Local Businesess & Domain names for good SEO

Hi Warriors!
How do you help local small businesses who want great organic ranking but insist on using their existing business name (e.g. joesplumbers.co.uk) as their domain name?
I have explained to them that they most probably need an exact match domain for a specific keyword with high searches & low competition to get good rankings but they insist on using their own name or business name as their new website's domain (its probably a sentimental thing for them i guess to use their long standing "brand name" as a domain)
Appreciate any suggestions here
Thanks a stack!!
Regards
stephen

In that case, you will need to build and optimize pages based on those keywords into their website.

    Example: joesplumbers.co.uk/leedsplumber
    joesplumbers.co.uk/plumbersinmanchester
    joesplumbers.co.uk/bestplumbersinoxford

Give each keyword phrase it's own page, then optimize it using meta desc, meta title, keyword tag, h1 tags, etc.. for that keyword.

Then, make sure your content for that page uses the phrase 3 to 5 times as well.

Or you can just buy the domain and create a small site based on the keyword then point it to the main site.

Or do as DT mentioned and optimize around the keywords. I don't know why people seem afraid to get sites ranked that are not an exact match domain. It's really not exponentially more difficult, especially for local services where you get a little boost just for being local.

In addition to optimizing on page factors, get a ton of good quality backlinks from a variety of sources and be patient. Plus, for their immediate area, they should have a well optimized GP listing, right? This is going to work hand-in-hand with their website.

A lot of local businesses can be optimized and ranked purely with ON PAGE SEO. If that doesn't do the trick, then all you need is backlinks. Doesn't matter if it has a keyword in the domain or not. It just makes it easier if they go for it.
