How many backlinks can a VA create in 1 hour?

I know this is vague, but I am starting to have my VA create some backlinks for some websites. In the past I have used backlinking services from WF in which I didnt care how long it took. But now I am paying someone by the hour. Obviously they will try to low ball if I dont set some criteria of how many links per hour (roughly).

I am giving my VA a specific set of criteria for the backlinks, but nothing too out of the ordinary in regards to white hat links. The only thing that might be out of the ordinary is that I state the website the link is coming from should be at least vaguely related to my clients website.

I am just hoping to get some feedback and examples from fellow WF'ers who pay their VA's to create backlinks.

Thanks
GabeW

This is something I would like to know too, having just paid $60 for a VA on oDesk to do 100 backlinks. She did a great job but I don't think this was cost effective?
Be interesting to hear what other warriors think.

A few weeks back I used someone from Odesk...I paid $22.50 for 14 links. $1.60 a link...and you paid $1.66. So about the same.

But with pressure could they have done it for $1.25 a link? I really have no idea how to gauge this...

This is actually pretty reasonable, as that works out to only 60 cents per link - if she did a great job, I'd highly recommend you hang on to her!

Did you just post a job for 100 backlinks on odesk, and presumably picked her because she was one of the cheaper providers?

This was the third one I have hired at oDesk. She is from the Phillipines, she was not the cheapest and not the dearest, I picked her because of her good feedback score.
Given that we need to build links constantly to stay on top of the serps, at this cost/price per link it would not be profitale for me.

If the backlinks are human created.. anything between 6-12 an hour is very acceptable range.
Wht you pay? it depends on a lot of factors...anywhere between 2 dollars per hour to 60 dollars per hour...sorry I cannot narrow down there unless I get more info...

    hope that helps

Thanks paintbrush4u...I think myself and zoro were most interested in what an acceptable rate of creating backlinks per hour should be, not so much the rate...so thanks for your insights.

It would definitely depend on the types of backlinks he/she is creating. From your post I get the sense that it might be manual blog commenting. If that's the case I wouldn't expect too many links because the VA will need to create content in order for the link to stick. I think 15-20 would be about average.

You can find a guy and give him 5 euro/100 links but not this is the problem.
You need to ask for good links, dofollow from good sites and for this i really don't know how much to pay

Yeah and you don't even know what you're saying LOL. Your perception of a good site, is exactly that, a perception.

You need links that aren't overly saturated, that stick, that get indexed...nofollow/dofollow doesn't matter honestly. If you're doing blog comments anyway, there is no PR left on the page to give to it doesn't matter.

you can make however much of your business on auto pilot as you like. You can outsource web design, backlinks, video creation, social bookmarks, content creation, and hire a project manager to handle all your outsourcers!

Wow, yeah this is kind of amazing to me really.

Because normally everyone wants this IM work to be so cheap (which is justified because so much of this work is needed to see results and make decent money!) that I never consider doing such work for others.

But at $1.60 per link... geesh even I would be tempted to consider doing some quality backlink building for other people.

I'm thinking 20 links would be $32. I would take $10 and hire someone on Fiverr to locate 20 quality active (recently updated) sites / blogs I can contribute a comment to (which is what I occasionally do for my own marketing work - pay $5 for someone to locate 10 such sites)... that leaves $22 for me to just go to each of the sites, read an article and leave a quality comment. Shouldn't take more than 90 minutes to read their content and write 20 good quality comments.

So I'd be looking at $14.66 per hour for some easy / fun work which, of course, is simply not quite worth the time unless I have a real interest in the subject. But if I could get it up to $20 per hour I'd actually consider doing it. May check into this. Thanks for your post!

Here's what I always do before I hear a VA...

Whatever task I'm giving them, I do it. Then I tack on about 15-20% "extra time" since I'm kinda fast on the PC/web. Then that's my expectation.

So for you, if you can do 30 links in an hour, then expect 20 from them in an hour. If they end up doing 10-15...

    hi,
i hav been wondering around in odesk and done quite some assignment there...
from my experience, it is much better that you set the fixed price job.
how you gonna do so, estimate yourself the fastest you can get 1 quality backlink, then add up the total time you need for the total amount of links to be planted.

lets say you can pay around $3-4 per hour x total hours needed, you can get a rough fixed price budget.

write up a very detail job posting and stated sth like this at last line: pls kindly included "link building" in your cover letter, else will not be entertained.

see hows the reaction, if the reaction is overwhelming, means that you still have space to lower down the budget, if not, either slightly increase your budget and see hows the reaction or just find the good feedback one and stick with him or her.

after some small trials, eventually you will find some really cool and skilled people with very nice price.

thanks and thats my personal opinion.
    hopes that help.

p/s do not pay 50% or more as advance payment.

Guys I highly recommend buying John Jonas Replace Myself program (now I'm not going to put in any links as I don't want to appear affiliated with him in any way). I pay my guy $300 a month to work 40hours a week he will send me a daily email of what he has done and any WSO I find useful I can just send onto him and I can just interact with him through Jing. Also I highly recommend using people from the Philippines as there work ethic is better than any other country.

some interesting point here guys, thanks. I definitely agree that before you hire anyone to do a job you know exactly how to do it yourself, otherwise it's just not possible to guage. The question i have though is would it be cheaper to hire someone fulltime, to do the same job.

It's one thing to say 12 backlings per hour = 1 link every 5 minutes, but is it fair to assume that your full time VA is going to be able to keep this pace day in day out. If not, then does it make sense to hire someone full time.

It depends on what type of backlinks and how much quality. For me to create backlinks of high quality using blogs or other methods I am only able to do about 10 an hour or less.

Why not hire people on a flat fee instead of an hourly rate. That way it doesn't matter how long it takes them - you only pay for the work completed, not the time it takes?

I do that with my VA and it works well. I know what my weekly cost are going to be and she works as fast (or slow) as she wants.

I think I would pay a flate rate per link. I know only too well that it sometimes takes a long time just to get one backlink due to whether you have register on a site and how much you have to write. Paying someone for each one is defintely more cost-effective, in my opinion.

When looking for a Odesk contractors i dont think it s beneficial to post jobs. Your inbox judt gets filled up with everyone and their mother and you have to check all their profiles anyway. Just do a search an pick good criteria. The criteria i use is > than 1,0000 hours, English levell 4 or 5 stars, feedback 4.5-5.0 stars.

THE Most important thing you should look for is someone with a fair number of jobs that have cost $1,000 plus and 500 hours plus. Its real easy to find someone with 50+ good feedbacks for $5-25 jobs, but a true measure of satisfaction is how long someone employed them and how much they paid them.

When i started using that as my most important criteria, i started getting much better help.

This is a loaded question. We have a number of clients in the sports and entertainment celebrity space. What this means is a number of them are in highly competitive keyword space. The real question is how many QUALITY links can they build. The other question is are they manually developed or using software to boost their productivity.

We use software and a standardized process. The average number of links that our team is building is about 80 per day. An 8 hour day is about 10 per hour. But, everyone of them are quality links.

Having read through some of the posts, I think I would just stick to paying people based on the number of links they create. On the other had, if your operation is growing and getting allot of business, then I might consider hiring a FT outsourcer from 123emplowee and I think that a FT back-linker would be around $6 to $7.50 per hour depending on how many hours per week/month you need them for. If 40 hours per week, then the price is close to $6 per hour. If 20 hours per week or less, then its closer to $7+ per hour. If you are paying more than $7.50 per hour, then I would say that's too much.
