Hey warriors, so my partner and I have found a couple potential clients in the last few days, and they want a website. Short story even shorter, im looking for services I can provide other then a website, google places, yelp, SEO. What do you usually charge your clients, that are smaller start up businesses?
Thanks!

I've come across an app that is similar to Groupon in that biz can deliver deals but has more features in that businesses can send out instantly and however often then want. Deals are delivered via SMS, email and Social Media as well as deal networks. You can PM me if interested.

    Hi there Anthony, congratulations!

I think it is important when you are first starting out to get those first few clients under your belt so you may not charge quite as much as. Once you get rolling, you can raise your prices more.

However, you must be careful that the people you are dealing with are real business people and wont just lowball you, make you do a lot of work for peanuts, and then give up before seeing results.

I've seen this over and over again. Now if it is a startup and they have their ducks in a row and they have a source of financing, you can give them a fair deal. By FAIR deal I don't mean "fair" to them and a ripoff for you.

So, starting out here...you must manage expectations.

    1) Investing in a business costs money. All advertising costs money. Its funny people will pay hundreds or even thousands per month for yellow page or print ads, and then will try to keep their "web marketing guy" under $150.

    2) No advertising works overnight. It takes time and commitment from the business owner to get their message out and build a clientele. The thing you can stress is that old school print advertising takes months to see a return while new social media happens much more quickly and the ROI is much higher.

What you want to avoid, at all costs, is charging them so little that you feel it isn't even worth it. You will lose the desire to work for them at all. The funny thing is, when you charge people too little they see you as "expendable" and will most certainly decide to stop buying service from you.

When people are willing to pay a premium for your good service, you know they are committed to advertising their business and wont just stop paying you.

Some industries have profits lower than others so price accordingly. But I have found that even in low-profit industries, you can find a way to tailor a package that is usable for them, at a price you feel good about.

It is better to walk away from a deal than charge too little.

I agree with Daniels suggestions. You should also take a note of another very interesting thread on this forum which discusses exactly this topic. I am sure you will find it if you try searching with a few relevant keywords (like google places charge, etc).

Good luck and congrats on your first few catches. Thats how we all start.

You could add a mobile website to the mix. Analytics, videos, powerpoints, pdf, posts and so much more.

As for what to charge you need to work out what it is worth to you and don't undercharge.
