Read through the thread and it has lots of good info. Thanks for posting this. I have one question. Have these mobile sites made any difference in their business? My experience has been that high organic rankings bring results, as well as a 1st page Places page. As far as Social Media is concerned, and I place Mobile websites in that category, not so much of a return on investment. Facebook can be a good venue to build client relationships. But bottom line, do these mobile websites bring in more business. have you actually tracked any results?

Thanks for the response. Do you know of any hard data/research regarding cell phone website viewing vs. regular internet?

Hi Quentin, I am very interested in this mobile marketing. However, while others are into #G, etc, I only use Tracfone and this is only for emergency purposes. I see on previous comments that if one buys your product, there is tutorials. I would really like to go intoo this business. Do I need to get a new phone so that when learning your tutorials, I have the correct phone? Which phone do you recommend ? Thanks, Estrelita |

Bless you! I was going to commend you because of the advice, inspiration and motivation you have been giving. (and also, to get your permission to seek your advice on marketing should I decide to buy the WSO). I am not too keen on doing person to person marketing but if I know I am giving benefit to the business and can confidently show how mobile marketing works, I will do it. Thanks and have a great week. Estrelita

Scotth, did you find the WSO from Quintin excellent? I have a restaurant that is looking to have me do some seo on there site but also redesign it. I would love to show him his current site on a mobile to show what I can do (or rather what Quintin is going to show me show him) to build my raport with them. Will the WSO easily do this? AJ |

Scott, what do you think are the best businesses to approach? I know you mentioned the LivingSocial and Groupon advertisers. Is there another group that is ripe, such as bar and restaurants? The 20 something crowd spends a nice portion of their income in going out and they are very into technology such as Ipads, Ipods and smart phones. Just wondering if another professional services industry is going to be quick to adopt mobile websites.

I have a "pricing" question; I'm getting ready to "Hit the Hotels"! Every year at this time I go to Hotels/Motels in towns around me and get them to agree to allow me to place my Advertising piece in EVERY room. These are Full Color pieces and I get 1 Pizzeria and fill 6 spaces with restaurants, gift shops or realtors. In a 100 rm hotel I usually get $20/wk from the pizzeria and $10/wk from each of the other 6 spaces....for a total of $80/wk per 100rm hotel. Now....because nowadays, tourists staying in my hotels have a cell phone...it would be MUCH BETTER if they could see my advertiser's businesses ON THEIR CELL....order a pizza....make reservations...see real estate listings....RIGHT THERE....in their hotel room....ON their cell phone. Now....if I were to provide each of these advertisers with a "Mobile-Site" would I be off the track by charging say....$1 per rm per mo? A 100rm hotel = $100/mo per advertiser? What if I offered 250 rms in 3 or 4 hotels.....or 500 rms in 5 or 6 hotels? Could I then charge $250 or $500 a month for this "Service"....providing their Mobi-Website to hotel guests? Just wondering if anyone thinks by placing Mobi-Sites in front of Tourists IN their hotel rms would be worth at least $1 a rm per mo. Thanks, Don Alm |

I would like to contribute to this thread a site I found that will make a mobile site just by clicking the things you want from your full site. I just spent about twenty minutes messing around with it, and was able to produce a mobile version of a site. The site basically loads your full site into the browser window, and it starts you just highlight what you want for the mobile site and then click next, then it produces the mobile version and gives the ability to tweak it, It brings up the CSS and you can adjust things in there. There is a simulator showing the site next to it. You can select items in the simulator and move them up or down, etc. Super easy....but here's the thing, I know nothing about editing css or html, so there were some details that I could not figure out. You'll need some knowledge to get it perfect. It then gives you the redirect code for you to insert into your full site. Even better the basic account is free, BUT there is branding involved. From the preview online it seems to add their company name on the bottom of the page, which if that's all, is not that bad for your local places. To remove branding and get more tools and it becomes out of reach for those providing services to the local market ( starts at $250/per site/per month ) So....if you can stick with the free plan and can manipulate the code with the provided editor, its worth taking a look at. the site :Mobify—The Leading Mobile Web Platform for E-commerce & Publishing |

Scott awesome thread! I s have been having some good success ranking my pool companies website in local search (my day job) and combining this with my wordpress/html/css/SEO knowledge I was thinking about taking my skills to the offline. My brother and I have started a pretty successful content creation company which has led to some wordpress development clients as well. I feel with my experience in both running local marketing for my day job and experience running an online business I could tackle an offline internet marketing company. My only problem is when I go on Craigslist and look at all the adds they are flooded with local SEO service providers and web design firms. I have been trying to figure out what my unique selling point would be tocut through the clutter and offer somethign different. This is when I found this post. If it is as easy as you say and having a pretty decnt grasp on html and css is all that I need I think I could create a real local small biz marketing company. I will be buying the script this week and will make a mobile site for my pool company to use as a demo. So now my questions: Regarding SEO for mobile sites are we indexing and ranking the mobile site or are we just SEO'ing the main site and it will show up in search from a mobile phone. I would assume this is the case as all we are doing is displaying the mobile version of the site when it is accessed by mobile device? So really the upsell SEO services are just straight up everyday local biz SEO? Nothing special for the mobile site. (I guess I answered my own question here.) how do you go about offering the SEO upsell after selling them on the mobile set? Is it just a " If your interested we also offer complete local search enging optimization services" ? thanks again for this amazing lightbulb moment for me. I always knew my end game in IM would be local offline marketing I just needed a way in the door. I sell $100,000 pool projects to clients face to face I think I can sell this and create the business and earning potential that I really want. Sorry for being so long winded, I just got really excited after reading this entire thread! |

As far as pricing goes. Do you think many places don't have a mobile site because they think it may be too expensive? Think back to when websites were pretty new and they cost a ton of money. maybe a mailer to some target businesses that actually says something like " you can have a 4 page mobile website like this one (and put an example site) for $399.00!" Might make many businesses say "wow - I can swing that!"! Just a thought. |

Hi Scott....I can offer local restaurants an "Audience" of "3,600 Hungry" people, with money, "Looking for a place to eat!"....every month! These "3,600 Hungry People" (with money) looking for a place to eat are TOURISTS staying at 3 80rm Hotels in my town. These "Tourists" (with Cell Phones) see MY Ad Piece on the in-room TV (It's a TV Channel Guide).....they see where they can "Dial Up" the restaurant websites...right on their cell phones...see what the place looks like....what they serve...where they'd located....reservation #....etc. 3, 80rm hotels = 240rms Figuring just 50% occupancy is 120rms a day x 30 = 3,600 Tourists a month. Would restaurants be willing to pay $240 a month ($1 a rm per mo) to reach an audience of 3,600 Tourists a month? The restaurants could then use the mobile site I set up for local consumers. Just trying to get an idea of how to price this service. Thanks, Don Alm |

Showed my client her mobile site at this morning's BNI meeting and she LOVED it! Not hard because her site is flash, I am re-designing that too. When it was her time to talk she gave me a great testimonial about mobile sites. I have only done my site and the dentist's and just have not felt confident that I can do them so I did a local restaurant's site for practice and plan to sell it to them tomorrow. After 3 sites, I finally got it down! I can build them, now I have to sell them. I guess I have been thinking this quote would come true... "If you build it, they will come" |

Hey Scott, thanks so much for creating this thread. I have learned a ton! I have one question about Quentin's Mobile course. Does he teach how to place the script on the site itself? Is there an FTP tutorial? These are my weak points when it comes to setting sites up. Thanks, Steve |

No there is no tutorial for transferring your site to the biz. owners hosting account...but its very simple...once you do the first time you will go "Boy That was Easy"....it would take me to long to explain it here...but when you go to the business owners hosting account you can call customer service and they will walk you through it or you can go to Youtube and type in "How to Create a SubDomain in cPanel" Hope that helps, ScottH

OK - I came - I saw - I bought! Great stuff for sure. Some a little over my head but I think on the second go round I will get it. I own a site for my brick and mortar biz - grout911 dot com (can't post links yet) - will maybe play around with that one. Here is a question - when I name that site what would I use grout911dot com/mobile since I already have the plain .com set up? I also stopped a new local Pizza place - pulled the site up on my Blackberry and it came up really nice - looked like it might be mobile enabled - no side to side scrolling. I then put it in the emulator and it came up crappy - scrolling all over the place to view it. Just wondered why that was. |

I know how to create a sub domain, it just looks as if we're going to need access to the client's hosting account and website (for re-direct code)? That was my concern and has been since day one. Scott and Quentin have actually sold these and they don't seem to be having any problems. I have no more excuses. Time to sell some mobile websites! |

I'm still having problems with the redirect script - placing it right after the <head> tag but nothing happens. I'm trying to redirect users on mobile phones from my pc site to my mobile site and users on a pc from my mobile site to my pc site. I'm using the java script that Quentin provides but for whatever reason it just doesn't seem to work for me - could just be me but I think I'm using it correctly. I've looked for other scripts as well but I can't find one that I can understand clearly enough to use - when it comes to technology jargon I'm lost. Any one have a script that's working and easy to use/understand? |

I've had great success with both cold calling, and direct mailing. Conversions were better with direct mail. I can't give you all of my secrets :p but one of the best ways to sell is to get the meeting WITHOUT letting them know it's a mobile website. You always want THEM to contact YOU. You'll have alot more conversions that way and you'll be positioned as the expert; and most importantly to some, it will be more comfortable. Think about it - if they have to call you - they're interested in what you've got to say - making it an EASY sale! Know what I mean? If you run into any specific sales questions, please don't hesitate to shoot me a PM or post it up here in the thread for all to see - I can't believe I'm so late in seeing this thread! Been in the mobile game for about 2 and a half years now, and love the direction it's going. I do development and sales, so I'm here to help if you've got any questions at all in regards to either side of the equation! Ryan

Hello everyone, I just used this script without any problems for a redirect to my mobile site. <script type="text/javascript"> if(screen.width < 600){ window.location = "http://yourmobilesite.com"; } </script> Obviously just replace the "yourmobilesite.com" with your URL. You need to place the code somewhere in the head tag of your site. ex. <head> paste script</head> anywhere in between these will work......or so its supposed too If you would like to see how it works click on this link http://accuratemediasolutions.com. Also type the url into your cell phone to see the redirect. BTW, this is just a sample site and not done for the public just yet Thanks again to Scott for starting this thread and for everyone who has been contributing. I have learned a lot. Regards, Steve |
