OK, so I have a couple tech questions - I am using Quentin's product with Kompozer, but I am not sure how to link the phone number so it makes the call. Also, I tried to link the Realtor's listings from his main website, but I keep getting an error. If anyone can help with these tech questions, that would be fantastic.

Hi Katherine,

I use the script too..I just put the number on there no linking...when you look it up on a smart phone it already is linked. Not sure about the listing issue..if you bought Quentins script just email him he will answer your questions

Not sure on the optimization m. vs .mobi.

Chris my main goal with mobile design is my foot in the door..I want to be their internet marketer for everything internet related. Thats where all the money is and recurring.

There are many different ways to get your foot in the door of your local business...also some thread I read here on the WF which now I am implementing...all the businesses that use Groupon ect...paying them 30-50% of the offer is crazy...so from what I learned here on the WF is offer them how they can capitalize on these flash-sale-sites is get their list of buyers onto their own list...once they have a good size list from these flash sites now they can blast them with their own sales offer and not pay any % to these groupons type sites. Just pay me to put a opt-in on their website and mangage their list..hell of lot cheaper! Huge Door Opener.

Hi Scott

Just picked this up from a previous thread and thats why I thought you were offering an hosting option:

hey rolltide...if your experienced in HTML quick...I can create a mobile site using Quentin script in about 1 hour...thats a 4 page site. I am experimenting with different prices...I have been asking for $497 with free hosting for one year...I have also sold charging $397 plus $29.95 per month for hosting...if its a service based business like a restaurant that would have frequent updates I charge $47 to $97 per month. Plus I optimize the mobile site for mobile search.

Yes I was but like I said In other post I am experimenting with different prices..When I first started offering this I was asking for hosting..but I would run into a snag with the biz owner more often then not..."why do I have to host another domain"...I felt by trying to get a residual form them when I know its really no necessary I stopped offering it..I felt like I was taking advantage of them not my goal...My goal is to get their phone to ring and the door to swing!

I just put the numbers without () and it works... but seemingly not on an iPhone 3G. I was getting an oil change at my dealer and had done QR Codes linking #1 to their desktop site #2 to a mockup mobile site I built with the phone number front and center. Somehow, it did NOT work on his phone.

When you present it as hosting, tracking and updates then it makes sense IMO to charge montly fees.

Hi Scotth

Ok this is a fair point, and I'm looking to make money from this for the right reasons, so thanks for your comments.......would not want to rip people off either!! The residual option for me then is more likely to surround the updating option per month, and then SEO and marketing etc...

Many thanks

To sum it up my daily tasks what I do over and over it makes me $!

1. Call Business Owners

2. Valid business reason why they have to have a mobile ready site

3. create (30 mins max) a mobile ready home page version in exchange for a face to face 10 min. meeting.

4. Meeting them...show them their site on a mobile phone then the mobile version...you should get a sale from 50% of your face to face meetings.

ACTION IS THE MAGIC!

Does anyone have success with getting clients without face to face meetings?

I want to do that eventually but don't have time to leave the house right now and travel all over the city.

Great to hear this is turning out to be exactly what you wanted Scott - getting your foot in the door and providing additional services to your clients!

I have my first meeting later today with that real estate agent. I have two mock-ups ready to show him.

Best of luck!

I plan to implement this ASAP. I just need some help on where to host the mock up site?

Any one?

So, my realtor friend John loves the mobile site! He wants me to make a flyer and he will put it in each of the realtor's mail slots ( there are about 30 who work there). I can put a review by him on it. Very cool.
So, I am going to finish John's mobile site tomorrow.
I am having trouble linking the listing page of his main website to the mobile site. I get an internal server error. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this please?
Thanks Katherine

I can see very well how a mobile site makes sense for mobile searches. That is a no-brainer. What I do not quite understand is how you are getting people to access them.

Do you create a completely separate marketing plan for mobile marketing?

Say you have XYZ hair salon, xyzhairsalon.com. You create m.xyzhairsalon.com. People are driving around and Google "hairsalon" Do 2 websites come up in the search? xyz.com and m.xyz.com?

Is there something in the software that differentiates the searching device, mobile, laptop etc. to decide which page to display.

Does it make sense to just use a .mobi domain instead of the m. format you have been talking about? Is there any advantage of using one over the other?

Does Quentins WSO go into these topics?

Very interested in this. I am jumping into this game!

Scotth,

Interesting, I recently tried this approach with a member of staff but to no avail, basically he called as many businesses as he could in the local area to try and drum up some business but unfortunately we had zero leads, nevermind sales.

He was unsupervised though so maybe his pitch wasn't up to scratch, who knows!

Would you be able to talk about this in further detail possibly? Pm me if you like.

Thanks

This is my exact approach...you need to get the leads from Living Social or any flash-sale-site....I make 10 phone calls 2 meetings consistently.

I am finding some very receptive business owners who use Gilt City, Groupon, Bloomspot, Living Social...my successful pitch for getting meetings and interested business owners.

"Hi my name is Scott I am a local business owner, I saw your offer on Gilt City today, but noticed you don't have a mobile website. I'm interested in sharing with you how a mobile website could enhance promotions like these..."

Opens the door for further conversation..I then proceed to tell the biz owner.."I will create a Home page of your current site for you that is mobile ready all I ask is for a 10 minute meeting to share the value of having a mobile ready site."

If you include some encoding in the index page for the xyzhairsalon.com, the code in that page would detect if the user is using a mobile phone and redirect to m.xyzhairsalon.com. So, you don't have to educate the visitor. And, you don't need to purchase a .mobi domain either.

Quentin's WSO does explain the procedure.

Quentin, your emulator plays flash, which is not an accurate representation.

If the biz owners saw how their site REALLY looks like on an iPhone, particularly those businesses with fancy flash sites, like restaurants and hotels, they'd be shocked!

Especially those kinds of businesses really benefit from good mobile sites.

This is one I use as an emulator:
Opera Mini Simulator

Hope that helps!

Hey FreeBird,

First off I call at certain times for certain niches that gives me the best chance the biz owner answers...my opening which did I not mention is "Hi I am hoping you can help me" Then I go into the pitch..and more often than not if there not the main contact they will tell me the best time to call back to reach the owner or manager..if they are not so offering to me I just move on.

Its very simple and once you close your first one then nothing will stop you!

I too have had success with WPTouch but it has been with very simple sites. Just out of curiousisty, Quentin, what does your app do that goes above and beyond that such as WPTouch?

I have been quietly working in the Internet Marketing industry for over 10 years and have become an expert in driving traffic and SEO tactics. I have a new site all about niche marketers and I would love for you to check it out. Don't worry, this site is all about free content, not a sales page.

"You can host it on your domain...www.yourdomain.com/nameofbusiness.html"

Hi Scott, thanks so much for the above info from one of your previous responses - something that I've been trying to figure out too.
I also bought Quentin's course and am finding it FANTASTIC!! Can't wait to start some cold calling following the tips he gives within his course - I'd much rather cold call than phone, I was never very good at telemarketing but do not mind cold calling especially with the way he lays it out for you.
Some additional questions if you don't mind - if they are using their own hosting, and uploading their new mobile site, do they need the redirect script for their online site? Do you give them this script to insert themselves or somehow insert it for them?

Also, using "m.theirname.com" - if I remember correctly, I think
anyone can use this with any domain name without actually having to
purchase it as though it is a new domain name, correct?

And... can you explain more on what you mean by hoping to get on-going fees for "SEO" - is this just by assuring any updated info is keyword rich? I mean, if I understand this, once you optimize your title, description, and tags, there's only the content to optimize - I think!!?? I probably have just enough understanding of all this to be dangerous!

Hope this isn't too confusing! Thanks again Scott for all your great info and to all the others on here contributing so much too.
I really appreciate it!

I got really excited about providing Mobile ready websites a little while back. When I discovered that a google search on a mobile (android) phone already offers the option of viewing the site in a mobile format I figured business owners may be reluctant to shell out for a service they are receiving for nix.
Am I missing something here?
Please let me know if I am approaching this from the wrong perspective as I think this is a huge market.

Scotth, i've just sent you an pm regarding some issues i have.I hope you can help me little bit.
Or anybody here might have an idea how i could sell mobile website to US business without actually meeting them.
I'm from Europe and marketing them over here, in my country simply doesn't works cause there are few to none searches.I can also offer various services which i could pitch over the phone/email like fan pages, design/redesign/, seo , video marketing, google pages sutup and improvements....
If anybody got any idea just let me know, we can talk by skype or phone.

I'm doing it right now by sending out e-mails to small businesses. I haven't had a sale yet but will send out at least 100 before I decide to change my approach.

I'll do face to face eventually but I don't have time to walk around the city visiting various businesses right now.

Hello,

I am building mobile sites for local businesses. They already have thier own header grpahic and would like to use it on the mobile site.

Does anyone know of a good tool that resizes the graphic to fit a droid, iphone, or blackberry. I also need to know the smallest width of the phones as well.

Please help. I need this tool now.

Thanks for the help.

I've found from experience that the conversion rate decreases dramatically when you're emailing (as opposed to visiting businesses or even calling). I'd email at least 300-500 businesses before making a decision whether to stick with this approach, due to the fact that at best, you are probably only going to average a 2% conversion rate (in my opinion, you're doing pretty well if you can hit 2% using email).

Everything is going mobile; there are still a lot of people who cannot afford desktops or laptops but they can afford a smart phone. This is the future. And if businesses do NOT adapt, they will lose money. Most people make buying decisions when they are away from home; they are not sitting in front of the television at home; they are out and about.

Hi Scott, Snag-It from TechSmith is great for capturing screen shots. Not sure now how much it costs but I don't think it's too bad. I got it a few years ago from a discount site online for only about $10.
I just created a mobile header graphic for myself and it's approx. 460 x 200 px. If you're creating the site with kompozer, you can click on the "browse" button without having to upload it to a server to see what it looks like online - you have to drag the screen from right to left to try and simulate the approx. size of a cell phone to get an idea of how it would fit.
The best way to get the right size though is by using Quinten Brown's WSO "Make Money Building Mobile Websites" - sorry, don't have the exact thread to post here but if you search the WSO forum for it you should be able to find it.
It's a fantastic course with video instructions and gives you a script to put in kompozer that automatically sizes the site for mobile for you.
Good luck, hope this helps!

Your welcome Quentin! You do have a great program, probably about the best buy I've made in a long time.

PS - sorry, seems I misspell your name from time to time!!

I guess it must be me I tried 10 different websites from pizza to dentists and every one of the websites fit to size on my Iphone 4.
Is there a way to find businesses where the sites wont fit on my cell?
Thanks

Hey, I am interested in Quentin's mobile program. I Have a question regarding metrics and tracking ROI. I know business owners are going to want to track how much traffic or conversions their getting with mobile devices. Monthly reporting can be a fantastic upsell for this specific service. Does Quentin's program off this? Thanks guys and gals.

ok sent Amanda.

Also check your spam mail as we send a confirmation email.

Gambit

As for tracking you can set up google analytics for this and it will work just like it does for a desktop site. Just enter the code in each page you want to track.

Sam

Most websites will fit your iphone however you have to scroll and zoom to get around which most people hate.

Mobile web and mobile marketing is getting hotter by the day. Consider the open rates of text message (90%+) to email open rates (20%-).

Consider also, that the mobile web is well on it's way to surpassing Internet usage and traffic. If you currently provide online marketing services to local business owners or you have been considring an offline marketing career, mobile is an excellent entry point.
