Local Domain Name Question

I have a hybrid online/offline business, but most of the web work and seo is outsourced. Actually, all of it is.

I'm thinking of shedding some dead weight and becoming more active rather than delegating so much.

Unfortunately, the "fun" of outsourcing has left me a bit clueless on Google and how it ranks sites.

So here is the question in a nutshell....

If I want to create sites for local businesses, in a certain niche, and rank them 1st page, and flip them or rent them.....

If I bought the domain DenverRoofContractors.com, and "Denver Roof Contractors" gets like 800 monthly searches.......

And I put up either a little wordpress page, or a squeeze page telling people "fill your info" or "call this #" for info on best contractor rates...

and if someone googled "Denver Roof Contractors".....

Would my domain DenverRoofContractors.com come up on the first page since it is an exact domain match to the keyword typed in?

I asked my web design guy this same question and he gave me a very detailed explanation about google places and sub-domains and a bunch of other stuff. It seemed to make sense but sometimes I think he intentionally confuses me so I'll keep paying him lol.

I'm looking to have it explained in terms I can understand, for someone like me who has outsourced, but never built a site or done seo himself.

Do share for those who are hands-on.

THANKS!

      Hey Jeremy,

Try looking at a few WSO or searching more on the forum. You should find plenty of information to start taking action yourself!

I have a good setup now but if my Seo and web design guy ever quit I would have a business but no idea how to work in it.

That's why I want to be more hands-on.

I can't really break it down for you, but I can chime in that the answer is "not necessarily". Exact name domain matching helps, but does not guarantee rank. ANY explanation of SE rankings is theoretical anyway, since noone on this board has access to the algorithm. Except for Matt Cutts who lurks here I'm sure.

Just buying the domain name "DenverRoofContractors.com" would not take you to Page 1 for the respective keyword. You would need to optimize it, but you would definitely have the advantage of the keywords being mentioned in the domain name. That is very important, especially for local search.

Just because you have the exact domain match does not mean when you search that keyword your name will emerge first on google. What you need to do is just to get some backlinks and the exact domain search will be yours.

But if you through up some keyword rich content, wouldn't it just float around the 1st page?

Just seems weird that if someone typed in "Denver Roofing Contractor" that something like "MikesRoofing.com would come up over "DenverRoofingContractor.com

But I guess I may need to try it on my own, because I want to do this outside of my web guy.

I just know websites are a popular offline method of business so was hoping someone with experience could shed light.

Have the exact domain name match used to be a great way to AT LEAST get started toward being on the first page. We own over 400 sites with exact domain name matches. But, the additional steps you'll need include optimizing your sites header, description tags, etc. and then build off site links back to those domains.

We market a number of products, including celebrity brand products, but the local ones should be easier because the volumes / competition are a lot lower.

By the way, with the recent Google algorithm changes, you'll need to make sure that the back links come from high quality sites.

From davechan: "the additional steps you'll need include optimizing your sites header, description tags, etc. and then build off site links back to those domains."

And that's the name of that tune.

That is still a pretty competitive search term. I usually choose a search term that only has around 0-10 competing sites for phrase match. This guarantees when I create a 1 page wordpress site for a client, they get on the first page in less than 24-48 hours!

I wrote a few quick tips on Local Keyword research here: http://offlinerockstaracademy.com/go...-search-guide/

I also included a list of Google Suggestion Tools that are up to 50% off and range from $7 to $22 that are MUST have tools if you want to dominate Google Local Searches!

How can you tell how many competing sites?

Can you give a quick step by step from domain name selection all the way to final google ranking?

I do plan on making a video with step by steps on this since I really hate typing

But go to Google Local Search Guide – Searching for Local Keywords | Offline RockStar Academy and watch the video that I posted there where they go through the steps on using their $7 tools that rock! It gives you the steps that you could use even without the tools.

But to find out how competitive the search term is just use quotation marks "search term".

So for "Denver Roof Contractors" there are About 4,490 results and without quotes the whole page is dominated by Google Maps. I wouldnt use that search term myself.

I did a quick search using keyword Ninja and came up with "denver roofing contractors reviews" which still has 7 Google Places showing up but only 10 organic search listings. I usually can create a wordpress 1 page site and 1 video and have my site on the first page of Google in 24-48 hours and the video showing up in 2 spots on the first page as well!

This was just a quick search and I would look a little further before choosing my main keywords to target. But that would still be in my list ;-)

Listen to me mate, domain name is 50% off seo, try it this way , make subdomain it will look like this: keyword.yoursite.com and then you will have the keyword in the url and spend no money. And after of course google will se your subdomain as a differet website. So you need to make seo all over again. And if it's good seo, and have the keyword there, then you will reach top 10 maybe 5 depends on the competition. Good luck, hope my post helps

I dont even bother with google places most of the time with my clients. I go after the search phrases that usually dont even have google places popping up or sometimes they just have 1 or 2 at most.

is your offline rockstar academy all about the business you're talking about (good marketing if it is).

I'd like you to PM me the steps you take with a client from day 1, to the sale.

So..the keyword research, domain purchase, ranking, cold call, pitch, price, sale...

or is this covered in a course you do?

I really do plan to get rid of my seo guy (and maybe web design) but not until I fully understand what they are doing for me, and how they do it!

rockstar, never heard back from you about putting up a tutorial of getting on google 1st page in 24-48 hrs.

I think learning that will ultimately allow me to break free from my web design and seo guy.
