Building offline client website

The price that I'm charging my offliine client to create their website, does it include the SEO? I understand SEO can be a monthly fee to charge them, but when just starting out building their website does on page & off page SEO come along with the price that I would charge to build the site?

Thanks!

      Hi Octobergal,

You charge what the market will bear. When building their site you must
do some on-page seo. If they don't get visitors, they will be unhappy.
      Remember your previous post.

If you do off-page seo, you can charge them a monthly fee.

If you read a lot of the Offline posts here in the WF, you will soon learn
more than enough to get you going.

Well what they understand is SEO and what you know it is could be couple things; so check that first. I would demonstrate SEO in the first five pages or basically your startup site, and then make sure they understand what the SEO does for them over a period of time and charge monthly for that service - or wrap it up in a all around package. But make sure they know what it does for them month to month and over the course of a year.

      What Grin says exactly.

Just spoke to a client and said "have you had any SEO done?"

      "Yeah, we've had loads done".

By this they meant they regularly shove 150 keywords into the meta tag.

Yeah or it goes the opposite direction and when they ask if you do SEO it means redesign their site, add them to every social site possible, rework the code in their site, add email lists, reinvent fire and build a plan for the next great skyscraper - "Simple enough to do for $250 right?". Might as well tell them you charge $1000 for each letter they use in an acronym.

I never include SEO in a web design project. The two are completely separate products.

I always tell them the site is designed with SEO in mind and has on page optimization for the initial keywords, but true SEO is not set-it-and-forget-it, so if they want to SEO there new site, they can buy one of my SEO packages.

    Hope that helps.

I include on page SEO as part of the initial website design cost, adding value. But when it comes to the real offline seo stuff I would definitely charge a monthly fee.

Just make sure your client understands whats involved and how it will benefit them (more clients etc.)
