Cant get my client on Google Place that only has 3 other entries

Morning all,

Hoping that somone out there can cure my frustration.

I have been trying to get a friends (who is also a client) Google Places listing listed.

There are only 3 listings on Page 1 of Google.

I have included the keyword in the company name and the keyword is also one of the categories. I have added pictures and a video too.

The listing was verified by PIN over 2 weeks ago and it still does not show up at all - not even in the "More results" section in which there are another 7 companies only. NONE of the 10 companies have the keyword in the company title.

Any ideas please?? I will love you forever if you can suggest something that works!!

Cheers

Jon

I know it just takes some time to show up.

Does the listing still exist under yours or his google places account?

Are there only 3 google places listings in total?

When you're checking on google are you viewing the results for 'everything' or just 'google places'?

            Hi Jon

Have you checked each of the 10 google places listings to make sure yours is better optimised for citations, keywords, images, videos etc?

Sounds like google is just showing a 3 pack so your listing needs to be better optimised than the top 3...is the there only 1 page of google places listings?

            What optimisation have you completed?

Sorry for all the questions but it'll be easier to help if I know whats what ;-)

            Cheers

            Neil

            • Adding keyword to company name in Google Places is a major violation that could get your client rejected or suspended PLUS it could interfere with his existing citations.

Are the 3 listings the new large merged listings or the old style small 2 line Places listings???

If it's the new merged style listings then the ranking is largely about on-site and traditional SEO.

If it's the old style Place listings that are showing up then # of reviews and citations plays a bigger part.

Have you seen a 3-pack with merged listings? It would be great if I could see an example, but I am sure Google can do that.

@Jon, if you put the keyword in the business name it will have temporary effect, and there is extremely high possibility of your business getting suspended. If there are only 3 businesses on page 1 it means the competition for this keyword is rather weak, so you could easily be one of these 3 businesses, but if you want really fast results - you definitely need reviews. There are some great techniques how to get reviews from clients over the internet (unfortunately, I am a new member and I cannot post links).

      Jon,

For Google Local, they want to see company name, address and phone number...in that order.

Ideally the business name should be in the domain name too.

At the bottom of the page, name all the nearby suburbs as well.

All links going in should also have the business name, address and phone number in that order as well.

You gotta get them all matching up.

Here's an example of a site that's got it right http://wetmountaincomputer.com/

      Best,
      Ewen

It will usually take longer than 2 weeks so chill.

Make sure all feilds are filled in including video
        and pics.

Make sure it's linked with your other google
        accounts including analytics, youtube, adwords
        (if using).

Don't keyword stuff. Bookmark the page a few
        times.

Get real reviews and star ratings whenever
        possible.

To make a major difference not only in how high it's right but how fast it gets up there. If there aren't any ask your friend/client to hit his customers up for testimonials and reviews and to send directly to where he wants the reviews to go. If you think so have a problem with this he can always offer a coupon exchange for any reviews. Just make sure he's not asking for good reviews - he can only ask for honest reviews.

Thanks to all for your ideas/thoughts.

All sections are complete, including the areas they cover etc. Citations and reviews are all I can think of as missing. Problem being that the business title for the places listing has the keyword in it which it doesn't in real life if you know what I mean!

I will action the bits you have all mentioned

Thanks again - keep em coming if there are anymore thoughts

            Thanks

When you talk about "At the bottom of the page, name all the nearby suburbs as well." - do you mean on the actual company website?

          Yes on your clients website.

The link I gave to an example website done correctly,
has surrounding suburbs listed at the bottom.

          Check it out to see.

          Best,

Jon, You might try removing the keyword from your title. One of my sites mysteriously went down one day and I couldn't figure out what caused it, but just to see, I removed a word from the title and the next day it was up. Try it and see.
