This place is about making money right?

Okay well I want to offer you the chance to make some.

My friend is looking for ideas to bring customers into his wall decor retail store via telemarketing to the surrounding residents and promoting a sale.

I think a better way could be to build a facebook page and promote it personally, and I'd like to test that theory on my own a bit... Anybody want a $50 job building a quick facebook page? Can I see some examples of your work?

Also I think if he is going to do telemarketing it should be b2b and get other businesses promoting his store to their customers... playing with some ideas.

Anybody have anymore ideas?

In fact I want to put up a contest right now.

On April the 1st I will announce a winner.

Whoever comes up with the best idea for my friend to blow up his retail store with customers gets $100 bucks on April the 1st plus a free TMF Gold Membership!

Second place winner will recieve $50 cash, and a free TMF Gold Membership

3rd Place Will recieve A Free TMF Gold Membership.

Remember this is a small indy retail store thats in the red.

My friend will pick the winner by implementing their plan.

Lets make it more interesting your plan has to be something that can be implemented successfully with $1000 cost or less.

There are ways to create a quick spike in like a weeks time... lets find one. Heck you might even end up with a client out of it!

Update:

Also want to pay $100 bucks to the best idea to increase sales in his ebay store, and you may earn a client in the process! This is seperate from the retail store idea!

Here's the link to see the current store: Wallpaper at a Glance items - Get great deals on SUNWORTHY, KATZENBACH WARREN items on eBay Stores!

Note: Please submit ideas that you really think will work on their own merit and arent just a set up to pitch him something.
If your idea works you should naturally get a consulting client out of this.

We are all marketers here... how would you create a quick spike in retail sales utilizing internet marketing or telemarketing?

CLICK HERE If you have an idea you would like to submit please post it here to enter contest, also please post any facebook work examples if you are interested in that little gig!

BTW Guys and Gals this truly isnt my client...just a friend.. Im just trying to create some opportunity here. If he likes your idea, and you win the contest, maybe he will be YOUR client!

Can you give me an example of exactly what kind of store he has? I don't need his website, but how about a competitor in a different city?

I'll post here and also the other site.

This is just something off the top of my head. I could come up with more if I had more time and more specifics.

Since he's working on a limited budget, I think the best thing that he can you is approach this from several fronts at once.

I would have him choose a day for an event. It would be held at the store, and it would be something very family-friendly – food, face painting for the kids, prizes for drawings, etc. Call it a Customer Appreciation Day, Family Fun Day, whatever - but the goal is going to be to get new customers.

The grand prize for the day is going to be a free décor package ( which can be determined by the budget of store owner) – but with a twist: if the person that wins the grand prize was referred by a local business, then that local business also receives a free décor package. (Call it a Two-For-One giveaway, or something catchier.) Edited to add: Make it a "must be present to win" drawing.

The telemarketers are going to call with the intent of getting the business to agree to hand out flyers/do whatever other promotion they can do, like email their lists, etc. promoting this event and the drawing. They will also be able to contribute some prize for one of the other drawings if they want.

The store owner is also going to want to promote the event on every local website that they possibly can, plus Twitter, FB, etc.

There also needs to be a series of press releases that are sent out – both to promote the contest, and to promote the family-friendly event.

Also send out press releases to announce the winner and to let everyone know what a fun event it was, etc.

In order to keep costs down and also to help more businesses participate in this joint venture, I would have the telemarketers contact all of the local food places that are owned by mom-and-pop proprietors and offer to hand out food samples at the event in order to help promote their businesses in exchange for handing out flyers to promote the event. You can also contact the local grocery stores and see if they would like to donate chips, sodas, bottles of water, etc.

You could also contact the local moms groups and let them know about the event and see if they would like to promote it to their group members. There is a good chance that some of the group members are work-at-home moms that may also have some type of mailing list or customer list that they could promote the event to.

What is in it for the business owners?

Aside from the fact that they can win the décor package if someone that they have promoted the drawing to wins, I would have everyone that helps promote the event to be listed on the décor company's website and also have them mentioned in any press releases that are sent to the media. (Free advertising for the businesses that help promote the event). Also mention them on FaceBook, Twitter, etc.

I would have special mentions and possibly even small ads placed on the site for any of the food businesses that will be there handing out samples.

Of course, the entries that he gets will be building his mailing list. Even if he does not see a huge amount of sales that particular day, he will be building future business. It also gets his business name out there, so people can come to him in the future.

(I'll add to this as I think of more ideas.)

Hey John! Long time no talk man.

Your friend should go about it two ways - both involve direct mail.

    A) He should get a list of people in his local area who subscribe to high end home decor magazines like Architectural Digest (doesn't sound like it, but the magazine has a lot of interior stuff in it). He should start high end because it's much more likely that his per transaction profits will go up substantially by dealing with people who make 70k - 120k a year and want to spend it on their homes... Then move onto more main stream Home & Garden magazine, World of Interiors, etc.

Send out direct mail pieces touting the "high-endness" of some of his products. Maybe it's a $4k painting or a $2500 massage chair made of Corinthian leather.... the more expensive the better. (If anyone's going to buy this high end stuff it's going to be these people... but even if they don't buy it, simply having something that expensive in the store will make them curious enough to come see what else is there.)

    B) Now your friend is going to want to do some small joint ventures with other local businesses. Chiropractors, Cosmetic surgeons/dentist, etc. are ideal (and where he should start) but plumbers, hardware stores, HVAC, and grocery stores will also work.

You'll probably want to work out a percentage of sales or a small per piece mailed deal to get their mailing lists.

Once those people have agreed to let you use their mailing list (they should if you're friend is reputable - it's all profit for the list owner) you're going to send out an ENDORSED mailer.

The chiropractor is going to send out a letter talking about the beautiful _____ they got at your store, or the quality and uniqueness of the items in the store.... something like that. Something saying they really like the Decor store and that highly recommend their clients go see for themselves.

Do the same for cosmetic dentist, the grocery store, everyone. Endorsed mailer explaining how much they like the store and that they recommend everyone go check it out.

That's the strategy I think he should go with John. Position the store (or atleast some of the items in the store) as high end, go after people who like expensive things and like to brag about the expensive stuff they have....

Your friend will need less customers and will make more money. Shouldn't be to hard to recoup any expenses he spent on mailers with the profit margins from the big ticket items that get sold.

    -James
    ++++++++++++++++++++

    Bonus idea:
Start a Facebook CPM campaign targeting local people of a certain demographic and/or "Like" things such as "Williams Sonoma" or the local country club or the local golf course.

Once you have it set up to be seen by the biggest spenders/ most affluent people around ... start an ad that says something like "The Most Expensive _____ In Town" or "The Only Place Around with a $xx,xxx ______"

Again the idea here is to capture the attention of people who like status and own status symbols.

    Nice one Trekki Girl,

Once I saw a girl win one of Jason Moffats Idea contests by the sheer volume of ideas she submitted. But lets max it at say 3, so alot of people participate.

The law of probability says the more you submit the bigger chance you have at at least one of the four prizes!!!

This is cool. The back end benefit is that you get a client maybe, and when the idea works and he succeeds with your plan you get social proof. So its worth alot more than just 100 bucks.

Ultimately my goal is to show my friend how brilliant you people here online are and Get him to learn how to come to places like this and participate. I want to come up with just a freekin BRILLIANT out of the box idea that will ABC work!

    Great stuff so far.

Run an advertorial for the store owner reaching out into the community to benefit some local heroes...firefighters, police officers, war heroes...pick a date where the public can come by and have their kids meet real heroes. Give a percentage of proceeds during a certain period of time to a family in need. FYI...soldier 22 years old just came home a double amputee....married one child and one on the way. I'm sure he's in papers. a true hero.

      Hi John,

I'll post here and in the TeleMarketing Forum:

To bring more customers into his wall decor retail store, I would recommend a 3 Pillar Approach broken down along these lines:

      - Publicity and PR

      - Business To Business

      - End Buyers / Users Engagement and Interaction

      Spring Walls Makeover PR Campaign

      - Offer to redo the walls of a public institution like a Children's hospital or home for the aged.
That's the local area publicity angle right there, Send out Press Releases about it and invite the Press on the actual day that you are actually installing the new wall paper.

      - Invite the local Chamber of Commerce or other Charity to match your efforts by sponsoring another room or the walls makeover for another public institution

Also ask the Chamber of Commerce and the Charity to send out a letter to their members offering them a discount on their wall décor makeover, where a part of their purchase will be donated to keep the Spring Wall Makeover Campaign alive

      Business To Business

Have the telemarketers contact other businesses such as hardware stores and interior decorators who will have customers with interest in wall decor to do this JV campaign-
Do a JV with other Local Business owners in the form of a small booklet of coupons, which will all have specials and sales- every participating business will contribute to the cost of producing the coupon flier and they will also participate in distribution.

As the organizer of the coupon booklet, your friend can put his ads in 2 prime locations in the booklet.
      -
      - End Buyers / Users Engagement and Interaction

The wall décor owner needs to leverage his existing customer base to tap into his customer's network of Influence.

Start a Spring Makeover Master contest- by contacting his past customers by phone, email and letter. Tell them to send in their before and after photos of their Wall Makeovers and a short story behind what inspired the change.

A Facebook Page can be set up just to showcase the contest.

The contest winners will be announced at a Customer Appreciation light luncheon- where the submitted entries will also on display. Past customers will be incentivized to bring a friend by qualifying for special on location giveaways of hampers and wall makeover consultations.

A youtube channel can also be set up to feature the before and after wall makeover pictures of customers and also to give actual live demos of wall décor makeovers best practices and tips.

Add A Mobile SMS Text component so that he can build a database of customer mobile numbers. The sms and short code can be added to the receipts that the customers receive and also to instore signage.

That way he can do surveys and offer sales exclusively to his mobile list.
Also showcase the number to text to to optin on his Facebook Fan Page.

      Stay Sunny,

      Michelle

        John,

I think us warriors should continue more ideas for you because it will inspire more offliners to get out and help promote their cliente in the same way to get and keep new and old clients in the process!

Another idea that is exploding in my marketing area, Phoenix/Scottsdale Arizona, is street corner sign spinners. Get a high schooler or someone you can hire cheaply for several hours to hold and move around a sign attracting people on the street to a client's store with a discount or creative promotion printed on the sign. You can get a 2' x 5' foamcore plastic made real cheap at a sign/banner store.

The client saves on not having to pay thousands for a sign and sign permit, and gets to put out the sign spinner only on high traffic hours. It seems to be working because I see it with many different industries around town. Tax accounts are doing it, cleaners, Subway franchises, Pizza restaurants, bowling alleys, pet stores, car dealers, fitness centers and barber shops.

This could work in tandem with other methods already mentioned.

I'm not interested in the prizes Just want to chime in with more ideas....

        Good luck,

        Bruce
