for my own records. The same goes with taking a blank invoice and filling it out with the client, I still don't have a copy for my records as I can't expect for them to make me a copy if they have a copy machine. How do you guys handle the invoices when meeting the client (other than electronic invoices)?

Thank you and have a great day!

Sincerely,
Chris

Hi Chris,

I use an invoice template I made in Word with standard terms printed on it and blank spaces to fill out clients contact information and a block to hand write their order and pricing. I bought a ream of 2-part carbonless (NCR) paper that I can use in my inkjet printer from a local Kelly Paper store, but you can also find this online of course. It's already collated with white/yellow sheets, so I print out two copies (one white and one yellow) whenever I need an invoice and use some Elmer's repositionable glue to stick them together. Viola! One copy for you and one for you new customer.

I think Lime Cellular is the best white label SMS marketing platform.

Hi Nick,

Thank you, that's a great idea which I'll definitely do. I already have the invoice template created so will have to get some 2-part blank carbonless paper.

Also, do you use color on your invoice or just printed in black ink? I think I'll print the white copy (customer's copy) in color so it looks sharp and catchy, but will print mine in black to save on ink.

Best regards,
Chris

Hello,

Thanks to all of you for making living this thread and sharing all your experience.
I plan to start this business in France.
To have an idea of what I can eventually reach, I would like to have some info from people here who already run this business:
- prospecting method (cold-calling, visit the prospect, etc...)
- number of call per day
- number of resulting appointment
- number of mobile site you sell monthly
- how many times you physically go to one client (presale, sale, after sale)
- for how long time you run this business
- how do you invoice (good idea Ioalaus !)
- usefull tips and tricks !

I am actually building my own website, of course with a mobile version !
I will keep you inform of the progress of my project
thanks very much
sorry for my poor english
