Oh Yeah! Got My First Client, So Don't Be Rude!

What I mean by this is don't be rude to the person who answer the company's phone as you may be able to drum up some business like I did.

Here's what happened:

The guy who answered the phone asked what my call was pertaining to and I told him. He comes back and tells me he doesn't know if the owner is interested but that he is starting a T-shirt design business.

He asked about my services and what I offer, so I pitched him.

He said ok, what do I need to do?

I asked him questions about his business so I could create the content for his site. It's a 5 page website at $599.00 plus $29.95 a month for hosting. Residual income baby.

Transitioned into the close and asked him when I could pick up a check. He says, "Come on by right now."

So I went by there this morning, picked up the check, and cashed it.

This call happened around 9:30 this morning and I had a check in my hand by 11:00.

My point is, I got business from the person who answered the phone, not necessarily the business owner who I called originally.

And another thing, do not worry about conversion rate. It only took me between 200-250 calls. Keep motivated and plugging away. It will happen, believe me.

Take that to the bank!

Have fun,

South Bay Bones

Great job! Your experience also falls into the "don't judge a book by its cover" category. You never know what the person you're talking to may have planned for the future.

    Will

      Hi Qamar, thank you.

The first thing I'm doing is signing up for a reseller account through Hostgator. I'm using Wordpress to build this site. The client does not need a lot of content right now as he is just starting out.

I'm doing this myself as it won't take me but about an hour or so. When he is ready to fill up his site, I will outsource the content side of it.

For most clients, it will be something I outsource if the entire site needs to be done.

      Hope that answers your questions.

You can do this Qamar. BELIEVE that you can do it!

I originally didn't want to go the telemarketing route. And I would have to say 99% of people are very nice and wish you luck if they're not interested.

And that's why I didn't want to do telemarketing. Hearing no's all day long. But it's not like that. You don't need to pitch everyone.

What I suggest you do is pick up John Durham's "Offline On Crack." It's free. Listen to it and take action. That's what I did.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

This is good, this is great!

In my case, I have Ryan Shaw's product and it is a good fit to my style.

        For aspirants...

A route you may choose: ASK YOUR FRIENDS IF THEY WANT TO HAVE AN ONLINE BUSINESS. Chances are, they may already be interested but just do not know where to come about this. If your friends may not be interested, just ask for the contact info of people they know who are in business.

And just like South Bay Bones - and you will hear / read this everywhere in this forum - take action!

Hope you find that which you seek!

Thanks for the reply. I am about to finish the "Offline On crack" audio course and I have to admit that this Free audio course is powerful. For a person like me who has never tried Telemarketing before, listening to the audio really gives me the confidence need to start this business. Thanks to John Durham!

I love reading these! Can't wait to hear about number 2!

As a person who answers phones for an attorney I can totally relate... My boss make the decisions, but for all techie stuff my recommendation carries almost absolute weight.

Awesome job Southbaybones. I am very happy for you. Keep after it. I think your pricing is good. $499 to $599 is about right for a 5 page site, especially if it's killer when its done. I thought about $299 but then I have to sell twice as many! 5 hundy is not a big amount for most businesses. It may even be a steal.
