Retainer for baklinks building

I am sending my first proposal to a business
My question is whether for backlink building on a monthly basis you charge the money upfront or at the end of the month?

Also, a related question: if I outsource some of it, will I pay upfront or not?

    Client pays in advance for any monthly services (link building, blog articles, etc.). I also request 30 days advance notification, should they want to upgrade, change or discontinue monthly services.
