yup its been working well for my own offline business(interior painting) , as well as for my offline clients ( e.g plastic surgeons,dentists,aircon-repairmen,locksmith) - mostly in the realm of click to call.

I am actually getting into what this entails. I have worked with it on the development side and have been discussing it with prospects and clients. One of the things that interests me is GPS location specific marketing and based on location and time of day, promotions are sent. I don't know if that is what you are after, but that is one thing that really interests me from both angles. One of course buying the media time, and then also offering the service as well as the actual backside operations. When I have set out the scenario as it was explained to me, I always get wide eyes from business owners. Click to call sounds interesting, and what I was familiar with is the idea of sending out notices/special offers to customers based on them being in a close proximity and time of day.

From the developer side of things we call all of this sensor based segmentation. There are services out there offering it, but the thing is that gets me is if you just consider the "sensors" available you can come up with all sorts of ideas how to market it. Besides customer data, you also have GPS location, speed, direction, time etc. What is really going to blow it up is when you can track whether they are actively spending money and if they have habits of spending money during certain days and certain times.

As of right now, I notice that business just needs to realize this in the simplest manner. Get them to signup for just "click-to-call" then get them excited about placing a majority of their online presence in a "app" perspective rather than a "page" perspective.

So, it is one thing to send out a coupon or small action based on a sensor; it's another to rebrand their site as an "application" that customers can use on their mobile device. For instance, I tell people I can take to a cake shop, and make an app that is a "super cake decorator". This is simple a mobile based joomla template, that links to an app that manages graphics, sends in an order and the receiver can figure out how to make the cake to order. For those that have been around, you will notice this is just a modern interpretation to "send order by fax", but it is perceived as something slightly fun or more convenient for the customer. Also, once you have that in place, the click to download can be made and people are likely to play with it even if they don't purchase right off. What really got me going on this was how many people order custom cookies and cakes every day.

Sorry if it looks like I veered off, but the point is this: it is great that you can use mobile marketing, but if you can figure out how to "app" your target and THEN tie it with the mobile clicks - that can explode.

The trouble with Apps is that Apple is now clamping down unless you have good content.

Not only this but we made a great app for mechanics that allowed clients to track their fuel consumption, log last services tyres etc.

We wanted to rebrand it for different businesses and apple canned it saying duplicate content.

Now we could do it for droids etc but now just looking at making it a mobile website and branding it that way.

But you don't need to put it on the Itunes store, right?

Your client's customers would be offered the app through a download link on the website or whatever.

As far as I understand, you can have an iphone app without itunes.
you submit to itunes to have it exposed to the world at large.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is my understanding.

Some great content in this thread already!

      what about QR codes guys?

      cheers

Unfortunately no, and this is what i believe will be one of the killers for the iPhone, Apple are to controlling over what they release. But it is a good idea for the Android market and other smart phones.

It is very possible but I can tell you it is not going to happen without a lot of hard work...I've been doing SMS marketing for 8 or 9 months now and am just now getting to a good revenue stream. If you are looking at getting into it my advice is be ready to spend 3-4 months of hard work so you can start to see rewards in 6-8 months.
            At any rate, Good luck,
            b

It's definitely the wave of the future both for offline and online-mobile (depending on the product/service). We'll soon get over the hurdle of paying for things through our phones once our mobile payment solutions become common place (Asia is already there).

Many CPA networks now have mobile offers but the marketing is different than online. OfferMobi is 100% dedicated to mobile CPA and provides some education/webinars.

Grin, I am interested in the "sensor based segmentation" to accompany the standard SMS platforms. Are you building such a program or can you recommend something with SBS already integrated?

Probably would have been a good idea if you put a tracker on a number or a website so you could see what your traffic was doing.

I got dragged into an income stream kicking and screaming. I started to sell some geolocal domains I had and it morphed into taking care of three sites for a monthly fee. (I could have 20 if I actually knew what I was doing.) The demand is huge. I'm not all that techy so I'm having to play catch up. Wordpress, QR codes, coupons, Facebook Fan pages, I Frames, daily restaurant specials, imbedded video. The list goes on and on. Don't tell me its easy to outsource everything. You have to go through about ten people to find one that will do what you ask and actually knows how. I'm dancing as fast as I can.

I think there are some legit people like Quentin and a few others who are serious mobile marketers..., but most people were posting about mobile marketing just to sell reports after seeing scotth's huge thread, that just my opinion. You will see alot of them come back to the offline forum because the mobile forum wasnt a big enough market by itself (For their purpose)... There are some guys doing it successfully here I know for a fact though.
