Yikes! A locksmith client! Any tips?

So, like many of you, I've avoided the locksmith industry because of Google's heavy handed restrictions caused by so many scams; however, a potential client really wants me to solve his ranking problems in Google Places. I want to help.

Can any of you offer any advice on this market? Has anyone had success with ranking a locksmith in GP? Clearly, some locksmiths rank because there are visible listings. I'm an experienced and pretty successful consultant in other offline markets, but this one is new to me because I've intentionally avoided it. Thanks for the help.

Regards,
Dino

Not sure about google places but this would lend its self nicely to the mobile site market i.e. keys locked in car.

I just checked my area and plenty of locksmiths in places.

    Exactly Matt.

If I need a locksmith, I am probably locked outside my house pulling my hair out because my favourite soap is on or I can see through the letterbox that the cat has just jumped into the dishwasher.

Offer him a mobile website that is optimised for mobile search, so a user can just tap the screen that would take them straight through to him.

As far as I know, Locksmiths isn't any different in terms of how to rank in GP but I could be wrong on that.

Locksmiths are the first customers I am going after for mobile! In my city, they get the most mobile searches behind bars and dentists.

Just wondering if locksmiths or carpenters install locks on new/renovated construction??

If locksmiths, it might be more beneficial to the client to get them coupled to a general contractor.

As far as GP goes---I didn't realize there's restrictions placed on locksmiths. Can you elaborate? What are they and why are they in place?

Also - you may have noticed that now google PPC has a telephone number you can call for support! Live humans!

Maybe you can discuss the concern over their restrictions.

I agree this is a great mobile market!

When you hear someone telling you what YOU can't do, they are usually talking about what THEY can't do.

Oh how funny - I understood why locksmiths would get a lot of mobile searches behind bars (i.e. in the back parking lot of a bar, because they lost their car/house keys) but I could not figure out why locksmiths would get a lot of calls from behind the dentist's office. (Laughing gas made them lose their keys?)
